If dvbinterface.dll was not found, dvbinterface.dll could not be loaded, or Windows says the file is missing, the affected program is usually an old DVB Workshop installation. The safest fix is to identify that installation and repair or reinstall it from its original installer or a trusted backup.
The errors you may see
Public DLL indexes list error examples such as:
- “This application failed to start because dvbinterface.dll was not found.”
- “The file dvbinterface.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: dvbinterface.dll. Please install the application again.”
- “Error loading dvbinterface.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
- “dvbinterface.dll was not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Cannot register dvbinterface.dll.”
These are general indexed examples, not confirmed support messages from DVB Workshop. The wording still helps identify which repair path to use.
The 60-second answer
dvbinterface.dll is an application DLL whose internal description is DVBInterface. Public file metadata associates it with DVB Workshop and tentatively attributes that program to DVinGena. It is not a normal Windows component, DirectX file, Microsoft runtime, or device-driver file.
Do this first:
- Find the DVB Workshop installer, installation media, or a trusted backup.
- Run the installer and choose Repair, Change, or reinstall the program.
- Check Windows Security quarantine before copying anything manually.
- Keep the restored DLL beside the DVB Workshop executable, not in
C:WindowsSystem32. - If the program is obsolete and no legitimate installer remains, uninstall it or remove its stale startup entry rather than downloading a random DLL.
No verified current official DVB Workshop download page was located. Do not treat a third-party DLL download page as an official source.

What dvbinterface.dll belongs to
The file name and internal description identify a library called DVBInterface. Available historical metadata associates it with DVB Workshop, an old Windows application. The developer field is inconsistent: some metadata attributes the file to DVinGena, but that attribution has not been independently confirmed.
The available metadata reports the file as a Win32, 32-bit DLL, with a historical version and size. Another index labels it as x64, so do not rely on an online listing to determine the architecture of the exact file you have. Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect its details. A PE inspection utility can provide a more reliable architecture reading.
Windows does not normally supply this file. A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit application, but that does not make a 32-bit application DLL a 64-bit file. A 32-bit DVB Workshop installation generally needs its x86 dependencies.

If the message includes a path, note it carefully. A path such as:
C:Program Files (x86)DVB Workshopdvbinterface.dll
shows the expected application directory. A path involving a temporary folder, an unfamiliar game, or an unrecognized executable requires more investigation.
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that dvbinterface.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the named DLL but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Check the shortcut
- Right-click the DVB Workshop shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for
dvbinterface.dllbeside the executable.
Do not move the DLL to match the shortcut. The correct location is normally the application’s own installation directory.

Check Windows logs
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
eventvwr.msc. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the program failed.
- Read the Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
This can distinguish DVB Workshop from another old application that happens to display the same missing-file message.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall DVB Workshop
This is the most likely solution because the DLL appears to be private to the application.

- Locate the original setup file, installation disc, deployment folder, or trusted backup.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify if offered.
- Keep the original installation directory unless you have a specific reason to change it.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Start DVB Workshop from its normal shortcut.
If the installer offers only Install, reinstall the program into the same location. Avoid installing a single DLL separately. The installer may also restore configuration files, registry entries, prerequisites, and other libraries that the application needs.

Check the result
After installation, open the program directory and confirm that dvbinterface.dll is beside the DVB Workshop executable. Then launch the program normally.
If the same error remains:
- Confirm that the shortcut points to the newly installed executable.
- Check whether antivirus quarantined the restored file.
- Verify that the error names DVB Workshop rather than a different executable.
- Look for a second installation in another folder.
- Check whether the installer completed without reporting an error.
If the original installer is damaged, obtain another copy from the same legitimate media source or restore the complete application directory from a trusted backup.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an old DLL, particularly when the file is unsigned, obsolete, or bundled with an unfamiliar application.
Windows Security steps
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Choose Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time DVB Workshop stopped working.
- Expand an entry involving DVB Workshop or
dvbinterface.dll.
Restore the file only if you can verify that it came from the original DVB Workshop installer or a trusted backup. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can expose the device if the file is actually malicious.
If the file came from an unofficial DLL download, do not restore or whitelist it. Remove it and obtain the complete application from legitimate installation media instead. If Defender repeatedly removes the original file, scan the installer and contact the software provider if a verifiable support channel exists.
Fix 3: Reinstall the application’s real dependencies
A missing dependency can produce the misleading message “The specified module could not be found.” In that situation, dvbinterface.dll may already be present, but Windows cannot load it because another library is absent.
Inspect the application directory and the full error message for names such as:
MSVCP*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dllD3DX*.dllXINPUT*.dll
Only install a Microsoft runtime when the error actually identifies that runtime or the original installer requires it.

