Can you play the Switch version on Switch 2?
Yes. The Nintendo Switch edition can be played on Switch 2, but it runs with Switch-level graphical settings. The Switch 2 edition does not run on the original Nintendo Switch. Square Enix says the two versions have the same story, game content and obtainable items, but they are separate releases rather than interchangeable upgrades.

What is Dragon Quest VII Reimagined about?
The game remakes DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, first released on PlayStation in 2000. It begins on secluded Estard Island, where childhood friends discover ancient tablet fragments. Completing tablets opens gateways to other worlds, sending the group through adventures that connect the past and present.

What has changed in the remake?
A miniature-inspired 3D presentation
Square Enix describes the remake’s visual style as hand-crafted and reminiscent of miniature figures. Towns and environments are staged like dioramas, and the original character designs by Akira Toriyama have been reimagined for this presentation.
World exploration and battles
Tablet fragments remain central to progression: assembling them unlocks destinations and drives the journey between worlds. Square Enix also says weaker enemies can be defeated while exploring without entering a conventional battle, helping keep traversal moving.
