DREADMOOR is planned to enter Steam Early Access on 9 November 2026. Dream Dock is developing the flooded-world survival adventure, with Digital Vortex Entertainment as publisher. The team currently expects Early Access to last approximately 6–12 months. The launch build is intended to contain a complete core gameplay loop, one major region, the original story, and a broad selection of fish species and mutations—not the full map or final feature set.
The most important save warning applies to pre-release playtests: their progress will not carry into future playtests, demos, betas, or the full game. The developer has not promised that every future Early Access update will preserve saves, so back up local files and read the notes for your current build before assuming a long-term save is safe.

What is DREADMOOR Early Access?
DREADMOOR is a survival adventure built around a working trawler, fishing, scavenging, crafting, exploration, and combat in a flooded, decaying world. You travel between settlements, sell or trade fish, collect scrap and blueprints, improve equipment and the boat, and face mutated creatures both on land and at sea.

Early Access is scheduled for Steam on 9 November 2026. Dream Dock describes the launch version as a playable foundation rather than a small technology demo: the core experience and main gameplay systems are intended to be in place. The planned scope is still deliberately limited compared with the eventual release.

Those are plans, not a binding final checklist. The Steam Early Access FAQ says the feature plan can change as development progresses and as players provide feedback.
How the launch gameplay loop works
Fishing and collecting
Fishing is a skill-based activity rather than a menu-only resource action. Catches feed into the broader economy: you can trade fish, search for rare specimens, and use the proceeds or materials to improve your expedition capability. Fish species and mutations are a major part of the launch content, while more species and mechanics are planned later.
Travel, scavenging, and crafting
Your trawler connects settlements and the surrounding waters. Expeditions combine boat travel with on-foot exploration, where you gather scrap, find blueprints, investigate environmental interactions, and craft equipment. Fuel and survival systems are among the areas listed for ongoing development, so their balance may change during Early Access.
Combat and night danger
Mutated creatures create threats on land and at sea, with real-time combat integrated into exploration. Development priorities specifically mention creature encounters and night-time danger. Expect the risk-and-reward balance of nighttime expeditions, along with enemy behavior, to be tuned over time rather than treated as permanently final at launch.

Progression and the boat
Progression ties together catches, scavenged resources, blueprints, crafted gear, and trawler upgrades. After the available story content, the launch plan is for players to continue exploring, fishing, collecting rare specimens, and improving their boat and equipment. More boat upgrades are planned for the full release.
Will playtest and Early Access saves carry over?
Do not expect pre-release playtest progress to carry over. The official playtest guidance states that “playtest progress will not be retained for future playtests / demos / betas / the full game.” It also warns that continuing from an old save can cause “issues and unexpected bugs.”
What to do after a playtest
- Close DREADMOOR and make a backup of any local save data you want to keep for reference.
- Open the local DREADMOOR files and delete the
Savedfolder, following the developer’s playtest guidance. - Launch the current build and start a new game instead of loading an earlier playtest save.
That instruction is specifically about pre-release playtests. It is not a guarantee that every Early Access save will survive every major update. The official material does not promise cross-build save compatibility. Before a substantial patch, keep a separate backup and check the current build notes for any reset, migration, or incompatibility warning.

Early Access systems can change underneath an existing character or world: progression tables may be reworked, crafting recipes can move, new regions can alter map data, and balance updates may change inventory or boat states. A save that loads is not necessarily a save that is fully compatible. Treat a major version change as a point where starting fresh may be the safer choice, especially if the developer recommends it.

What is unfinished or likely to change?
The launch content is intentionally one-region in scope. The full-release plan adds regions and adventures, more fish, new fishing mechanics, and additional boat upgrades. During Early Access, smaller content additions are expected alongside technical and design improvements.

A complete core loop means the launch build is designed to support the central sequence of setting out, fishing or scavenging, surviving encounters, returning to settlements, trading or crafting, and upgrading the trawler. It does not mean every planned region, late-game system, fish type, puzzle, or quality-of-life feature will be present on day one.
Performance and polish
Early Access updates will also target balance, stability, performance, and general polish. Players should therefore expect the feel of controls, difficulty, economy values, loading behavior, and presentation to evolve. If a feature is important to your decision, distinguish between “included in the launch scope” and “listed as a development priority.”

What does the DREADMOOR demo contain?
The free Steam DREADMOOR Demo released on 6 October 2026. It has a separate questline that takes you to a remote settlement and nearby islands, reachable by boat and explorable on foot.
The demo showcases fishing, scavenging, crafting, ship upgrades, exploration, and combat. It is useful for judging whether the basic controls, atmosphere, travel, and risk-reward loop appeal to you. Do not treat demo progress as a promised starting point for Early Access: the playtest guidance explicitly says pre-release progress is disposable, and the developer has not promised save compatibility across versions.
Earlier access events were PC/Windows playtests. The September 2026 open playtest was available to anyone, had no non-disclosure agreement, and warned that its progress would not carry into future versions.

How long will Early Access last?
Dream Dock currently expects DREADMOOR to remain in Early Access for approximately 6–12 months. That is an estimate, not a firm end date. A release window of that length can move if new regions, fishing systems, technical fixes, or balance work take longer than expected. The available official information does not provide a dated sequence of updates or a guaranteed launch-day feature list for the final version.

Should you buy at Early Access or wait?
The official FAQ says DREADMOOR will be offered at a lower price during Early Access and that the developer plans to raise the price at full release. No numeric price is supplied in the cited official material, so any exact figure found elsewhere should be checked against the live Steam listing.

A practical rule is simple: buy during Early Access when the announced one-region experience is attractive even with possible changes; wait when the missing regions, expanded mechanics, or final polish are the main reason you are interested.

The named feedback subjects include fishing, exploration, progression, difficulty, the economy, nighttime expeditions, controls, accessibility, and performance.
When reporting an issue, include the build number, what you were doing, whether the problem is reproducible, and any relevant save or hardware details. For a balance complaint, identify the specific activity, item, enemy, or progression step and explain the practical effect. Clear reports are more useful than a general statement that a system feels wrong.
