Dune: Awakening’s Chapter 2 update was released on September 9, 2025, and its free trial ran August 20–24, 2025. The trial is over. Chapter 2 itself was a free update; The Lost Harvest was separate paid DLC. By September 2026, the game had expanded to include a full single-player mode and the conclusion of Book One’s story.
When did Dune: Awakening Chapter 2 come out?
Funcom originally announced September 10, 2025, for Chapter 2, then moved the release forward to September 9. The update was described as the game’s first major content update. Funcom’s official game announcements and its official trailer description give the historical dates; the announcement page’s indexed text is the basis for the update details.
When was the free trial, and is it available now?
The announced trial ran from August 20 through August 24, 2025. That window has expired, so it should not be treated as a current way to play for free. The official material described access as offering, in almost every respect, what the full game offered, but did not establish exact restrictions, eligibility rules, or whether trial progress carried over.
Was Chapter 2 free, and what was paid?
Chapter 2 was announced as a free content update. The Lost Harvest was separate paid DLC, announced at $12.99 in 2025; that is historical announcement pricing, not a verified current price.

What Chapter 2 added
Funcom described story content and new gameplay options, including dynamic encounters, character appearance recustomization, a new Landsraad system, missions and rewards, and quality-of-life improvements.
What The Lost Harvest included
The separate DLC was described as adding the BDX 8 Harvester Ornithopter, plus its own story and activity content. The announcement’s accessible text supports these broad details, not a more granular feature list.

How the game changed after Chapter 2
Chapter 2 is no longer the latest defining milestone. In a September 2026 announcement, Funcom described the game as having gained a full single-player mode, adjustable gameplay settings such as harvesting rates, death penalties and experience gain, and the conclusion of Book One’s story. It also summarized changes made over the preceding 15 months: optional PvP, separate PvE and PvP Deep Desert instances, base and vehicle recovery systems, reduced death penalties, and an endgame rebuilt around missions and faction progression. The announcement also lists additional maps, dungeons, weapons, dynamic encounters, Augmentations and Specializations.
As of that September 2026 announcement, Dune: Awakening was available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The console release date was September 22, 2026, with earlier access for Deluxe and Ultimate edition owners. The announcement said cross-play was planned post-launch; that is a dated plan, not confirmation of its current status. Bandai Namco’s September 2026 release announcement also says the physical PS5 edition includes a disc. Distribution varies by region: Bandai Namco Entertainment covers Europe, Australia and New Zealand; Solutions 2 GO covers the Americas; and Spike Chunsoft covers Japan.

Is Dune: Awakening free to play?
The Chapter 2 update was free for owners of the game, but that did not make Dune: Awakening a free-to-play game. The free trial was a limited August 2025 promotion, not an ongoing access option. Check the relevant platform store for current availability and pricing rather than relying on the historical DLC price or expired trial announcement.
