Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to Find and Appraise Relics (Dark Arisen Guide)

Relics, called spoils in item descriptions, are unidentified rewards from combat and exploration in Norgan. This guide shows the early Valgr Ravine pickup, Jiera’s appraisal steps, example RC costs and the randomized reward pool.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, relics—also called spoils in item descriptions—are unidentified rewards. Pick them up from exploration and defeated enemies in Norgan, carry them back to the Norgandian Settlement, and ask Jiera to appraise them in exchange for Rift Crystals (RC). An appraisal converts the unidentified object into a usable reward, but the result is randomized.

The clearest early example is the level-one Light Weaponry spoil in Valgr Ravine. The introductory walkthrough reports a 15 RC appraisal fee and a first-appraisal allowance of 300 RC from Jiera. That spoil can produce a sword, daggers, or a censer, each with a random special skill, so no particular weapon or roll is guaranteed.

What relics and spoils are in Dark Arisen

Relics are the expansion’s unidentified gear-and-reward drops. The launch coverage uses “relic” and “spoil” for the same general class of object, while the detailed introductory quest labels its item Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry. Until Jiera appraises one, it is not usable equipment.

Every spoil occupies space and adds carry weight. If you keep collecting without returning to town, your encumbrance can become the practical limit on exploration. VGC’s guide recommends visiting the settlement periodically rather than treating relics as weightless quest tokens. The system is therefore a loop: explore or fight, pick up unidentified rewards, return before your load becomes troublesome, and spend RC at the settlement.

For the broad system description, see VGC’s relics, spoils and appraisal guide and NoobFeed’s appraisal guide.

Where do I find a relic?

There is no verified, complete relic map or published drop-rate table. The reliable general answer is to search enemy drops and exploration locations throughout Norgan, especially chests and conspicuous gathering spots. The early quest route below gives one specific pickup rather than claiming to list every possible location.

The early Valgr Ravine spoil

The introductory “Relics of the Past” walkthrough directs you to a sunken wreck in Valgr Ravine. The target is in the pool beneath the second waterfall, among wrecked crates and clay jars beside a boulder. The item is named Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry.

Several nearby objects can look similar. The walkthrough specifically distinguishes the target from a damaged cart at the lakeshore and another shattered cart beside the stream. Neither cart is the item you need for this pickup.

Beorcans and direwolves are present along the route. You can run past them; defeating them is not required to collect the spoil from the wreck. That can save healing items and time if your only aim is to begin the appraisal.

How to start the Relics of the Past objective

According to the updated walkthrough, the quest becomes available after “Chilling Tidings” in the Norgandian Settlement. Jiera is seated beside a wooden house near the bonfire.

  1. Finish the “Chilling Tidings” prerequisite.
  2. Find Jiera by the wooden house near the settlement bonfire.
  3. Speak with her and accept the objective to obtain a relic.
  4. Leave through the ruined stone archway and follow the road downhill toward the lake.

The quest wording can make the objective sound like any unidentified item will do. The Valgr Ravine wreck is the named early route in the walkthrough, so use it when you want a clearly documented first pickup.

Valgr Ravine route: step-by-step

  1. Exit the settlement. Go through the ruined stone archway.
  2. Take the downhill road. Continue toward the lake rather than stopping at the first cart or shoreline debris.
  3. Follow the stream. Pass the first waterfall and stay with the watercourse.
  4. Reach the second waterfall. Enter the pool at its base.
  5. Inspect the sunken wreck. Look for crates and clay jars near a boulder. The spoil is in this wreck, not in the nearby damaged carts.
  6. Collect the item. Confirm that the pickup is labeled “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry.”
  7. Return to the settlement. Retrace the stream and road, or use your normal travel options, while keeping the spoil in your inventory.

The route and object distinctions come from AllThingsHow’s “Relics of the Past” walkthrough, updated October 12, 2026.

Prepare for the trip before chasing a spoil

Because unidentified spoils add weight immediately, check your inventory before leaving the settlement. Deposit or sell unnecessary items if your party is already close to its carry limit. This is especially useful when you plan to investigate several chests or fight on the way back; a successful pickup can become a burden before you reach Jiera.

Keep a Rift Crystal reserve as well. The fee is shown only after you select a spoil in Jiera’s menu, and the documented 15 RC price applies to the level-one Light Weaponry example, not automatically to every item. If you have several unidentified rewards, deciding which one to process first is safer than spending all of your RC on the first highlighted entry.

The early route does not require clearing the road. Beorcans and direwolves can be bypassed, so a light, direct run is a valid option when the goal is the wreck rather than experience or materials. The quest prerequisite still matters: if Jiera does not offer the objective, confirm that “Chilling Tidings” has been completed.

Where do I appraise relics?

Appraisal takes place at the Norgandian Settlement. Jiera is the named appraisal NPC. Returning to the settlement is not merely a quest turn-in: it is where unidentified spoils become equipment, currency or consumables.

