Metacritic’s PC aggregate is 75/100 from 17 critic reviews; Steam’s English user-review snapshot was 92% positive from 4,965 reviews when retrieved in 2026. The game’s appeal rests on how well its two modes and comic tone work for you—and whether its real-time pressure feels exciting or rushed.
What kind of game is Dungeons 3?
Developed by Realmforge Studios and published by Kalypso Media, Dungeons 3 combines building and managing an underground dungeon with real-time strategy missions in the overworld. You develop rooms, manage minions and traps, then take the action outside the dungeon. Its presentation mixes dark fantasy and comedy, including a narrator-led style. Steam’s game listing describes the game and identifies its developer and publisher.
That two-part structure is central to the reviews: the dungeon offers the management side, while the overworld adds a more direct RTS pace. Whether the shift feels like welcome variety or an interruption is a useful question to consider when judging the game’s fit.
What do the reviews say?
Critics: generally favorable, with a limited sample
Metacritic lists a PC Metascore of 75/100, based on 17 critic reviews: 12 positive, five mixed and none negative. It labels the reception “Generally Favorable.” That is a favorable overall signal, but it represents a relatively small critic sample for a game released in 2017, not a universal verdict. Metacritic’s PC critic page provides the aggregate and review excerpts.

The excerpts emphasize refinement and straightforward fun. Metacritic reproduces Hooked Gamers’ October 16, 2017 assessment: “Easily the most polished and refined Dungeons game to date and Evily as good as the game that started the genre 20 years ago.” It also reproduces GameWatcher’s October 13, 2017 description of the game as “plain, straight, addictive fun from start to finish.” These are the publications’ judgments, not a substitute for considering the design trade-offs.
Players: a positive but time-sensitive snapshot
Steam showed 92% positive among 4,965 English-language user reviews when retrieved in 2026. That user score reflects a different population from Metacritic’s critic aggregate, and review totals and sentiment can change. Steam also presents a separate recent-review summary, which is more volatile; check the live listing if current player feedback matters to your decision. What might you enjoy—or find frustrating?
The management-and-RTS mix
The main draw is the contrast between tending a dungeon and directing forces in the overworld. If you enjoy building rooms, managing minions and setting traps, the dungeon side supplies a clear management focus; the RTS missions add a different kind of activity. If you mainly want an uninterrupted construction simulation, the shifts between modes may be less appealing.
Pace and pressure
Some review commentary raises the possibility that real-time demands can make the player feel pressured to rush. That is the key trade-off: urgency can keep the overworld action lively, but it may be unwelcome if you prefer to plan at your own pace. The available excerpt does not identify the speaker, so this is best treated as a reported criticism rather than a named critic’s quotation.

Tone and presentation
Comedy, dark fantasy and a narrator-led presentation are part of the game’s stated identity. That tone is a selling point if you want strategy wrapped in irreverent fantasy; it may be less suited to players looking for a serious or restrained atmosphere.
What is included in Dungeons 3 Complete Collection?
Metacritic describes the Complete Collection as the base game, free content updates and seven expansion packs, and lists June 26, 2020 as the collection’s initial release date. Metacritic’s game page provides the collection summary. Check the listing for your chosen platform before buying: the exact edition and included content should be verified on that storefront rather than assumed to be identical everywhere.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should play Dungeons 3?
- Consider it if you want a strategy game that alternates between dungeon management and overworld RTS, and you enjoy a comic dark-fantasy tone.
- Look more closely at recent player feedback if pacing is your main concern; Steam’s recent-review summary can change over time.
- Compare editions on your platform if you want the expansion packs, because the Complete Collection’s described bundle should be checked against the specific storefront listing.
For a PC player, the critic aggregate and Steam snapshot point in a favorable direction, while the most relevant caveat is whether the RTS pace and pressure suit your preferences. Those signals are helpful context, not a guarantee that the two-mode structure or humor will work for every player.
