Dune: Awakening is no longer an upcoming MMO: it launched on PC in June 2025, then arrived on PlayStation 5 and Xbox on 22 September 2026. The console launch brought a single-player mode and the conclusion to Book One; Funcom says PvP is optional. Here’s what the launch and DLC announcements actually establish—and what they don’t.
When did Dune: Awakening launch?
The game released on PC in June 2025. Its PlayStation 5 and Xbox launch followed on 22 September 2026, alongside a major update also available on PC. The date and platform rollout are confirmed in Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s launch announcement and Xbox Wire’s launch coverage.

Calling it simply an “upcoming MMO” is now out of date, and it can also obscure the ways the game can be played. Official descriptions present Dune: Awakening as an open-world survival game with solo and multiplayer options, PvE play, and optional PvP—not a game that requires every player to engage in PvP.
What changed with the console launch?
The 22 September update added a full single-player mode, detailed gameplay customization, difficulty options, and the conclusion to Book One. Funcom’s announcement says the game can be played entirely in PvE, with PvP optional.

Xbox Wire’s launch article also describes a complete story run, a mission-driven Landsraad endgame, character specializations and augmentations, additional mission locations, improved combat, and ways to carry characters, backed-up bases, and vehicles between worlds. These are the publisher’s descriptions of the update, rather than independent assessments of how those features perform.
Which platforms and editions are available?
As of the console launch on 22 September 2026, the game was available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. A physical PS5 edition was also announced for retail and online sale. Distribution varies by region:

- 86 new cards
- 9 new Leaders
- EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand: Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe.
- The Americas: Solutions 2 GO.
- Japan: Spike Chunsoft, with an announced release date of 29 October 2026.
That Japan date was later than the general console launch date. Retail stock and release timing can vary, so check a current listing for your region before buying a physical copy. Xbox Wire’s advance launch article provides the earlier platform and edition context.
What is the Filmic Archive DLC?
Filmic Archive launched across platforms on 22 September 2026. Funcom described it as a collection of film-inspired outfits and armor, weapons, emotes, decorative content, and 73 Sardaukar building pieces. Its launch announcement listed the price as $9.99; that is the announced price, not a guarantee of the current price in every region or store.

What did Funcom say about future updates?
In Xbox Wire’s 22 September 2026 article, Funcom Senior Marketing Manager Oscar Guardiola Serra wrote: “Every aspect of the game can now be played entirely in PvE.” The same article said the Polar Cap would arrive “later this year” as a free update and described full cross-play as coming after the console launch, with details to follow.
Rank #4
- Step into the world of Dune and explore an immersive, open world Arrakis, from sandworm-infested deserts to the sprawling city of Arrakeen
- Experience a unique, cinematic Dune story that gives clear meaning and purpose to your otherwise freeform survival crafting journey
- From the slow blade to epic firepower, train and progress as a Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, Trooper, and Mentat to unlock their signature weapons and abilities
- Rise from survival to greatness as you grow your own piece of Arrakis from a modest crafting base into a sprawling fortress, or secure your fortune by chasing spice blows and running your own spice-refining operation
- Play single-player and customize every aspect of your experience, or go online to team up with friends on private or public multiplayer servers
Those were plans stated on 22 September 2026, not confirmation that either feature has since shipped or remains scheduled on that timeline. Check the Xbox Wire launch article alongside current official announcements for their latest status.
Earlier roadmap language needs the same date context. A Chapter 3 announcement dated 18 December 2025 said a free update and paid Raiders of the Broken Lands DLC were expected in early 2026. That was a historical expectation; it should not be read as a current upcoming-release date.

- This expansion adds two new houses to Dune: The Ecaz and the Moritani
- It also adds in new game mechanics: Homeworlds allow you to conduct raids on the homeworlds of other factions and destroy their spice stockpiles.
- Nexus Cards provide players with incentives and special effects for not joining and alliace. Discovery Tokens add new elements to the game on sections of the board that are often bypassed and don't see much action.

What can be verified about the Gamescom director interview?
The Gamescom 2025 interview listing names producer Nils Ryborg and production director Ole Andreas. Its description says the discussion covered Chapter 2, The Lost Harvest, and future plans. The listing does not provide a transcript, so it does not support attributing a particular quote or specific launch forecast to either interviewee.
The original “director talks launch and DLC drops” framing should therefore be treated cautiously: the verifiable material establishes who was listed and the broad topics, not the precise statements made in the video. The IGN Gamescom 2025 listing is the source for that limited description.
