DualSense is a physical PS5 controller; PS Remote Play is a feature that streams gameplay from a PS4 or PS5 to another compatible device. They are not competing products: you can use a DualSense to control a Remote Play session on supported devices. Sony’s official pages do not establish a controller called “DualSense 2.0,” so the phrase should not be treated as a confirmed new launch.
DualSense and Remote Play are different kinds of things
| Question | DualSense | PS Remote Play |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | A physical wireless controller for PS5, with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. PlayStation’s DualSense product page | A feature and app workflow for streaming supported PS4 or PS5 games from a console to a compatible device. PlayStation Remote Play |
| What does it do? | Sends player input to a supported console or device. Sony says its haptics use dual actuators instead of traditional rumble motors; its adaptive triggers can vary force and tension. | Displays console gameplay on a compatible client device over a network. A broadband connection is required, and experience quality may vary with the network. Sony’s Remote Play overview |
| Is it required for the other? | It is one supported input option for Remote Play, not a universal requirement. | It can be used with a compatible controller, and Sony describes supported use cases with on-screen controls or other compatible controllers. |
Is a “DualSense 2.0” controller launching?
Sony’s official DualSense product and support pages do not identify a separate product named “DualSense 2.0.” Without a specific Sony announcement, the label is unverified; it should not be confused with controller software changes or new pairing features.
One relevant update is multi-device pairing. Sony’s system-update announcement, dated July 23, 2025 and updated September 16, 2025, says DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers can be registered to as many as four devices and switched between using a button combination. Sony gives connecting a smartphone for Remote Play as an example. That is a pairing capability, not evidence of a new controller generation: Sony’s announcement.
Can you use DualSense with Remote Play?
Yes, on supported client devices. Sony lists DualSense support for Remote Play on compatible desktop and mobile platforms, among other devices. The controller can connect to supported computers and mobile devices by USB or Bluetooth, but compatibility and available features depend on the specific device, operating system, game, and use case. Check Sony’s current Remote Play device and controller information before relying on a particular setup.
#1 Best Overall
- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Using DualSense does not guarantee that every PS5 controller feature will work through every Remote Play client. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, controller audio, and other functions depend on game and device support.
What do you need for Remote Play?
- A PS4 or PS5 console with the supported game you want to play.
- A compatible client device with the Remote Play app or other supported Remote Play option.
- A network connection; Sony requires broadband and notes that network quality affects the experience.
- A compatible way to control the game. Depending on the supported device and game, that may be a DualSense, another compatible controller, or on-screen controls.
- The account and console configuration required for your setup, as described in Sony’s Remote Play support information.
Should you buy a DualSense for Remote Play?
Buy one if you need a compatible physical controller for your device or prefer playing with one. It is not automatically necessary for everyone who uses Remote Play, because supported setups may offer other control options. If you already own a DualSense, Sony’s multi-device pairing update may make moving between a console and a smartphone more convenient, provided your controller and system software support it.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
A charging station is a separate convenience accessory, not a Remote Play requirement. Sony says its DualSense charging station can dock up to two controllers; consider it only if that charging setup is useful to you.
