Using a practical definition—an attack whose path can be changed after launch or is explicitly described as homing—only one technique is clearly documented: Piccolo’s unnamed blast at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. The Special Beam Cannon, Destructo Disc and several other famous attacks are important comparisons, but the available official descriptions do not establish them as guided in the same sense.
The direct answer: one technique has an explicit homing feat
The strongest clearly documented guided technique in Dragon Ball is Piccolo’s unnamed tournament-era blast from the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. In the official Dragon Ball feature [Namek Editorial] The Techniques of Great Demon King Piccolo & Piccolo!, published June 17, 2021, the attack is described as a powerful ki blast whose trajectory Piccolo controlled in mid-flight to home in on Goku.

That is unusually strong evidence for this category because it covers the defining action rather than merely showing accurate aim. Piccolo did not simply point at Goku before firing. The official description says he altered the projectile’s course after launch. It is therefore the clearest answer to searches for Dragon Ball homing attacks.
However, calling it “number one of ten” would imply that nine other techniques have been verified on comparable evidence. They have not. Dragon Ball has many attacks that are precise, penetrating, curved, split into multiple projectiles or difficult to evade, but those properties are not automatically post-launch guidance. The ranking below is consequently an evidence-based editorial result, not a canonical top-ten list.

How “guided” and “strongest” are defined here
“Guided” is used as a functional description, not as an official Dragon Ball taxonomy. An attack qualifies when the user can alter its path after release, or when an authoritative description explicitly calls it homing. A projectile that is merely aimed well, travels in a straight line or has a wide blast radius does not qualify without an additional guidance feat.
“Strongest” also needs several tests. Raw power alone would favor the character with the highest overall battle power rather than the best guided technique. Each candidate must instead be considered across four axes:
- Demonstrated effect: what the source scene actually shows, without turning dramatic language into a universal power ceiling.
- Guidance and precision: whether the projectile visibly tracks, can be steered, or is only aimed before release.
- Threat against a stronger opponent: whether the technique’s special property lets it challenge an enemy who may be superior in raw power. That advantage belongs to the move’s function, not automatically to the user’s total strength.
- Practicality: charge time, exposure while charging, energy cost and any requirement for an ally or a particular battlefield setup.
The scope is all officially depicted Dragon Ball media, but direct manga and official feature descriptions carry more weight than a licensed game’s cinematic presentation. A game can show how an attack is staged interactively; it cannot, by itself, establish a manga power ranking.
Rank 1: Piccolo’s unnamed 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai homing blast
What is actually identified
The official Namek Editorial feature does not give this attack a separate canon name. It says the blast appeared to be the Explosive Wave, while preserving uncertainty about the identification. That distinction matters: the safest label is Piccolo’s unnamed tournament blast, not “the homing Explosive Wave” as though every Explosive Wave in the franchise automatically tracks its target.
The same feature provides the decisive guidance feat: Piccolo controlled the blast’s trajectory mid-flight to home in on Goku. The official wording is, “he was also able to control its trajectory mid-flight to home in on Goku.” This is a description by the official site, not dialogue attributed to a character or a statement by Akira Toriyama.
Why it ranks first
On the guidance axis, it is the only candidate in the available official material with an explicit post-launch steering description. That makes it more than a highly accurate beam. Piccolo can change the attack’s route while it is already moving, turning an evasive maneuver into a tracking problem.

Its demonstrated effect is also substantial: the source calls it a powerful ki blast and presents it during a major tournament battle. The feat does not establish an infinite range, an unavoidable hit or superiority over every later attack. It does establish a rare combination of force and controllability, which is why it leads this narrowly defined ranking.

Its limits as a comparison
The source does not provide a measurable energy output, speed figure, turning radius, range or confirmed success against every defense. It also does not say that the technique can be redirected repeatedly, pursue a target around obstacles or maintain a lock indefinitely. Those details should not be inferred from the word “home.”
There is a practical uncertainty as well. The attack’s identity is not fully settled, and the feature’s resemblance to Explosive Wave does not prove that the standard Explosive Wave is guided. The feat belongs to this specific tournament portrayal.
Why the Special Beam Cannon is not automatically a guided attack
A focused piercing technique
The Special Beam Cannon, or Makankosappo, is Piccolo’s focused, piercing ki attack. The official Dragon Ball feature describes Piccolo placing two fingers to his forehead, concentrating ki at a single point and releasing a laser-like beam. The official Piccolo technique compendium, published June 21, 2022, likewise describes it as a secret weapon created specifically to defeat Goku, with ki gathered before release through the fingertips.
Those details make it an important benchmark for precision and penetration. They do not, by themselves, make it guided. The documented sequence is charging, aiming and firing. The available descriptions do not say that Piccolo bends the beam after launch or that it homes on a moving target.

