To complete Dressmaker’s Burlap Challenge, first finish the game’s opening three commissions so off-the-rack construction becomes available. Then create and sell three visibly different off-the-rack dresses, assigning burlap to every garment fabric piece in each one. Accessories and trims may use other materials, but they cost money and can reduce your profit. Current guides do not establish a dedicated countdown, fixed cash prize, or separate achievement payout for this challenge, so the practical target is three compliant, high-value dresses.
What the Burlap Challenge actually requires
The challenge has four conditions that must all be satisfied:

- Construction mode: each dress must be made in off-the-rack mode, not as a normal customer commission.
- Uniqueness: the three designs must be visibly different. Repeating one design three times is not a safe way to satisfy the objective.

Accessories, trims and similar finishing items can use another material if the game permits them and you can pay for them. They do not replace the burlap requirement for the garment itself. A dress with a burlap skirt but a non-burlap bodice is not a compliant challenge dress.
The first three commissions are a progression gate, not part of the challenge count. Finish and turn in those commissions, unlock off-the-rack construction, and only then begin the three challenge dresses.

How to unlock off-the-rack construction
Complete the opening commissions
The available guides place the unlock after the first three commissions have been completed. “Completed” means the work has been finished and submitted through the normal commission flow; merely opening a commission or abandoning it does not advance the gate.
Confirm the mode is available
After the third commission is turned in, open the dressmaking project options and look for off-the-rack construction. The exact menu wording and timing can vary between builds. A versioned guide describes the third commission as the expected unlock point but warns that patches can alter progression behavior.
If the option is still missing
- Check that all three opening commissions were delivered successfully rather than left in progress.
- Return to the project-selection screen instead of trying to convert an active commission into an off-the-rack project.
- Restart or reload the current save if the unlock should have occurred but the interface has not refreshed.
- Use the live game’s progression indicators as the authority if they disagree with an older guide, because unlock thresholds and interface behavior are version-sensitive.
Burlap’s properties and their effect on your design
Burlap is attractive for a challenge built around repeated dresses because its listed material cost is 0 gold per metre, according to the iTechGuides Team’s 2026 extracted data. The same data lists Uncomfortable +50 and Patterned +10. It also reports reductions to 16 of 22 tracked style tags.

For ordinary commissions, read the current requirement bars instead of copying a recipe from an earlier build; the Burlap Challenge’s material rule does not override those bars.

A reliable three-dress completion route
1. Finish the progression gate
Complete and submit the first three commissions. Verify that off-the-rack mode can be selected before spending materials or accessories on challenge attempts.
2. Start the correct project type
Create a new off-the-rack project from the independent construction option. Do not accept a customer commission and assume it will count: the challenge instructions specifically call for off-the-rack dresses.
3. Plan three distinguishable designs
Before cutting, decide how each dress will differ. Change at least one major visual element and preferably several: pattern, silhouette, sleeve treatment, neckline, skirt shape or accessory arrangement. The goal is visible distinction, not three color variations of the same pattern. Because all garment panels must remain burlap, use shape and finishing choices to create variety rather than substituting a different fabric.

Inspect the material assignment for each cut piece. Check the bodice, skirt, sleeves, collars, cuffs, overlays and any additional panel generated by the selected pattern. A single non-burlap garment panel can invalidate an otherwise correct dress.

5. Cut accurately
Perform the cutting stage carefully. Cutting quality contributes to the finished result and ultimately affects sale value, so the free fabric should not encourage rushed work.
6. Sew for workmanship
Complete the sewing stage with the same care. A low-quality seam or poorly executed construction can erase the financial benefit of using a zero-cost fabric. If the game displays quality feedback, use it to correct mistakes before finalizing the dress.
7. Price accessories against their return
Add an accessory only when it improves the design or expected sale value enough to justify its purchase price. Burlap itself costs nothing per metre, but paid decoration is not free. Separate challenge economics from commission economics
The challenge is a self-directed off-the-rack objective. A regular commission still has customer requirement bars, and burlap’s penalties can cause failure even though the material rule is satisfied. Do not accept a commission solely because burlap is free; check whether the live brief values the tags burlap supports.

Note the pattern, silhouette, sleeve choice and accessories used for each dress. This prevents accidental duplication and makes it easier to identify which finishing choices improved value without purchasing unnecessary extras.

Is there a reward or a cash prize?
Current challenge guides describe the objective as completing and selling three unique dresses for as much value as possible. They do not publish an authoritative fixed cash reward, achievement payout or separate prize table for finishing the Burlap Challenge. Treat the sale proceeds as the measurable return unless your live build displays an additional reward.
That distinction matters when planning a budget. Do not spend heavily on accessories expecting a guaranteed challenge bonus that has not been documented. The financial objective supported by the available information is to maximize the value of the three sales while remaining compliant.
Is there a time limit?
No authoritative source currently states a dedicated Burlap Challenge countdown or deadline. Ordinary commission scheduling is a separate system and should not be confused with this self-directed objective. If your build shows a timer in the challenge interface, follow that in-game timer for that version; otherwise, there is no documented challenge-specific countdown to plan around.

- Confirm that the first three commissions were completed and turned in.

- Reload the game so the progression state and project menu refresh.
- Check the current build’s instructions, since patches can change the exact unlock behavior.
A dress did not count
- Review every garment panel, not just the most visible piece, and replace any non-burlap fabric.
- Compare the new dress with the previous two. If the pattern, silhouette and finishing are effectively identical, create a visibly different design.
- Verify that the project was off-the-rack rather than a customer commission.
The sale value is disappointing
- Improve cutting accuracy and sewing quality on the next attempt.
- Remove accessories that add less projected value than their purchase price.
- Remember that burlap’s zero material cost does not offset weak workmanship or broad tag penalties.
- Use the live style and requirement bars when selecting a pattern; old recipes may not match a patched version.
A commission fails when burlap is used
Return to the commission’s current requirement bars. The challenge rule allows burlap for its three off-the-rack dresses, but it does not exempt ordinary commissions from comfort, elegance, glamour, romance, floral or other requested targets.

The documented guidance comes from gameplay guides and developer-hosted community material, so claims about a dedicated timer or fixed payout should not be expanded beyond what the game itself displays.
