What is Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Switch 2?
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a combined Switch 2 release of Capcom’s role-playing game and its new expansion content. Capcom describes Dark Arisen as a paid expansion that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, which originally launched in March 2024. On Switch 2, the main game and that expansion are sold together as one title rather than as separate purchases.

Capcom announced the Switch 2 launch for October 9, 2026. The company also confirmed both a packaged Switch 2 edition and a download edition. On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the new content is offered as expansion DLC instead of this combined Switch 2 package.

Looking only for “Dragon’s Dogma 2” can bring up information about the 2024 game or the separate expansion versions on other platforms. For Switch 2, use the full name Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen and check that the product is identified as Switch 2 software.

How large is the Switch 2 download?
The safest planning number is approximately 54 GB. Nintendo’s official New Zealand eShop page has displayed two different values for the same game:

These are not two separately announced editions or two guaranteed install sizes. They are conflicting renderings of Nintendo’s listing, and the discrepancy has not been resolved. Do not describe 49.5 GB or 54.0 GB as a final, universal file size for every region, revision or installation.
Before you start the download, open the live Nintendo eShop page for your region and read the requirement shown on your Switch 2. The console’s download and installation prompt is the final check for your account and current software version. Having roughly 54 GB available gives you a practical margin, but it is not a promise that exactly 54 GB will be sufficient.

How much free space should you prepare?
Why the store estimate is not a hard capacity requirement
Nintendo warns that more or less free space than the displayed estimate may be needed to install software. The number shown by an eShop listing is therefore a planning aid, not a guarantee that the installation will consume exactly that amount. Downloaded data, temporary installation space and later updates can affect what the console asks for at the moment you install.

For this title, a sensible approach is to begin with about 54 GB of free space and then follow the amount shown by your regional listing and console. If the system reports that the available space is insufficient, the installation has not failed because the game is defective; it simply needs more room than is currently available.
Check the requirement before buying or downloading
- Open the official Nintendo eShop listing for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on your Switch 2 or in your region’s current web store.
- Confirm that the listing identifies the product as Switch 2 software, not a version for another platform.
- Record the current “required space” or “estimated” figure shown there. Because Nintendo’s listing has displayed both 49.5 GB and 54.0 GB, use the higher number when planning.
- Check the free space reported by the console before starting the purchase or download.
- If the console asks for more room, stop the installation and create space or connect compatible expansion storage before trying again.
What if the internal storage is not large enough?
Nintendo’s guidance is straightforward: delete software you no longer need or add storage. Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards for expansion. A regular microSD card should not be assumed to meet the console’s requirement; the relevant specification is microSD Express.
Freeing space
Remove unneeded downloaded games, demos or other software through the console’s data-management controls. Deleting software is different from deleting save data, so read the confirmation screen carefully and preserve save data you still need. Re-downloading a purchased game is possible through the account that bought it, but the first installation still requires enough free space for the current download and installation process.
Adding a microSD Express card
If you choose expansion storage, use a card explicitly identified as microSD Express and install it according to Nintendo’s Switch 2 instructions. The evidence available for this release does not establish a required card capacity, speed rating beyond the console’s format, or a particular manufacturer. Choose capacity based on the games you plan to keep installed rather than assuming one size is officially required for this title.

After inserting a compatible card, check the console’s available space again and revisit the game’s eShop listing. The store may still request temporary room during installation, so do not fill the card to its nominal limit before starting a large download.
What is known about the physical edition?
Capcom confirms that a packaged Switch 2 edition exists. That confirms a retail box and physical product, but it does not by itself establish what is stored on the card inside. The official material reviewed for this release does not identify the card format, the amount of game data on the card, or whether the packaged version requires a substantial additional download.
Nintendo’s general support guidance notes that a game may need update data and directs customers to the official game page or the package for title-specific storage information. That general warning does not prove that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen requires an update or download, nor does it prove that the card contains the complete game.
If your buying decision depends on playing from the card without a large download, inspect the final package information or a reliable, current hands-on report before opening the box. Do not assume that a “packaged edition” means a standard full-data cartridge, and do not assume that it is a Game-Key Card. Neither description has been verified for this title by the official information cited here.

Download edition versus packaged edition

Neither format removes the need to check current information. Digital buyers should verify the live regional size and available storage. Physical buyers should verify the package’s card and download requirements instead of relying on the presence of a box.
Regional pricing and availability
Capcom’s Japanese release notice lists a suggested retail price of ¥5,990 including tax for both the packaged and download versions in Japan. That is a Japan-specific suggested price, not a worldwide launch price and not necessarily the current price at a retailer or in another eShop region. Prices, taxes, release timing and stock can differ by country.
Use your own region’s Nintendo eShop or an authorized local retailer for the amount you will actually pay. Confirm that the listing is for the Switch 2 version and includes the combined Dark Arisen package rather than a different platform’s expansion product.

- Search for the complete title: Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.
- Confirm the platform label says Switch 2.
- Reserve approximately 54 GB for the download edition, while recognizing that Nintendo has also displayed 49.5 GB.
- Leave additional headroom because Nintendo says the displayed estimate may not equal the exact free space required for installation.
- Use only microSD Express for Switch 2 expansion storage.
- If buying physical, verify the package or current reliable coverage for card contents and any download requirement.
- Check your regional price; the ¥5,990 figure applies specifically to Japan and includes Japanese consumption tax.
Troubleshooting storage and installation problems
The eShop says there is not enough space
Compare the console’s free-space figure with the current requirement shown on the game listing. If the free space is lower, delete unneeded software or add a compatible microSD Express card, then retry. Because Nintendo allows that more space may be needed than its estimate, do not aim to leave only a few megabytes beyond the displayed number.

The listing shows a different number than an article or screenshot
Use the live regional listing and the console prompt rather than an old screenshot. The New Zealand listing has already appeared with both 49.5 GB and 54.0 GB estimated. A different number can reflect a changed rendering, region or software revision; it is not evidence that one source is describing a different game.
A packaged copy asks for a download
Do not infer the card format from the box alone. Follow the console’s on-screen requirement and consult the package’s title-specific information. The official details currently confirm the existence of the physical edition but do not state whether an additional download is mandatory or how much data the card contains.
Bottom line for Switch 2 buyers
Buyers should treat Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen as a large installation. Reserve about 54 GB for the digital version, check the current regional listing immediately before downloading, and remember that Nintendo’s estimate is not an exact-space guarantee. Switch 2 expansion storage must be microSD Express. The packaged edition is real, but its card contents and any required download remain unconfirmed, so verify those details if a physical, low-download purchase is essential.