Do not install Visual C++ or DirectX packages merely because the file name contains “interface” or because the application is old.
Fix 4: Verify compatibility and architecture
Older DVB software may fail on current Windows because of an incompatible binary, old installer, missing prerequisite, or obsolete system integration.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run compatibility troubleshooter.
- Apply the recommended settings.
- Test the application.
- If necessary, return to the tab and enable Run this program as an administrator.
Do not use compatibility mode to disguise a missing DLL. It can help an old program start, but it cannot recreate an absent file or repair a broken dependency chain.
If the file is present, verify that it belongs to the same DVB Workshop release as the executable. Mixing a DLL from another release can cause:
- Entry-point errors
- “Not designed to run on Windows” messages
- Crashes during startup
- Incorrect behavior after the window opens
“Not designed to run on Windows” commonly indicates corruption, an incompatible binary, or a bad dependency. It does not prove that Windows needs a replacement system DLL.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the error identifies one
dvbinterface.dll is not identified as a normal device-driver file. Reinstalling a graphics, tuner, audio, or chipset driver will not normally restore an application-private DLL.
Driver repair becomes relevant if Event Viewer or the application error names a specific device, driver, or hardware component.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Network adapters.
- Right-click the named device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General and Driver tabs.
- Use Update driver or uninstall and reinstall the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s legitimate support source.
- Restart Windows and test DVB Workshop.
Manually hunting through Device Manager can mean checking many devices and guessing which driver is stale. Outbyte Driver Updater offers a free scan that shows what it identifies; driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling DVB Workshop remains the definitive fix when that program’s own DLL is missing.
Fix 6: Run DISM and SFC as a secondary Windows repair
System File Checker and DISM repair protected Windows components. They are unlikely to recreate dvbinterface.dll, because the file does not appear to be owned by Windows. Run them when other Windows files are also failing or when corruption began after a system problem.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test DVB Workshop again.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC order in its System File Checker instructions.
DISM may report that the restore operation completed successfully, and SFC may report that it found and repaired corrupted files. That confirms Windows component repair, not necessarily restoration of the application DLL.
Repeatedly running these commands without knowing what changed makes diagnosis harder. Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that identifies issues it finds; repairs are performed by the full version. For this file, repairing or reinstalling DVB Workshop is still the definitive fix.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after a program, driver, or Windows change and an appropriate restore point exists.

Why System32, SysWOW64, and regsvr32 are usually wrong
Do not copy it into system folders
C:WindowsSystem32 is not a general-purpose storage location for missing application files. On 64-bit Windows, C:WindowsSysWOW64 is associated with 32-bit system components, but it is not a universal destination for every 32-bit DLL.
Copying dvbinterface.dll into either directory can:
- Leave the actual DVB Workshop directory incomplete
- Hide which application owns the file
- Create version conflicts
- Cause unrelated programs to load the wrong library
- Preserve a malicious or corrupted file
Keep application-private files with the application that supplied them.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not run regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer, normally ActiveX or COM components. There is no evidence that dvbinterface.dll is such a component.
Do not use:
regsvr32 dvbinterface.dll
A “module failed to load” result from regsvr32 does not repair a missing dependency. Microsoft explains the command’s purpose and behavior in its regsvr32 documentation.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
A download page may provide:
- The wrong release
- The wrong architecture
- A modified or infected file
- A file missing its dependencies
- A DLL that does not match the DVB Workshop executable
Even an apparently successful copy may replace one error with an entry-point failure or an application crash. Do not disable antivirus protection to install an unverified DLL, and do not place such a file in both system folders.
The safe sources are the original DVB Workshop installer, legitimate installation media, and a backup whose provenance you can verify. Microsoft’s runtime and DirectX pages are appropriate only when the error identifies one of those Microsoft components.
If DVB Workshop has been removed
If the error appears during Windows startup after you uninstalled DVB Workshop, Windows may be trying to launch a stale shortcut, startup entry, or scheduled task.
Check these locations:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Open Startup apps.
- Disable an entry clearly associated with the removed program.
- Press
Win+R, entertaskschd.msc, and press Enter. - Review Task Scheduler Library for an entry that launches the old DVB Workshop executable.
- Disable or delete it only when you can identify it confidently.
Do not reinstall the DLL just to satisfy a program you no longer use. Removing the stale launch reference is safer.

If no legitimate installer remains
If DVB Workshop is abandoned and you have no original installer, installation media, or trusted backup, there may be no reliable way to reconstruct the application. A DLL from an unrelated download source cannot establish that the file is authentic or compatible.
In that situation:
- Preserve any application data before removing the old program.
- Search your own backups and archived installation media.
- Check whether the original application is still installed in another folder.
- Remove stale startup entries if the program is no longer needed.
- Consider running the legacy application only in a controlled, supported environment if you have legitimate media and compatibility requires it.
Do not claim that the exact DLL is safe or malicious without examining the file and its provenance.

FAQ
Is dvbinterface.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence shows that it ships with Windows. Available metadata associates it with DVB Workshop, so it should normally remain in that application’s directory.
Is dvbinterface.dll malware?
The file name alone cannot establish that. Verify the exact file’s origin, location, signature, and antivirus history. A file from an unofficial DLL download should not be trusted merely because its name matches the error.
Should I download dvbinterface.dll?
No. Repair or reinstall DVB Workshop from its original installer or a trusted backup. A random replacement may be malicious, incompatible, or incomplete.
Should I copy it to System32 or SysWOW64?
Normally, no. Put the vendor-supplied file beside the matching DVB Workshop executable. System folders are usually the wrong destination.
Does regsvr32 fix this file?
Usually not. regsvr32 applies to DLLs designed for COM or ActiveX registration. There is no verified evidence that dvbinterface.dll requires registration.
What does “specified module could not be found” mean?
It can mean that dvbinterface.dll is absent, or that one of its dependencies is absent. Check the application directory, installer logs, and the complete error before replacing anything.
Why does a 32-bit DLL matter on 64-bit Windows?
A 64-bit Windows system can run a 32-bit application, but that application needs compatible 32-bit dependencies. Verify the actual file rather than relying on conflicting online architecture labels.
What if reinstalling DVB Workshop does not help?
Check for antivirus quarantine, multiple installations, a damaged installer, a missing dependency, or an incompatible old program. If no legitimate installer or backup remains, the application may not be reliably repairable on the current system.
