They are not interchangeable with every dragon-themed spell: Elden Ring also has a distinct Dragon Cult category.

The Dragon Communion Seal’s in-game description captures the category’s unsettling theme: “Formless drakeblood seal with a dragon communion crest. Enhances Dragon Communion incantations. The sacrificial devouring of the heart gives power. Indeed, Dragon Communion is too primal in nature for the term ‘incantation’ to be appropriate.” This is flavor text from the item description, not a separate gameplay rule. How do you cast one?
- Equip a Sacred Seal. Dragon Communion spells are incantations; a seal is the casting tool. The Dragon Communion Seal itself can cast incantations, but it is not mandatory: another Sacred Seal can cast them too.
- Meet the spell’s requirements. Check its Faith and Arcane requirements in the spell’s equipment or inventory details. Exact requirements differ by incantation.
- Memorize and select the incantation. Use a Site of Grace to memorize it, then select it as your active spell.
- Cast with the equipped seal. Use the attack input assigned to the hand holding the seal. If the spell does not cast, confirm that the seal is equipped, the incantation is memorized and selected, and your attributes meet its requirements.
What does the Dragon Communion Seal do?
The Dragon Communion Seal is a Sacred Seal with minimum requirements of 10 Faith and 10 Arcane. It enhances Dragon Communion incantations and its incantation scaling uses Arcane as well as Faith. That makes it relevant to characters investing in both attributes; it does not mean every incantation belongs to the Dragon Communion school or receives the category-specific boost.

What to check before building around the school
- Compare a spell’s role, element or status effect, FP and memory-slot cost, attribute requirements, reach, area, and heart cost before committing to it.
- For seals, separate ordinary incantation scaling from a seal’s bonus to a particular school. The Dragon Communion Seal has both Arcane scaling and a school-specific benefit.
- For current-version balance, check your platform’s regulation version and the official notes. A PvP hit-reaction change should not be read as a PvE damage change.
