The retirement covers Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. A game that will not launch or play offline is a different problem and needs platform-specific troubleshooting.
Are FIFA 21 servers still up?
No. EA’s official Service Updates lists FIFA 21 online services as retired on November 6, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. That means FIFA 21 online modes and EA sign-in features that depend on those services are no longer available; waiting for an outage to clear or changing your home network will not bring them back.

EA’s live server-status page is intended for games and services it currently lists, but FIFA 21 does not appear in the captured list. It therefore cannot be used to check whether FIFA 21 is experiencing a current outage.
Why can’t FIFA 21 connect to EA servers?
The most likely explanation, if the failure is in an online mode or EA login, is that FIFA 21’s online service has been retired. EA says its general rationale for retiring older services is that they typically have fewer than 1% of peak online players across all EA titles; that figure is not a FIFA 21 player statistic.

EA’s shutdown notice also says some games may remain playable offline after online services end. That is general guidance, not confirmation that a particular FIFA 21 mode works offline on every platform. The available official information does not establish offline availability mode by mode.
What to do when FIFA 21 is not working
If an online mode or EA login fails
Because FIFA 21’s online services have ended, there is no network setting or troubleshooting step that can restore them. EA’s generic connection guide advises checking service status and platform or account conditions, but those checks cannot reverse the retirement.

If the game will not launch
- Check that FIFA 21 is installed on the platform where you own or access it, and note any error message shown.
- Check for platform or account issues through the support service for your console or PC storefront. EA’s connection troubleshooting guide also points to platform- and account-related checks.
- If the problem persists, use the platform’s support steps for the exact error and device. The service retirement alone does not explain a general launch failure.
If an offline mode fails
First identify the platform, mode, and point at which the error occurs: before the game opens, during an account prompt, or after choosing a mode. The retirement notice does not determine whether that specific offline mode should work, so troubleshoot the installation and platform state rather than assuming all offline play is disabled or guaranteed.
If another EA game also has connection problems
For a different EA title that still has online services, check the EA server-status page and the relevant platform’s service status. EA’s general guide also suggests restarting the router and notes that an unreliable DNS service can cause connection problems. These steps may help with other supported games, but they will not restore FIFA 21’s retired online features.