The extended charge is not merely visual flair. The official feature says the longer preparation made the technique more useful when Piccolo fought alongside Goku. An ally could occupy or distract the opponent while Piccolo completed the focus. That is a clear setup-cost trade-off: the attack may be devastating when the opening exists, but the user is exposed during preparation.

Under the framework above, the Special Beam Cannon scores highly for demonstrated purpose, precision and threat against a stronger opponent, but it cannot be placed in a guided ranking without a separate steering feat. It is best described as a precision projectile, not a confirmed homing one.
Why the Destructo Disc does not fill a missing ranking slot
The official Dragon Ball feature discussing technique presentations in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO characterizes Krillin’s Destructo Disc as a cutting technique and notes that it was often used in the manga as an advantage against stronger opponents. That is valuable context for the third ranking axis: a special cutting property can threaten an enemy whose overall power exceeds Krillin’s.
The statement is qualitative. It does not provide a universal strength multiplier, guarantee that the disc cuts every opponent or establish that every Destructo Disc can curve and pursue a target. A cutting attack can be dangerous because of its edge and placement without being guided after launch. Unless a particular depiction demonstrates steering or homing, the Destructo Disc remains a notable anti-stronger-opponent technique rather than a verified entry in this list.

Powerful blasts are not necessarily guided
Explosive Wave
The official feature describes Explosive Wave as a focused, explosive release from the arms. That description establishes a concentrated blast, not a tracking system. The tournament feat associated with Piccolo resembles this technique, but the source deliberately leaves the exact identity uncertain. It would be an error to generalize one unusual portrayal into a rule that all Explosive Waves can steer in flight.
Demon Ray of Obliteration
Great Demon King Piccolo’s Demon Ray of Obliteration is described as a deadly blast released after gathering ki. Its destructive presentation makes it relevant when discussing power, but the available official description does not identify mid-flight control. Gathering energy and releasing a lethal projectile are separate properties from guidance.
This distinction prevents a common ranking mistake: treating every named attack with a dramatic effect as a guided technique. A move can be stronger in raw destructive force and still be less useful against a mobile target than a weaker attack that can change course.

What the game presentation can—and cannot—prove
The official Dragon Ball site has also discussed technique presentations in the licensed fighting game DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, including the Special Beam Cannon and Destructo Disc. The game is a useful way to see franchise attacks represented interactively, particularly for players who want to compare animations, targeting behavior and controls.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Game mechanics remain a separate evidentiary category. A lock-on system, an animation that curves for readability or a damage value selected for balance does not rewrite manga continuity. The game’s depiction can illustrate how a move is presented to a player; it cannot prove that the move occupies a specific place in a canon ranking of guided techniques.
Why a responsible top ten cannot be supplied from the established evidence
A genuine ten-place ranking would require the same basic checks for every candidate: a primary-source scene, a clear indication of post-launch guidance, enough information to compare the effect with other attacks and a stated continuity. The available official material supplies that level of clarity for Piccolo’s unnamed tournament blast, but not for nine additional techniques.
Adding familiar names from memory would create the appearance of completeness while mixing different standards. Some attacks might be guided in an anime-only scene, a film, a game or a side story, while others would be judged from manga panels. Without declaring that continuity and verifying each feat, the resulting order would be speculation rather than a researched ranking.
The strongest useful conclusion is therefore narrower: Piccolo’s unnamed 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai blast is the confirmed leader under the functional definition, while the Special Beam Cannon and Destructo Disc are important near-comparisons whose documented properties concern piercing and cutting rather than confirmed guidance. Explosive Wave and Demon Ray of Obliteration demonstrate focused or deadly power, but the cited official descriptions do not establish tracking.

A checklist for evaluating future Dragon Ball homing attacks
- Does the source show the user changing the projectile’s course after release?
- Does an authoritative description explicitly call the attack homing or tracking?
- Is the feat tied to a named technique, or only to one unnamed variation?
- Which continuity supplies the evidence: manga, television anime, film, game or another officially licensed work?
- What target did the technique threaten, and was the result caused by guidance, cutting, piercing or the user’s raw power?
- How long does the attack take to charge, and can the user defend themselves during that time?
Applying those questions keeps “guided,” “accurate,” “powerful” and “dangerous” from becoming interchangeable labels. It also explains why a shorter, source-secure ranking is more useful than an invented list of ten.