How to appraise a spoil with Jiera

  1. Travel to the Norgandian Settlement with the unidentified spoil in your inventory.
  2. Locate Jiera near the wooden house and bonfire.
  3. Start a conversation and choose “Tell me of relics.”
  4. Review the list of spoils that can be appraised.
  5. Select the spoil you want to process and check the displayed RC fee.
  6. Choose Appraise and confirm the transaction.
  7. Review the revealed reward, then choose the available inventory action, such as taking it, storing it or selling it.

Do not expect the unidentified object to function as a weapon before step six. Its level and category identify the appraisal pool; they do not reveal the exact weapon, statistics or special skill in advance.

What to check on the appraisal screen

Use the confirmation screen as your final reference for three things: which spoil is selected, how many Rift Crystals it costs, and what the game reveals after confirmation. The category label can narrow the broad reward family, but it does not disclose a fixed outcome. A Light Weaponry spoil can still resolve into different weapon types, and the resulting statistics and skill are not guaranteed by a screenshot or another player’s result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After the reveal, deal with the item immediately if your load is high. The menu may let you take the reward, store it, sell it or otherwise manage it. This makes the settlement a useful unloading stop even when the result is a curative, gold, Norgan Ducats or a rare scroll rather than equipment. Do not assume every appraisal must be equipped; some outcomes are valuable precisely because they are non-gear rewards.

What does the first appraisal cost?

The opening walkthrough reports two separate figures for the introductory example. Jiera supplies 300 RC to support the first appraisal, while the level-one Light Weaponry spoil displays a 15 RC appraisal cost. The 300 RC is a quest-specific allowance reported by AllThingsHow, not a universal amount granted for every future appraisal. Likewise, 15 RC is the fee shown for that particular level-one example, not a confirmed price for every spoil tier.

Figure What it describes Qualification
300 RC Rift Crystals supplied by Jiera for the first appraisal Reported for the introductory quest by AllThingsHow; not established as a recurring allowance
15 RC Displayed appraisal fee for “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry” Example item cost; prices for other levels and types are not stated
3,000 XP Quest-completion reward Reported for the introductory “Relics of the Past” walkthrough; not an appraisal rate

Because the fee is shown before confirmation, check the current number on Jiera’s appraisal screen rather than budgeting from the level-one example. No verified source establishes a complete cost curve by spoil level.

What can a Light Weaponry spoil become?

The item description transcribed by the walkthrough reads: Timeworn arms of an ancient war. Have them appraised to obtain a sword, daggers, or censer. Those are possible categories for the documented level-one Light Weaponry spoil:

  • Sword
  • Daggers
  • Censer

The special skill is randomized. VGC also reports randomized equipment statistics and says appraisal can reveal outcomes that are not gear at all, including Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold and rare scrolls. The practical consequence is important: an appraisal is a roll from a reward pool, not a way to order a specific weapon.

What “level one” does and does not tell you

“Lv 1” identifies the spoil’s level category. It does not guarantee a sword, a preferred statistic spread or a particular skill. A result shown in a video or guide is an example of one roll. Treat screenshots as demonstrations of the process, not promises about your own inventory.

Which spoil should you appraise first?

No two appraisal providers or verified tier tables are established, so the decision has to be made from the information visible in your game. Use these criteria in order:

  1. Check the displayed RC fee. Keep enough Rift Crystals for the appraisal you actually want to perform; do not assume the 15 RC example applies to another object.
  2. Match the spoil to your vocation and current build. A Light Weaponry spoil can produce three different weapon categories, so appraising it is more attractive when you can use more than one possible result.
  3. Consider the spoil level and type. Higher labels may be more relevant to a developed character, but no source confirms that a higher fee guarantees better statistics or a desired skill.
  4. Account for carry weight. If your inventory is approaching its limit, processing or storing a spoil at the settlement may be more useful than carrying it to another region.
  5. Accept the random pool. Appraise when you can use a possible weapon or are willing to receive a non-gear reward; postpone it when spending RC would leave you unable to process a more suitable item.

This is a resource-management choice, not a known “best relic” strategy. Exact odds by level, weapon category and non-gear reward have not been published in the verified guides.

How to manage several spoils efficiently

When a trip produces multiple unidentified items, group your decisions around the settlement visit. First, inspect the displayed fees and your current RC total. Next, prioritize a spoil whose possible categories fit your active vocation or one you would genuinely use if the roll is unfavorable. Finally, store or sell revealed items before setting out again so the next expedition starts with room for more loot.

This approach avoids two common extremes: carrying every unidentified object until encumbrance blocks exploration, or spending crystals impulsively and then lacking enough for a more relevant item. Since the guides do not establish odds or a guaranteed quality increase for a higher level, the visible type, fee and your own build are the defensible decision points.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Searching the wrong cart

The lakeshore’s damaged cart and the shattered cart beside the stream are landmarks, not the documented target. Continue to the second waterfall pool and inspect the sunken wreck with crates and clay jars.

Fighting every enemy on the route

Beorcans and direwolves can be bypassed for this pickup. If your party is already carrying a heavy load or low on resources, run to the wreck, collect the spoil and return rather than turning the route into an unnecessary battle.

Trying to equip an unidentified spoil

A spoil is not finished gear. Bring it to Jiera and use the “Tell me of relics” menu first. Only the revealed result can be managed as a weapon, consumable, currency item or other reward.

