Start with this diagnostic checklist
pa24w9x.dll is a legacy printer-driver file identified as the “panson24 Printer Driver.” If Windows says pa24w9x.dll is missing, not found, corrupted, or could not be loaded, first determine what is requesting it.
- Which program or device triggers the message? Note whether it happens during printer setup, printing, Windows startup, or when opening an unrelated application.
- Is a Panasonic KX-series printer installed? The file is associated with older Panasonic 24-pin printers, including models in the KX-P1123, KX-P1124, KX-P1624, and KX-P2124 families.
- Did the problem begin after a change? Think about removing a printer, reinstalling Windows, updating Windows, running disk cleanup, or an antivirus quarantine event.
- Which Windows architecture are you using? Open Settings > System > About and check System type. A legacy 32-bit driver package may not work on 64-bit Windows or an ARM device.
- Do you still use the printer? If not, the correct fix may be removing a stale printer and driver reference rather than restoring the DLL.
Do not begin by downloading pa24w9x.dll from a random DLL website. The file normally belongs to a complete printer-driver package, where the INF file, architecture, dependencies, and package metadata must match.
What pa24w9x.dll actually is
pa24w9x.dll is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, .NET library, or general-purpose application file. It is a printer-driver module for legacy Panasonic 24-pin hardware.
Historical Windows documentation lists the related PANSON24 driver as Panasonic KX-series printer support. Public driver-package inventories associate the file with prnpa001.inf and related components such as:

.GPDprinter-description files
The “panson24” name appears to be a misspelled or shortened reference to a Panasonic 24-pin printer driver. Public inventories also describe the broader package as part of the Microsoft Windows operating system, while Panasonic is the relevant printer manufacturer.
That distinction matters. Windows may have historically distributed or catalogued the driver, but the file is not a general Windows runtime that every application should need. It is normally relevant when an old printer installation, print spooler operation, or application’s printer integration still refers to the driver.
Exact versions, hashes, sizes, and locations should not be assumed. Public inventories disagree, and the exact path varies by Windows release, architecture, and driver package. Do not assume that the file belongs in C:WindowsSystem32.
Fix 1: Reinstall the affected printer through Windows
This is the fastest and most likely fix when the error appears during printing or printer installation.
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchRemove and add the printer again
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected Panasonic printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart Windows.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Allow Windows to search for the printer.
- Select the printer and complete the installation.
If Windows offers a driver through Windows Update, use that package rather than locating the DLL separately. Microsoft recommends Windows Update and the normal printer-installation workflow as the preferred sources for printer drivers.
If Windows does not find the printer
Confirm that the printer is powered on and connected. For a network printer, verify that the computer and printer are on the same network. For an older USB or parallel-port printer, reconnect the cable and try another port if available.
If the printer appears but installation fails:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Choose Add manually if that option appears.
- Select the appropriate connection method.
- Let Windows search its available driver list.
- Choose a compatible inbox, generic, or manufacturer-provided driver where available.
A modern Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation may not support the original legacy package. If Windows cannot obtain a matching driver, use a current compatible driver or a generic print or IPP path when the printer supports it.
Fix 2: Update or reinstall the driver in Device Manager
Use this route when the printer is listed but has a warning icon, or when Windows reports that the driver failed to load.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, or Other devices.
- Locate the Panasonic printer or an entry with a warning icon.
- Right-click it and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Install any matching driver Windows finds.
- Restart the computer and test a print job.
If updating does not help:
- Return to the same Device Manager entry.
- Right-click the printer.
- Select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers to remove the driver package, select that option only when you intend to reinstall the printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Re-add the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
Make sure the driver matches the system architecture. A package intended for 32-bit Windows, an older Windows release, or a different processor architecture may not install correctly on current 64-bit Windows.
When you are manually choosing among many old driver packages, the difficult part is identifying which device and architecture actually need attention. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs updating; the repair or driver installation is completed by the full version, but reinstalling the printer through Windows or its manufacturer remains the definitive route for this specific legacy package.
Fix 3: Remove a stale printer and driver package
If you no longer own or use the Panasonic printer, restoring pa24w9x.dll may be unnecessary. Windows or an old application can continue requesting a driver after the printer has been removed.

