The suspect has not been named, and the public statements do not establish that he personally hacked Rockstar Games. This is a separate case from the 2022 Grand Theft Auto VI footage leak.
Who was arrested over the Rockstar hack?
Dutch National Police arrested the man during a national investigation into ShinyHunters. The police release describes him as a 24-year-old from Amsterdam suspected of playing a role in the group, and says officers seized data carriers. It does not name him. The FBI later described the arrested person as one of the group’s alleged leaders, but also did not identify him. Dutch National Police announcement · FBI announcement

The arrest is an allegation under investigation, not a conviction. Dutch police said on 29 September that the suspect would remain in pre-trial detention for at least 90 more days while the investigation continued. The same police release mentions a separate suspicion that he attempted to solicit two murders, but explicitly says it is unrelated to the ShinyHunters investigation.
Did the FBI arrest the Rockstar hacker?
No: Dutch National Police executed the arrest under Dutch law. The FBI announced it and said it supported its partners. FBI Cyber Division Assistant Director Brett Leatherman put it plainly: “The arrest was executed by our partners at the Dutch National Police.”

The FBI’s statement connects the suspect to alleged ShinyHunters leadership; it does not announce a Rockstar-specific charge or say that authorities have established his personal role in the Rockstar incident. The Dutch release likewise describes an investigation into the group, rather than a finding that this suspect carried out a particular breach.
What was the 2026 Rockstar incident?
GamesRadar+ reported in September 2026 that ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for a Rockstar hack in April of that year. The outlet quoted Rockstar as saying that “a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach” and that the incident had “no impact on our organization or our players.” Those are Rockstar’s characterizations as quoted in that report; they are distinct from the hackers’ claim and from the FBI’s allegations about ShinyHunters more broadly. The public statements cited here do not quantify the Rockstar incident’s losses or establish that the suspect was personally responsible for it. The FBI said ShinyHunters and co-conspirators were alleged to have targeted more than 140 organizations and extorted at least $70 million since 2025. Those are group-wide allegations, not figures for Rockstar alone.
