Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 for vocation-based action combat and a customizable Pawn party, Skyrim for open-ended fantasy exploration, or Monster Hunter Wilds for learning weapons and taking on monster hunts. The best fit depends less on which game is “best” and more on what you want to do most of the time.
How the three games differ
| Game | Main activity | Combat and companions | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon’s Dogma 2 | Go on a single-player action-RPG adventure. | Choose a vocation with its own strengths and playstyle. A customizable main Pawn and additional Pawn companions support your character. | Confirm platform, region, and product format. The cited PlayStation listing is for PS5. PlayStation’s game page describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. |
| The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition | Explore an open fantasy world and decide what kind of character to play. | Shape your character through choices such as weapons, spells, and abilities; the focus is broad freedom rather than a fixed party-based journey. | Check whether you need the full Anniversary Edition or only the digital upgrade, and confirm platform and market. Bethesda says the upgrade requires Skyrim Special Edition. Bethesda’s Skyrim page lists the edition’s included content and supported platforms. |
| Monster Hunter Wilds | Prepare for and complete hunts against monsters in changing environments. | Learn a weapon type and build your approach around the hunt. Capcom describes 14 weapon types and a loadout that lets you carry two weapons and swap between them while mounted. | Check the current store listing for your platform, region, and edition. See Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds materials for the game’s published feature details. |
Which one fits the way you want to play?
Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a party-based fantasy journey
Pick Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you want real-time action combat where your chosen vocation shapes how you fight, alongside a companion party built around your customized main Pawn. The game is single-player; the Pawn system can let you recruit companions created by other players, but that does not make the adventure multiplayer.

Choose Skyrim for freedom to wander and define your character
Pick Skyrim if your priority is exploring an open-world fantasy setting at your own pace and deciding what kind of character to become. If you are looking at Anniversary Edition, distinguish the full edition from the digital upgrade: Bethesda says the upgrade requires ownership of Skyrim Special Edition. Anniversary Edition bundles the base game, three official add-ons, and Creation Club content; check the store listing for the exact platform and market you intend to use.
Choose Monster Hunter Wilds for weapon mastery and hunts
Pick Monster Hunter Wilds if you most want to learn a weapon and prepare for repeated monster hunts. Capcom’s published materials identify 14 weapon types and describe carrying two weapons into the field, with the ability to swap while mounted. Its feature emphasis is the hunter, weapons, monsters, and hunt loop—not the broad, self-directed character role-playing associated with Skyrim.

If you like Skyrim, should you try Dragon’s Dogma 2?
It may suit you if what you enjoy in Skyrim is being in a fantasy adventure and you are ready for a more combat-centered experience with vocation choices and Pawn companions. It is a less direct fit if your main reason for playing Skyrim is the freedom to wander and shape a character on your own terms: Dragon’s Dogma 2 emphasizes action-RPG combat and its companion system instead. The games offer different priorities, so liking one does not guarantee that the other will suit you.
Check edition and platform details before purchase
- For Dragon’s Dogma 2, verify your platform and region on the store page; the cited PlayStation page is specifically for PS5.
- For Skyrim, confirm whether the listing is for Anniversary Edition or its digital upgrade, and check the upgrade prerequisite and included content for your market.
- For Monster Hunter Wilds, consult your platform’s current store listing for edition and availability details.
Store availability and edition details can vary by region and change over time. The official feature descriptions establish the games’ different play styles, but they do not establish a quality ranking, relative performance, current prices, or which game a particular player will enjoy most.
