The important rule is version parity: the server pack, server release, and every client must come from the same Druidic Quest release. A managed host can work, but only if it supports Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge and lets you import the exact server pack.

Do not treat “1.20.1” as the complete version identifier. CurseForge lists multiple 1.20.1 Forge releases, and each release can have its own server pack. The release number is part of the compatibility requirement.

Choose and record one exact release
Use the project’s files archive
Open the official Druidic Quest project listing on CurseForge and select the release your group intends to play. Confirm that the file is for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, then identify the server-pack file associated with that same release. The files archive contains repeated 1.20.1 Forge releases and corresponding server archives, so selecting only by the Minecraft version is not enough.
What to write down
Before downloading anything, make a small setup note containing the release number, the exact server ZIP filename, and the client download your players will use. For the current project result, that note would identify 6.0.0 Beta 6 and Druidic_Quest_Expert6.0.0_Beta_6_server_pack.zip. Earlier releases have different server-pack files and must be treated as separate installations.
Keep the note with the server directory. It gives you a reliable reference when a new player asks which client to install, when you restore a backup, or when you are deciding whether an update is safe.
Download the server pack, not a client-only package
Why the server archive is a separate download
Druidic Quest publishes a distinct server-pack ZIP. A normal client installation is not a substitute for it. The server archive is the package intended to supply the dedicated server’s mods, configuration, scripts, and supporting files.
Preserve the archive’s contents
Create a new, empty server directory and unpack the selected server ZIP into it. Keep the included scripts, configuration files, and README or other documentation together. Do not copy files from another Druidic Quest release into this directory, and do not replace the archive’s startup script with one copied from an older installation. Startup filenames and their behavior can change between releases.
Keeping one directory per release is safer than overwriting a working server. It also makes it possible to return to the previous release if an upgrade does not work with the existing world.

Install and start the server
- Create a dedicated folder. Use a new directory for the release you recorded. Avoid placing the files inside an unrelated Minecraft server or a client instance.
- Unpack the selected server ZIP. Extract every file while preserving the archive’s directory structure. Confirm that the supplied startup script and documentation are present.
- Read the included instructions. Follow the script and README from this exact archive. Do not assume that a command or filename from a different release applies here.
- Run the supplied startup script. Start the server using the method documented by the pack. The first run normally creates or completes the server’s initial files before a world is available.
- Complete the EULA step. If the first launch stops and asks for the Minecraft EULA, open the generated EULA file, review it, and change the acceptance setting as instructed. Restart only after that file has been completed.
- Stop after the first successful initialization. Once the server has generated its initial files, stop it cleanly before making policy or configuration changes. Editing a running world can leave incomplete or conflicting settings.
- Make a baseline backup. Copy the generated world and configuration files to a separate backup location before inviting players. Include the release note with that backup.
- Start again using the same supplied script. Watch the console for a clean startup and leave the process running only after the initial configuration is complete.
The archive is the authority for its launch procedure. No single startup command, Java version, or memory value is stated for every Druidic Quest release, so do not copy a command from a different pack or promise a fixed RAM requirement without checking the files for the release you selected.
Configure the first server safely
Set the server policy in server.properties
After the first launch has stopped, edit the server’s server.properties file. The setup workflow calls out these policy choices:
- Server name: Choose a name players will recognize in their multiplayer list.
- Difficulty: Select the difficulty appropriate for your group’s expert-pack goals.
- Whitelist: Enable and maintain it if access should be limited to invited players.
- View distance: Set a value appropriate for the machine and network you are using, then adjust after observing actual play.
- Other policy settings: Review the remaining properties before opening the server, rather than accepting every default without checking.
The exact settings you choose are administrative decisions, not Druidic Quest compatibility requirements. Record them alongside the release number so a restoration or migration reproduces the intended server behavior.
Back up before changes
Back up the world and configuration before changing the modpack release, replacing files, or making major server-property edits. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory. A backup is most useful when it is labeled with the Druidic Quest release that created it.

Do not remove a configuration or script merely because its purpose is not obvious. Expert packs can depend on files that are not visible in the client’s normal interface. If the included documentation says a file is optional, follow that release-specific guidance; otherwise leave the archive’s structure intact.
Prepare every player’s client
- Tell players the exact release number. Give them the same number recorded for the server, not just “Druidic Quest 1.20.1.”
- Require Minecraft 1.20.1. A client on another Minecraft version is not the matching installation.
- Require Forge. Druidic Quest: Expert is listed as a Forge pack, so a client using a different loader is not equivalent.
- Use the corresponding client download. Players should install the client release that matches the server’s Druidic Quest release. For the current 6.0.0 Beta 6 setup, everyone should use the 6.0.0 Beta 6 client release.
- Do not mix files manually. Combining mods or configuration from an earlier release with the selected client can create a different mod list even when the launcher displays Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Connect only after the installation is complete. Have players launch the pack once before joining so its files can finish generating and any first-run prompts can be handled locally.
Exact release matching prevents the most avoidable connection failures. The server and clients need the same mod set and registry data, not merely the same base game version.

