Duet Night Abyss does not use character or combat-weapon gacha. You unlock playable characters through story rewards and Secret Letters, while weapons come from Secret Letters, blueprints, components, and forging. The game does still have randomized cosmetic pulls through Myriad, so “no gacha at all” is not accurate.
As of global version 1.5.0, Paradise Prelude, launched on July 28, 2026, the core progression loop is gameplay-based: play content, earn Secret Letter Clues, target a reward pool, and farm the materials needed to build what you obtain.

The short answer: no gameplay gacha, but cosmetic gacha remains
Before launch, Duet Night Abyss removed its character banners, weapon banners, stamina system, and Sanergy system. Combat characters and weapons are not obtained by spending premium currency on randomized banners.
Instead, the game uses a targeted acquisition system built around Secret Letters and Covert Commissions. You can still encounter randomness while farming rewards, but the randomness is inside the gameplay loop rather than a paid character or weapon banner.
The distinction matters:
- Characters: obtained through story progression or Secret Letter rewards.
- Combat weapons: obtained through story rewards, Secret Letters, blueprints, components, shops, crafting, and events.
- Demon Wedges: obtained through commissions, shops, crafting, and rotating activities.
- Cosmetics: available through the randomized Myriad system.
That makes “no gameplay gacha” or “cosmetics-only gacha” a more accurate description than “Duet Night Abyss has no gacha.”

How Myriad works
Myriad is Duet Night Abyss’s cosmetic pull system. Open it from the main menu to view event-exclusive and permanent cosmetic banners.
Myriad can award character skins, weapon appearance skins, accessories, and other visual items. These rewards do not unlock a combat character or combat weapon.
The documented rules include:
- A Purple-tier-or-higher item is guaranteed within 10 pulls.
- A Golden-tier item is guaranteed within 90 pulls.
- Event-exclusive and standard-banner pity counters are separate.
- Pity does not carry between different banners.
- A Golden result may be the featured skin or an Iridescent Prism.
- Iridescent Prisms can be exchanged for featured cosmetics.
Check the banner-details screen before pulling because it displays the relevant counters and exchange information. More details are available in Game8’s Myriad guide.
The main progression loop: Secret Letter Clues to rewards
The central acquisition chain is:
Secret Letter Clues → Secret Letters → Covert Commission rewards → Thoughts, blueprints, or weapon parts
You earn Secret Letter Clues through ordinary play, including quests, missions, events, achievements, and other activities. The standard exchange rate is 10 Secret Letter Clues for one Secret Letter.
Use these menus to access the system:
- Shop → Secret Letters: purchase a Letter and choose a category such as Characters, Weapons, or Demon Wedges.
- Combat → Covert Commissions: select the relevant Letter and run the commission.
A Secret Letter does not directly grant the named character or weapon. It changes the reward pool for the Covert Commission you are about to complete.
That difference explains why a Letter can feel similar to a banner ticket at first glance, while functioning very differently in practice: it targets gameplay rewards, and you still have to complete the associated activity and select useful results.
How to unlock characters
Story and quest rewards
Not every character must be farmed through Secret Letters. Some join the roster directly through story or quest progression. Documented examples include Outsider, awarded through the Prey VS Hunter quest, while Daphne, Margie, and other early characters can join through the story.
Story progression can also provide weapons, so check quest rewards before spending Clues on an item you may receive naturally.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Secret-Letter characters
For characters obtained through the Letter system:
- Open Shop → Secret Letters.
- Buy the desired character’s Secret Letter with Secret Letter Clues.
- Open Combat → Covert Commissions.
- Select the matching character Letter.
- Clear the commission.
- Choose from the offered reward results.
- Collect that character’s Thoughts.
- Accumulate 30 Thoughts to unlock the character.
After recruitment, additional Thoughts are still useful. They are spent on the character’s Introns, so continuing to farm a character’s Letter is not automatically pointless once the character joins your roster.