Assuming a guide’s weapon is guaranteed

The documented Light Weaponry result may be a sword, daggers or censer, and its special skill is random. If another player received a sword, that does not establish a fixed quest reward.

Spending all Rift Crystals without checking the fee

The first example costs 15 RC, but the sources do not give prices for every spoil. Read the amount displayed for each selection and leave a reserve if you intend to appraise more than one item.

Expecting a full map or drop-rate chart

The available guides establish enemy and exploration loot as categories, not an exhaustive location list or probability table. Marking every chest as a guaranteed relic source would go beyond what has been verified.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Leaving the settlement without checking your load

Because spoils themselves add carry weight, a successful pickup can push a character or party toward encumbrance. Deposit or sell surplus items, and use the appraisal visit to resolve heavy rewards before beginning another long route.

What is confirmed—and what is still unknown

The following points are supported by the cited launch-period guides:

  • Relics and spoils are unidentified rewards found through combat and exploration in Norgan.
  • They add carry weight while unidentified.
  • Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement appraises them for Rift Crystals.
  • The first quest route leads to a level-one Light Weaponry spoil at a sunken wreck under the second Valgr Ravine waterfall.
  • The example appraisal costs 15 RC, and Jiera supplies 300 RC for the first appraisal in that walkthrough.
  • Results can vary by weapon category, skill and statistics, with possible non-gear outcomes.

These points remain unestablished:

  • A complete Norgan relic map.
  • Exact enemy, chest or gathering-point drop probabilities.
  • A universal RC price for each spoil level or type.
  • Guaranteed statistics, skills or weapon categories for a particular spoil.
  • A definitive rule separating every use of the words “relic” and “spoil.”

No official manual or official drop table explaining the Dark Arisen appraisal system was identified in the reviewed material. If a later patch changes costs, quest dialogue or reward pools, use the number and wording currently displayed in your game as authoritative.

A compact route to your first appraisal

  1. Complete “Chilling Tidings” in the Norgandian Settlement.
  2. Speak with Jiera beside the wooden house near the bonfire and accept the relic objective.
  3. Travel through the ruined archway, down toward the lake, and along the stream.
  4. Pass the first waterfall and search the second waterfall’s pool.
  5. Take “Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry” from the sunken wreck near the boulder.
  6. Return to Jiera, select “Tell me of relics,” and inspect the displayed fee.
  7. Spend the stated RC amount, choose Appraise, and manage the revealed reward.

The walkthrough records 3,000 XP for completing this introductory quest. The reward is tied to that quest example; it should not be read as a general payment for every appraisal.

Bottom line for relic hunters

Find unidentified spoils while fighting and exploring Norgan, then return to the Norgandian Settlement before carry weight becomes a problem. Jiera is the appraisal point, and the documented first run uses 300 supplied RC to cover a 15 RC level-one Light Weaponry appraisal. The Valgr Ravine wreck is the dependable early route, but the reveal is random: sword, daggers, censer, varied statistics, a random skill or even a non-gear reward are all possible. Use the fee and spoil information shown in your own appraisal screen, and avoid treating any guide’s single roll as a guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find a relic in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen?

Search enemy drops and exploration loot throughout Norgan. For the documented early quest pickup, follow the stream in Valgr Ravine past the first waterfall to the pool beneath the second waterfall and inspect the sunken wreck of crates and clay jars beside a boulder.

Where do I appraise relics?

Return to the Norgandian Settlement and speak with Jiera, who is seated near the wooden house and bonfire. Choose “Tell me of relics” to open the appraisal menu.

How do I appraise a spoil with Jiera?

Bring the unidentified spoil to Jiera, select “Tell me of relics,” choose an item, check its displayed Rift Crystal fee, select Appraise and confirm. Then take, store, sell or otherwise manage the revealed reward.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does the first appraisal cost?

The introductory level-one Light Weaponry example displays a 15 RC fee. AllThingsHow also reports that Jiera supplies 300 RC for the first appraisal in that quest. Neither figure is established as a universal price or recurring allowance.

What can the Valgr Ravine Light Weaponry spoil become?

The documented pool can produce a sword, daggers or a censer. The special skill and equipment statistics are randomized, and appraisal systems can also reveal Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold or rare scrolls.

Do I have to defeat the beorcans and direwolves near the wreck?

No. The walkthrough says you can run past those enemies; defeating them is not required to collect the spoil from the sunken wreck.

Can I equip a relic before appraisal?

No. A relic or spoil is unidentified until Jiera processes it. Only the resulting weapon, consumable, currency item or other reward can be managed normally.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is there a complete relic map or drop-rate chart?

The documented guides do not establish an exhaustive map, exact enemy or chest probabilities, or universal costs by level. Treat the Valgr Ravine location as one early route, not a complete list.

The Bottom Line

Explore and fight in Norgan for unidentified spoils, then bring them to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement. The early Valgr Ravine wreck provides a level-one Light Weaponry example: 15 RC to appraise, with 300 RC reported for the first quest appraisal. Results are randomized, so check the fee on-screen and treat every weapon or skill as a possible roll, not a promise.
