To understand the elves in Sacred Arbor in Dragon’s Dogma 2, arrange for a Pawn to translate: recruit one with the Woodland Wordsmith specialization, teach that specialization to your Main Pawn with the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, or progress Glyndwr’s questline. Woodland Wordsmith is a Pawn specialization; it is your Pawn—not a permanent language skill for the Arisen—that handles translation.
Three ways to understand Elvish

Recruit a Pawn who already translates
Check Pawns in a Rift for the Woodland Wordsmith specialization. VGC says you can inspect a Pawn’s specialization there, and that the translator enables communication with the elves; Siliconera likewise reports that a hired Pawn with Woodland Wordsmith translates Elvish in Sacred Arbor. This is the most direct route if you find a suitable recruit. VGC’s guide and Siliconera’s guide describe this method.

Teach Woodland Wordsmith to your Main Pawn
The Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome teaches the specialization to your Main Pawn. Siliconera’s walkthrough says to raise Kough’s affinity at Kough’s Inn in Sacred Arbor by giving three Bunch of Flowers, resting at the inn, then giving a fourth gift the next morning. Kough then gives you the Tome. Use it from your inventory to teach your Main Pawn.
That exact gift count and rest sequence is Siliconera’s reported walkthrough, not a universal requirement established by all guides. GameRevolution also lists obtaining the Tome as a route but summarizes the affinity steps differently. See Siliconera’s Kough walkthrough and GameRevolution’s guide.

Use Glyndwr’s questline as another route
Glyndwr, an elf encountered in Vermund, can also provide translation help as you progress his questline. VGC points to his quests, including “A Trial of Archery”; GameRevolution also identifies completing his questline as a way to understand Elvish.