Covert Commissions are repeatable farming content
Covert Commissions unlock after the side quest Go, Geniemons!. They appear in the Combat menu and do not consume stamina.
The commission categories are:
- Character
- Weapon
- Demon Wedge
Objective layouts rotate, including hourly objective changes, while the selected Secret Letter determines the relevant reward pool. This makes Commissions repeatable farming activities rather than conventional banner pulls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe reward-selection RNG
Completing a commission does not automatically grant the character or weapon named on the Letter. The run presents a selection of reward results—commonly three choices—and you choose what to claim.
Depending on the commission, those choices can include character Thoughts, weapon blueprints, or weapon components. Valuable Gold-tier results are not guaranteed on every run, so you can experience dry streaks while chasing the final Thoughts or a missing weapon part.
Some players have reported hard guarantees for certain Gold rewards, but those reports are community-sourced rather than clearly documented in publicly accessible official patch notes. Treat them as useful player information, not a universal official rule.
Character progression after unlocking a character
Obtaining a character is only one part of progression. Characters advance through several separate systems:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Character level
- Ascension
- Skills
- Introns
- Demon Wedges
- Weapon levels and weapon-specific upgrades
Characters gain experience through combat and commissions, but Character EXP Materials are the primary leveling method. When a character reaches the current level cap, Ascension raises the level and skill ceilings, increases base stats, and increases Demon Wedge tolerance.

- Versatile compatibility: supports Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X/S consoles and PC Win10 and above (including the game platform Steam).
- Precise control: features Hall joysticks and Hall triggers for a comfortable feeling, long service life and improved game accuracy.
- Plug and Play Convenience: Wired USB connection (removable) for easy setup and instant play without the need for additional drivers.
- Customizable experience: Includes 2 custom backbuttons that allow users to eliminate false triggers and improve their gaming experience.
- Impressive gameplay: Provides a pulsating vibration trigger and an asymmetric vibration grip motor for intense tactile feedback.
The documented maximum is six Ascensions and character level 80 at Trial Rank 60. Ascension availability is tied to Trial Rank, so unlocking a character does not mean you can immediately raise that character to the account’s eventual maximum.
Introns
Introns are permanent, character-specific upgrades. They can improve stats, skills, or other effects and require additional Thoughts for that character. The initial 30 Thoughts unlock the character; later Thoughts are used for Intron nodes.
How weapons are obtained and forged
Weapons do not use the character Thoughts system. Most farmable weapons require a blueprint, weapon components, crafting materials, and Coins before they can be forged.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Typical component requirements vary by category. Melee weapons generally use a blueprint plus parts such as a Blade and Grip. Ranged weapons may require parts such as a Bolt, Frame, and Barrel.
The practical process is:
- Buy or obtain the appropriate weapon Secret Letter.
- Use it in a Weapon Covert Commission.
- Select blueprint or component rewards when they appear.
- Open the Forge through the Sanctuary blacksmith or the relevant Forge interface.
- Supply the blueprint, components, materials, and Coins.
- Forge the weapon.
- Level and Ascend it through Armoury.
A blueprint alone is not the finished weapon. If the Forge will not let you craft an item, check for missing components or intermediate materials before assuming the weapon is bugged or unavailable.
To upgrade a weapon, the documented menu path is Armoury → select a character → select the weapon type → Upgrade. Choose the required materials and levels, then confirm the upgrade. Weapons can be equipped by different characters, so a weapon is not necessarily an exclusive signature item. Character proficiency and Demon Wedge choices still determine whether it fits a particular build.

