For a convenient first base, a June 2025 guide recommends rocky ground near the Tradepost in Hagga Basin South. For a more permanent home, it points to Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub. Neither is an official ranking, and the best choice depends on your stage of progression, access to resources and tolerance for risk. Wherever you build, avoid open sand and worm territory, and keep your base powered so its shield can protect it from environmental damage.

How to choose a base location

Compare candidate sites by how well they fit your current needs, rather than looking for one universally best spot. A location that shortens early resource runs may be less useful later than one with central access to several activities.

  • Progression stage: Decide whether you need an accessible first base or a more central long-term hub.
  • Access: Consider distance to crafting and trade, caves, resource deposits and other activities you use often.
  • Buildable terrain: Prefer rocky ground over open desert, and stay clear of worm territory. Funcom warns that bases or foundations on open sand risk sandworm attacks. Funcom’s base-building guidance also covers environmental protection.
  • Water and materials: Check what is nearby before committing; a convenient location should support the resources you routinely gather.
  • Neighbors and risk: Consider nearby claims and whether the area’s PvP and environmental hazards suit your play style.

Recommended locations

These are suggestions from a PC Gamer guide published June 9, 2025, not an official or current comparative ranking. Check the terrain, build permissions and resource availability in your game before settling.

Goal Suggested location Why it may fit Trade-offs and checks
Early-game convenience Rocky ground below the Tradepost in Hagga Basin South The guide highlights nearby caves, a shipwreck and an Imperial Testing Station, with the Tradepost and activities supporting early gathering and progression. Nearby neighbors may be an issue, and the recommendation may have become stale since June 2025. Confirm the site is still buildable and useful.
More permanent central base Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub The guide cites nearby caves, a shipwreck, an Imperial Testing Station, Carbon Ore and other metals, plus a short ride to a Tradepost. This is editorial advice, not an official ranking. Verify current terrain, build permissions and resource spawns.
Deep Desert base Choose only if you accept the instance’s risks Deep Desert instances offer separate PvE and PvP choices; the PvP instance has a 2.5x multiplier to mining yield and spice harvesting, according to Funcom. Funcom advises avoiding the PvP side if your aim is to reduce base-raiding risk. Environmental storms can still threaten bases.

Build for survival, not just size

Keep an early base compact

A June 2025 PC Gamer guide recommends a modest first base with room for essential stations, then small outposts when travel from your main base becomes inconvenient. It also recommends reusable blueprints for outposts if the Solido Replicator and relevant unlock are available. Confirm the current unlock path in game before planning around it. Protect the sub-fief and power supply

Funcom says an empty fuel supply stops the generator and disables the shield that protects structures from environmental damage. Sandstorms can damage powered-down bases in Hagga Basin and the Deep Desert. Check the sub-fief for power and fuel, and pay attention to the approach notification showing remaining power. Keep the sub-fief console on a foundation, enclose it, and grant permissions only to trusted players. Funcom’s base-building guidance explains these precautions.

Deep Desert: choose PvE or PvP deliberately

On official worlds, PvP is optional. Hagga Basin has no PvP on official servers as of patch 1.3.20.0. To enter the Deep Desert, use the Overland map and select a PvE or PvP instance before entering. Funcom says the PvP instance offers a 2.5x multiplier to mining yield and spice harvesting; it also advises avoiding that side if you want to reduce the chance of base raiding. Funcom says core gameplay systems and resources remain accessible through PvE activities. See Funcom’s Basics of PvP page for the current official-world context.

How to move a base with the Base Reconstruction Tool

The Base Reconstruction Tool stores an eligible base and its contents for relocation, but it is not a way to move every part of a settlement or bypass placement rules. Funcom’s Base Reconstruction Tool guidance states the following constraints:

  • Research the tool in Iron Tier under Construction; craft it at a Fabricator or Survival Fabricator.
  • Only the owner can access stored bases. A player can store up to three owned bases.
  • After storing and placing a particular base, wait seven days before using the tool on that same base again.
  • Reconstruction works only in Hagga Basin. A base with an Advanced Sub-fief Console cannot be placed in Hagga Basin South.
  • The destination cannot overlap another landclaim or a no-building zone. Players occupying the destination claim and overlapping vehicles can also prevent placement.
  • The sub-fief console must be on a foundation, and all attached buildables must fit within the sub-fief limits.
  • Assembled vehicles and extra permissions are not stored with the base.

Funcom’s update index records a building update on October 7, 2025, and the Base Reconstruction feature’s arrival on December 16, 2025. See the official updates index for dated update context; it is not a complete list of current patch changes.
