Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 if you want action-focused combat, tactical use of the environment, and a customizable party built around AI companions called Pawns. Choose Skyrim if you want the Elder Scrolls role-playing experience and are considering Anniversary Edition’s bundle of official expansions and Creation Club content. Neither is the objectively better choice; the deciding factor is what you want from an open-world RPG.

Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 for combat and a customizable party
Capcom describes Dragon’s Dogma 2 as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. Its design puts choices about your character, vocation, party, and approach to situations at the center of play. PlayStation’s game description highlights enemies that react to player tactics, as well as opportunities to exploit weaknesses and the environment.

The Pawn system is central to the party experience. You create a main Pawn alongside your Arisen, then can hire two additional Pawns through in-game options or online. Online hiring does not make the game multiplayer: Steam lists Dragon’s Dogma 2 as single-player, and the online option concerns hiring Pawns.
This is the stronger fit if the idea of adapting your tactics during fights and shaping a companion party appeals more than choosing a particular franchise’s established role-playing world. That is a preference-based recommendation, not a claim that its combat is universally better.

Choose Skyrim for the Elder Scrolls experience and Anniversary Edition bundle
Skyrim is the pick if what you want is the Elder Scrolls role-playing experience. If you are looking at Anniversary Edition, Bethesda says it includes the core game, the Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire add-ons, plus Creation Club content. Bethesda describes that content as including additional quests, weapons, armor, spells, and dungeons.
Do not assume every platform edition contains the same bundle. Bethesda says content and availability can vary by platform and region, and prices and availability may differ too. Check the exact edition for the platform you plan to play before buying.

Dragon’s Dogma 2
Capcom’s November 2023 announcement listed PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and scheduled the game for March 22, 2024. Steam lists March 21, 2024; release-date presentation may differ by platform or region. Capcom’s June 10, 2026 announcement schedules Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen for Switch 2 on October 9, 2026. That package is described as including Dragon’s Dogma 2 and expansion content. As of October 7, 2026, that Switch 2 release is still scheduled for a future date, so verify its status if you are reading this later.
Skyrim Anniversary Edition
Bethesda says Anniversary Edition is available on Switch 2. Its physical Switch 2 release is code-in-box, not a cartridge edition. Bethesda’s FAQ says redeeming content for a physical edition requires internet access; check the exact platform wording for download requirements. No current price comparison is established here, and Bethesda notes that price and availability can vary by platform or region.

- Get Skyrim if you want the Elder Scrolls experience and Anniversary Edition’s bundled expansions and Creation Club content.
- Check the platform edition first if you are buying for Switch 2 or comparing versions: the Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen release is scheduled for October 9, 2026, while Skyrim Anniversary Edition’s physical Switch 2 version is code-in-box.
For context, Capcom reported more than 7.9 million Dragon’s Dogma series units sold cumulatively as of September 30, 2023. That is a series-wide figure, not sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2 alone, and it is not a like-for-like comparison with Skyrim.
