You can build three golems in vanilla Minecraft: iron, snow, and copper. In each case, arrange the body blocks first and place the pumpkin head last to create the mob. These are in-world builds, not crafting-table recipes.

How to make an iron golem
- Gather four iron blocks and one carved pumpkin. Mojang’s later feature article also identifies a jack o’lantern as a valid head.
- Place three iron blocks in a horizontal row.
- Place the fourth iron block beneath the middle block of that row, making a T.
- Place the carved pumpkin or jack o’lantern on the top-center block. The pumpkin head completes the build. Mojang’s beginner guide shows the four-block T recipe.
Building one yourself is not the only way to encounter an iron golem: Mojang says they can also be found in villages and at pillager outposts.
How to make a snow golem
- Gather two snow blocks and a carved pumpkin or jack o’lantern.
- Stack the two snow blocks vertically.
- Place the pumpkin or jack o’lantern on top, last, to create the snow golem. This recipe and placement order are documented in the Minecraft Wiki’s snow golem entry.
The referenced construction details come from a community wiki, rather than an official Minecraft recipe page, so they should not be treated as a version-by-version official specification.
How to make a copper golem
- Gather one copper block and a carved pumpkin or jack o’lantern.
- Place the copper block.
- Place the pumpkin or jack o’lantern directly on top to create the copper golem. Mojang’s Java Edition 1.21.9 release notes specify this build.
Copper golems oxidize over time. Mojang’s Java 1.21.9 notes say waxing protects them from oxidation; a fully oxidized copper golem that has not been waxed becomes a statue. The Copper Age update is available in both Java and Bedrock, and copper golems can sort items from copper chests into regular chests.

Can you summon a golem with a command?
Yes, in Bedrock Edition you can use /summon as an alternative to building, but cheats must be enabled. Microsoft Learn gives this named iron golem example:
