Funcom announced on June 4, 2025, that players could rent Dune: Awakening private servers starting with the game’s June 5 paid-edition head start—earlier than the previously announced post-launch timing. The game’s official launch followed on June 10, so “at launch” here means the head start, not June 10 alone.
When did Dune: Awakening private servers launch?
Private-server rentals became available on June 5, 2025, when the paid-edition head start began. Funcom said development had progressed faster than expected, allowing the feature to arrive sooner than previously communicated. The June 4 announcement preceded that availability by one day.

Funcom’s release notice listed the Steam unlock time as 16:00 CEST / 10am EDT on both June 5 for head start and June 10 for the official launch. Those are historical release times, not current schedules. Funcom’s announcement and release information establish the dates.
How private are the private servers?
A rented server is not a completely isolated Dune universe. Funcom said each private server is part of a larger World that includes other private servers rented by other players. Players retain access to large-scale multiplayer features, including social hubs and the Deep Desert, across servers within the same World. A private server therefore gives a group its own server experience, but not private control over every shared feature or area.

How do rentals and prices work?
Players rent through hosting providers listed by Funcom. The company stated in its June 4, 2025 announcement: “Funcom does not set the prices for private server rental.” Check providers directly for current prices, availability, regions, rental terms, and server settings; the announcement does not establish today’s rates or availability.

By September 2026, official material described single-player, private-server play with friends, and large-scale official servers as ways to play. Funcom’s Steam announcement feed reported that console versions launched on September 22, 2026, and said cross-play was not available at that time.