Demon Wedges are the build-customization layer
Demon Wedges modify both characters and weapons. They are separate from the character and weapon acquisition systems, but they are important for optimizing a build.
Equip them through:
Armoury → select a character or weapon → Demon Wedge button → search for or drag a compatible Wedge into an empty slot
Keep these restrictions in mind:
- Character and weapon Demon Wedges are separate.
- A Wedge must be compatible with the selected character or weapon.
- Each Wedge has a Tolerance value.
- Characters and weapons have Tolerance Limits.
- Your loadout cannot exceed the applicable Tolerance Limit.
- Matching a Wedge’s Track to the slot reduces its tolerance load.
- Mismatching the Track increases the load.
- Leveling and Ascension raise tolerance and can unlock additional slots.
Gold Demon Wedges require blueprints and can be forged. Once a Gold Wedge reaches its normal level cap, it can be amplified with duplicates or Amplification Stimulators. Amplification improves its stats but also increases its Tolerance value, so the strongest possible Wedge loadout is not always the most practical one.
Details and menu guidance are listed in Game8’s Demon Wedge guide.
Trial Rank is the main account gate
Trial Rank controls access to higher character and weapon Ascensions, additional Secret Letters, and other systems. It is therefore a more important early-game priority than simply saving Clues for a favorite character.
Documented Secret Letter shop gates include Trial Ranks such as 15, 20, 29, 34, 35, 36, 38, 45, 50, and 60, depending on the specific item.
This creates an important situation: you may have enough Secret Letter Clues to target a character or weapon but still be unable to purchase its Letter because your Trial Rank is too low.
Best Value
- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
A sensible early progression order is:
- Advance the main story and feature-unlocking quests.
- Raise Trial Rank.
- Unlock Covert Commissions and the relevant shop categories.
- Farm Secret Letter Clues.
- Spend Letters on the character, weapon, or Wedge you want.
- Invest leveling and Ascension materials selectively rather than spreading them across the entire roster.
Rotating rewards and update availability
Some high-value Secret Letters are temporarily featured in Immersive Theatre or Nocturnal Echoes before rotating elsewhere. A reward leaving a featured table does not necessarily make it permanently missable or paid-only. It may later enter the Secret Letter Shop or another acquisition route.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

However, timing still matters. Newly released characters and weapons may first appear through an event or featured activity and only become available through a permanent free route after a later update phase. “Free to unlock” does not always mean “available in the permanent shop on patch day.”
Check the current in-game reward preview before spending Letters or entering a weekly mode. Rotation schedules and reset times can change. One early guide documents a weekly dungeon reset at Monday 05:00 UTC+8, but the activity interface is the safer source for the current schedule.
What changed in version 1.5.0?

Common misconceptions
“There are no pulls in Duet Night Abyss.”
Incorrect. Myriad is a cosmetic pull system with rarity tiers, pity, limited banners, and duplicate conversion. What the game removed was gameplay-character and combat-weapon gacha.
“Every character is immediately available from the shop.”
Incorrect. Some characters are story rewards, some are gated by Trial Rank, some are introduced through rotating activities, and newly released characters may reach permanent free acquisition only after their update phases.
“One Secret Letter guarantees the character.”
Incorrect. A Letter targets a Covert Commission reward pool. You must complete the commission, select rewards, and accumulate 30 Thoughts for the character unlock.
“More Letters are pointless after unlocking a character.”
Incorrect. Additional Thoughts can be spent on Introns and further character upgrades.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall“A weapon blueprint gives you the weapon.”
Incorrect. The blueprint is one crafting requirement. You also need the relevant components, materials, and Coins before forging the weapon.
“There is no RNG anywhere in progression.”
Incorrect. Character and weapon ownership are not banner-gated, but commission reward selection is random enough to create dry streaks.
“Rerolling is necessary.”
That advice is outdated for the current system. There are no character or weapon banners to reroll for, and rerolling cannot produce a stronger random starting roster or signature weapon in the conventional gacha sense.
“The game has no time gates.”
That is too broad. There is no stamina or Sanergy bar limiting ordinary farming, but Trial Rank, story progression, weekly activities, event phases, rotating rewards, and reset schedules still affect when content becomes available.