Test locally before inviting remote players
Start with the simplest connection
Test from the same machine or local network before changing router or hosting settings. This separates an installation problem from a network-exposure problem. Verify that the server reaches a clean running state, that a matching client can join, and that the world loads without a mod-list or registry error.
Check the basics during the test
- The server is running from the selected release’s supplied script.
- The client is Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge.
- The client release number exactly matches the server release.
- The world can be entered and left cleanly.
- The whitelist, if enabled, contains the test player’s account.
- The server’s name and difficulty are the values you intended to use.
Stop and correct any mismatch before opening the server to a larger group. A successful local test does not prove that the server is reachable from the internet, but it confirms that the core installation is working before network troubleshooting begins.
Open the server to remote players
Self-hosting at home
Self-hosting gives the operator direct control over the server files, backups, configuration, and network exposure. After the local test, use the host machine’s network controls to make the server reachable to the intended remote players. The exact router, firewall, and operating-system steps depend on your network, so follow those controls’ documentation rather than assuming a setting from another environment.
Keep the server closed while you are still changing files. Once remote access is enabled, use the whitelist and share connection details only with the people who should join.
Using a managed host
A managed provider can reduce the amount of operating-system and network work you perform, but it does not remove the compatibility check. Before paying for a server, confirm all of the following with the provider:
- Minecraft 1.20.1 is supported.
- Forge is supported for the selected Druidic Quest release.
- You can import or upload the project’s exact server-pack ZIP.
- The provider permits the scripts, configuration, and file layout included in that archive.
- You can create and restore backups of the world and configuration.
- You can change server properties and manage a whitelist.
General server-side modpack options documented by Modrinth include Modrinth Servers, mrpack-install, and the itzg/minecraft-server Docker image. Those are general deployment approaches, not a guarantee that a particular provider or image will accept every Druidic Quest release. Verify the exact import process and Forge support before moving the world.

What has not been established
No provider name, price, uptime promise, player-capacity figure, independent performance benchmark, minimum RAM figure, or officially mandated Java version is established for this pack in the available project information. Treat any such number advertised elsewhere as a provider- or release-specific claim that needs its own verification.

“Mod list” or registry mismatch
This usually points to version drift. Recheck the server’s recorded release number, the server ZIP filename, and every player’s client release. Confirm Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge on both sides. Do not try to repair the problem by adding random mods to one installation; restore both sides to the exact release package instead.
The server starts, then stops immediately
Read the first-run output and return to the archive’s README or startup instructions. Confirm that the EULA step was completed and that you launched the supplied script from the extracted server directory. A script copied from another release may refer to different files, so restore the selected archive’s original script before trying again.
A player cannot connect remotely
First prove that a matching client can connect locally. If local access works, inspect the host machine’s network controls, firewall policy, and any provider-side access settings. If local access fails, return to the installation and version checks instead of changing network settings.

Stop the server, restore the pre-upgrade backup if necessary, and verify that the new server pack has its own release directory. Never overwrite a working world without a recoverable copy. If the new release has different scripts or configuration, follow its included documentation rather than importing old files wholesale.
A player installed the right Minecraft version but still cannot join
Check the loader and release number. Minecraft 1.20.1 alone is insufficient: Druidic Quest requires the Forge client and the same Druidic Quest release as the server. Have the player reinstall the matching client package if files from another release were mixed into the instance.

Plan upgrades and recoveries
Keep the old installation intact
When the group decides to try another release, create a new server directory and leave the existing one untouched. Copy the old world and configuration to a labeled backup location, then unpack the new release’s server pack separately. This preserves a known-good rollback path.
Upgrade in a controlled order
- Record the new release number and identify its matching server-pack ZIP.
- Back up the current world and configuration while the old server is stopped.
- Unpack the new server archive into a new directory.
- Read and follow the new archive’s scripts and documentation.
- Start the new installation and complete any first-run EULA step.
- Test with a client on the new matching release before inviting the group.
- Keep the previous server directory until the new world and connections are confirmed.
Do not assume that a later 1.20.1 release can use the earlier release’s server files. The project’s repeated 1.20.1 entries and separate server archives are the reason to treat each selected release as a complete package.

- The old installation remains available before an upgrade is attempted.
Following that sequence produces a reproducible Druidic Quest: Expert server without guessing at release files or unsupported hardware requirements. The durable rule is simple: use the project’s server pack for one exact release, and keep every client on that same release.
