The route triggers are reported by Prima Games and Insider Gaming. Neither source gives a precise number of seconds for the Nappa or Frieza fights.
How to unlock each Piccolo branch
“The Saiyans Attack”: unlock “Vegeta vs. Piccolo”
Play “The Saiyans Attack” and defeat Nappa quickly enough to meet the mission’s time-based condition. In this alternate story, Piccolo survives the encounter that leads to his death in the standard events, and Vegeta becomes his next opponent. Defeating Vegeta sends the story back to the canon Saiyan Arc.
The walkthroughs do not establish a numeric timer or a guaranteed strategy. Check the mission’s displayed objective and replay the node if the alternate branch does not appear.

“Piccolo Returns to His Birthplace”: unlock “A Mentor’s Guidance”
Defeat Frieza within the mission’s time window to open “A Mentor’s Guidance.” In this branch, Frieza recognizes Piccolo’s strength, but Piccolo still struggles against Frieza’s final form before Goku arrives. The story develops Piccolo’s determination to grow stronger rather than replacing the larger course of events.
“Faint Unease”: choose whether to help Goku
At “Faint Unease,” choose “Help out Goku” to intervene against Androids 19 and 20 and continue along the alternate direction. Choose “Continue to observe the battle” to remain on the canon-aligned path.

Later Cell battle: unlock the Sparking Episode
Insider Gaming reports that the alternate arc includes a choice to train Gohan’s mind or body. Later, defeat Cell in the relevant Piccolo battle to unlock a Sparking Episode where Gohan uses what Piccolo taught him in the final clash. The available walkthrough does not establish whether the mind-or-body choice changes this unlock condition or its ending.
“Android 17”: unlock “Pride of a Champion”
In the “Android 17” mission, Piccolo faces Android 17 before Cell interrupts. Defeat every enemy in the encounter, including Cell, to unlock “Pride of a Champion.” In this ending, Piccolo defeats Cell and overpowers Android 17, prompting the Androids to flee.

Why a branch may not unlock
Episode Battle branches can depend on battle performance as well as story choices, so winning a fight does not always satisfy its alternate condition. Bandai Namco’s Episode Battle handbook describes the Story Map as a progress overview that lets players return to earlier story points and change choices.
- Open the Story Map and locate the Piccolo mission or branch that remains incomplete.
- Return to that mission and review its displayed objective or details for the condition you need to meet.
- Complete the condition before finishing the encounter, then check the Story Map for the newly available node.
The handbook confirms the map’s progress and replay functions; checking the battle details and verifying a new node afterward are practical ways to apply those features. It does not specify an exact pause-menu label for the objective screen.

Game and DLC scope
This guide covers the base-game Piccolo Episode Battle route conditions described by the cited walkthroughs. Bandai Namco’s July 23, 2026 announcement describes Super Limit-Breaking NEO as separate DLC adding four Episode Battles; it does not establish that Piccolo’s route in this guide requires that DLC. Bandai Namco lists the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
