Dune: Awakening is available on PS5, and you can play the complete game solo or join multiplayer. If this is your first survival game, start by following the tutorial and story prompts: they introduce the core systems as you learn to manage thirst, deal with Arrakis’s hazards, and build toward a base. You do not need to arrive with a memorized recipe list or a perfect base plan.
What to do first on Arrakis
- Follow the tutorial and story prompts. Funcom says the game uses tutorials, reminders, and a narrative thread to teach its systems. Use those instructions rather than treating the opening as an unguided sandbox. The PlayStation Blog’s PS5 overview describes how the game eases players into its core elements.
- Pay attention to thirst. Water is a basic survival concern. The PlayStation listing describes extracting liquid from enemies and refining it into water; treat the in-game prompts as your guide to the current process and available equipment.
- Read the terrain and react to hazards. Stick to rocky ground to help avoid sandworms, seek shade, and hide when a sandstorm approaches. Enemies and the environment are part of the survival challenge, not just obstacles to fight.
- Learn tools and abilities as they become available. The game’s progression introduces survival tools, weapons, and abilities. Let the tutorial and your current objectives show you what to use next instead of relying on a fixed opening route.
- Build toward a base as progression allows. A base is a practical home for crafting and production systems. Expect to expand its capabilities over time rather than having every machine available immediately.
Funcom’s survival overview specifically calls out thirst, rocky ground, sandworms, and taking shelter from sandstorms. It establishes those principles, but not exact hydration thresholds, item recipes, hazard schedules, or a prescribed opening route.

Choose solo or multiplayer based on how you want to play
The complete game and story are playable in single-player; you do not have to join a group to experience them. Multiplayer offers the option to play with friends or on public servers. According to the publisher and platform launch information, PvP is optional in multiplayer, and single-player has no PvP. The PlayStation listing also notes that online features require a PlayStation account and are subject to PlayStation terms and privacy policy.

How crafting and your first base fit together
Think of your first base as a place to support progression: it gives you room for crafting infrastructure and production systems as you advance. PlayStation describes personal bases ranging from small outposts to large strongholds, with crafting machines and spice refineries; Funcom also describes claiming territory and building a base of operations.
Production infrastructure grows with progression. The systems named in official descriptions include fabricators, refineries, power generators, and wind and water machinery. You can also craft survival gadgets and vehicles. These are systems to work toward, not a promise that every machine or recipe is available at the start.

The full game, with all its features, content and story, is available regardless of which mode you choose. Both single-player and private multiplayer servers offer extensive customization options, allowing you to scale difficulty and tune gameplay options however you like.
There is no verified universal starter layout
The official sources do not establish a best first-base location, mandatory footprint, exact resource costs, or a validated recipe-by-recipe build order. Use objectives and current in-game requirements to decide what to construct next, and choose a location based on the game’s present guidance rather than copying an unverified coordinate or layout.
Base-saving and loss protections have changed, and reconstruction behavior depends on mode and current implementation. If you need to know what happens to a particular structure after a loss, check the current in-game interface or applicable patch notes before acting; the launch announcements are not a complete procedural guide.

PS5 options and performance modes
The PlayStation Store lists adjustable difficulty, control reminders, and tutorial reminders. If an instruction slips by or you want to tune the challenge, these are useful options to revisit in the game.

PS5 release and edition
Dune: Awakening launched on PS5 on September 22, 2026. A physical PS5 edition is also available through retail and online channels, with distribution varying by region: Bandai Namco Entertainment handles EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand; Solutions 2 GO handles the Americas; and Spike Chunsoft handles Japan. Check local availability and the relevant regional listing before choosing an edition.
