On Metacritic’s listings accessed October 8, 2026, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has an 86 critic Metascore, five points above Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen at 81. That comparison is between separate release records and review pools—not a same-platform test—and neither score belongs to the newly announced Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion.
How the Metacritic scores compare
| Title and listing | Critic Metascore | Critic reviews | User score | Release context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon’s Dogma 2 | 86 | 83 | 6.5 from 2,689 user ratings | 2024 game; all-platform listing |
| Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen | 81 | 62 | 7.9 from 908 user ratings | Older game; the opened Metacritic record is the PC listing, dated January 15, 2016 |
These figures are snapshots of the two Metacritic listings as accessed October 8, 2026. The 86 and 81 are critic Metascores; the separate user scores show a different pattern, with the older game rated higher by users on those records. Review counts and rating totals are not equivalent measures of quality, and the listings aggregate different releases and critic samples. Metacritic’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 listing and its Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen listing provide the underlying records.
Which game is “Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen”?
The title is easy to confuse because it refers to two different products. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the older comparison game. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a separate paid expansion for the 2024 sequel, announced for release on October 9, 2026. Capcom describes it as adding a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2; the publisher’s announcement does not assign it a Metacritic score. The older game’s 81 therefore cannot be presented as the expansion’s score. Capcom announced the expansion on June 10, 2026.
What the expansion’s purchase format means
PS5
The US PlayStation Store listing shows the expansion at $29.99, with an October 9, 2026 release date, and says it cannot be used without the base game, Dragon’s Dogma 2. The price is specific to that US listing as accessed October 8, 2026; it should not be assumed to apply in other markets or at other times. See the US PlayStation Store expansion page.

Nintendo Switch 2
Capcom says the Nintendo Switch 2 version combines the main game and expansion content into a single package. That announced format differs from the PS5 listing, where the expansion is a separate add-on requiring the base game. Capcom’s announcement is the source for the Switch 2 package description.
What the older Dark Arisen adds
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is itself a distinct action RPG release, not merely the expansion announced for Dragon’s Dogma 2. Steam describes the older game as featuring three AI Pawn companions, multiple vocations, and the Bitterblack Isle content. Its Metacritic record is the comparison point for the 81 score, not a review record for the new sequel expansion. Steam’s listing for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen details that game.
