DroidDeck runs Valve’s Steam client locally on compatible Android devices and opens it in Big Picture mode. It is not just a remote-play app: games run on the Android device, using an ARM64 Linux runtime and Valve’s ARM64 Proton for Windows games. Whether that works well—or works at all—depends on the device and the game.
What is DroidDeck?
The DroidDeck project describes its goal as: “DroidDeck brings the SteamOS experience to Android.” Its app fetches the real Steam client from Valve on the device and presents Steam in Big Picture mode. Windows games use Valve’s ARM64 Proton, with FEX identified in the project’s release information as part of the execution path. DroidDeck project repository · official Releases page.
The key distinction is where the game runs: DroidDeck executes locally on the Android device. A remote-play app instead streams a game running on a separate host PC. Local execution avoids needing that PC to run the game, but makes compatibility and performance dependent on the Android hardware and software stack.
Can I run Steam Big Picture on Android with DroidDeck?
Only if the device meets the project’s stated requirements. The DroidDeck README lists Android 9 or newer and a supported Adreno GPU: Adreno 730 or newer, or an Adreno 8xx model. It explicitly lists Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 as unsupported. Root access is not required. Check the README for the current device requirements before installing, since project documentation can change.

Quick compatibility check
- Android version: Android 9 or newer.
- GPU: Adreno 730 or newer, or Adreno 8xx, according to the README.

A device meeting those baseline requirements is not a guarantee that a particular game will run. DroidDeck says results vary by device and title, and notes that hardware validation is limited.
How do I install DroidDeck?
The project’s basic setup is to install its APK, install the Linux runtime, start DroidDeck, and sign in to Steam. Use the official repository and its Releases page rather than third-party download sites. The project says it has no standalone website and warns users not to trust sites claiming to be the DroidDeck team that offer download links.

- Open the official DroidDeck Releases page and download the APK.
- Install the APK on a device that meets the README’s Android and GPU requirements.
- In DroidDeck, install the Linux runtime.
- Press Play, then sign in to Steam.
The project README estimates about 3 GB for the runtime, plus an additional 1.1 GB for the desktop and emulators. These are project estimates, not independent measurements; leave room for the game files you plan to install as well.
Can DroidDeck play Steam games offline?
The project’s release notes say offline use is available after one sign-in. That describes the app’s stated offline capability, not a guarantee that every Steam game can be launched offline: individual titles may have their own account, launcher, or connectivity requirements.

Will my Steam games work, and how will they perform?
There is no basis in the project materials for assuming that every Steam game is compatible, or for predicting a general frame rate. DroidDeck says device compatibility and performance vary and that hardware validation is limited. Windows game support uses an ARM64 Proton and FEX execution path, but that does not establish compatibility for a particular title.
The project also notes that desktop compositing uses software rendering and that Firefox sandboxing is reduced under proot. These are implementation caveats, not evidence of a specific performance level. Check current project notes and title-specific reports where available, and treat results as device- and game-dependent rather than guaranteed.

What controls does DroidDeck support?
Official release notes document Steam Deck controller identity, device gyro, and Steam Input virtual pads. This establishes the project’s controller-related features, but it does not validate a particular controller model. Check compatibility for your Android device and controller before buying one specifically for DroidDeck.
Is DroidDeck an official Valve app?
No. DroidDeck is an independent project, and its repository says it is not affiliated with Valve. Steam and Proton belong to Valve; DroidDeck is not a Valve release or an endorsed product.
