Instead, during setup, players can define their Inquisitor and select a few key choices from Dragon Age: Inquisition. The change accompanies a shift to Northern Thedas, where the story follows Rook and a new group of companions.
What Dragon Age Keep did
Dragon Age Keep let players customize a history of Thedas based on choices made across the series. BioWare described it as a way to “customize a Dragon Age historical world state to your exact specifications.” That reconstructed history could then shape the world state used by a later game.
The system addressed the complexity of carrying decisions through branching stories. In a 2013 example about importing an Origins history into Dragon Age II, BioWare described “something in the order of 600 different data points.” That was a historical illustration of one import scenario—not a count of choices in The Veilguard.
How The Veilguard handles past choices
EA says The Veilguard does not directly import earlier saves or integrate with Dragon Age Keep. During character setup, players can establish their Inquisitor and choose a few important decisions from Inquisition. This is a limited in-game selection, not a replacement Keep import of a larger world state.

No verified figure establishes how many earlier decisions or references carry into The Veilguard. The available description supports “a few key” Inquisition choices, but not a percentage or an exact total.
Why the story moves north
The Veilguard takes place in Northern Thedas. EA’s launch guide names locations including Treviso and the Hossberg Wetlands, while the game’s director has described the setting as a region with places players have not visited before. The earlier games’ different regional focus helps explain why this story’s callbacks are selective, but the developers have not presented geography as the sole reason for every continuity decision.

What takes the foreground instead
The current story centers on Rook and seven companions: Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash. EA’s launch guide says companion and faction stories can affect later parts of the game. That puts relationships, factions and choices within The Veilguard itself at the center of its stakes; the smaller set of imported decisions does not mean older continuity has no effect at all.

With fewer carried-over decisions specified, the scope for older choices to shape this entry may be narrower than a full world-state reconstruction would allow. The exact number of returning decisions and resulting references is not established, so it would be misleading to quantify the difference.