Remove the printer from Settings
- Open Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the obsolete printer.
- Select Remove.
- Restart Windows.
Then test the application that displayed the error. If the message has stopped, the cause was probably a stale printer reference.
Remove the old driver from Print Server Properties
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Select any printer once so that printer-management options appear.
- Select Print server properties.
- Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the old Panasonic driver.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package when Windows presents that option.
- Restart the computer.
Do not remove a driver that is still used by another working printer. If you are unsure, remove the obsolete printer first and check whether another device depends on the same package.
If the print queue is stuck, restart the Print Spooler:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Try printing again, or verify that the old error no longer appears.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use system repair when several Windows components are failing, printing services behave abnormally, or the problem began after an interrupted update or system change. These commands do not install an arbitrary third-party DLL. They repair Windows component files and protected system files when the required files are part of the Windows image.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Keep the Command Prompt window open.
DISM may take time and can appear to pause. Do not close the window while it is working.
Run SFC after DISM
In the same administrator Command Prompt, run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
Interpret the result
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: Windows protected files appear intact. The missing file may belong to a legacy printer package rather than Windows system corruption.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: Restart and test the printer or application again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: Restart, run DISM again, and repeat SFC. If the issue remains, focus on reinstalling or removing the printer package.
- DISM reports that source files could not be found: Make sure Windows Update is working, then retry. A matching Windows repair source may be required.
Running SFC repeatedly without knowing whether the driver package itself is present will not rebuild a missing Panasonic printer installation. Outbyte PC Repair can show which repair areas need attention instead of making you repeat DISM and SFC blindly; its repair action is performed by the full version, and it is not required if the Microsoft commands and printer reinstall solve the problem.
Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
If pa24w9x.dll disappeared immediately after an antivirus scan, check whether Windows Security quarantined it.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open the relevant entry and inspect its path and detection details.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these conditions are met:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- It came from a trusted, correctly matched printer-driver package.
- The package was obtained through Windows, the printer manufacturer, or another verified official support channel.
- The file’s digital signature and source are credible.
- The antivirus result has been independently reviewed.
Do not restore an unexplained DLL merely because the error message names it. If the file came from a random download site, delete it and reinstall the complete driver package instead.
Fix 6: Install the complete INF driver package
If you have obtained a legitimate Panasonic driver package for the exact printer and Windows architecture, install the package rather than copying the DLL.

A driver package normally includes an .inf file that tells Windows how to install the driver and its related files. With the package saved locally:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Replace the path below with the actual location of the INF file.
- Run:
pnputil /add-driver "C:PathTodriver.inf" /install
- Restart Windows.
- Add the printer again through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
pnputil adds a driver package to the Windows Driver Store and installs it when applicable. It is not a method for installing an isolated pa24w9x.dll.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A printer-driver module is normally installed through its INF package and Windows’ printer-driver system.
Running this command is therefore not the normal solution:
regsvr32 pa24w9x.dll
It may return an entry-point error, and a successful registration would not install the printer, its associated files, or its package metadata. Use the printer installation workflow, Device Manager, or pnputil with a complete INF package instead.
Why copying pa24w9x.dll is unsafe
Avoid downloading the DLL by itself and placing it in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An application folder
- The printer-driver directory
A standalone file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to a different package version, lack a valid signature, or require dependencies that are still missing. It can also hide the actual problem, such as a damaged Driver Store or an obsolete printer reference.
There is no verified current Microsoft download page that offers pa24w9x.dll as a standalone file. Use Windows Update, Windows’ printer installation workflow, or the exact printer manufacturer package instead.
If the error appears in an unrelated application
A generic DLL message does not prove that the application itself needs pa24w9x.dll. Check whether the application has printer settings, report-generation features, or an old default-printer integration.

- Open the application again.
- If the error remains, repair or reinstall that application using its own installer.
- If only one application reports the error, test another application’s print function.
If the program was installed recently, its own installation may be incomplete. If the application is old, it may rely on a printer component that current Windows no longer supports.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 compatibility
pa24w9x.dll belongs to a very old printer-driver family. Its historical presence does not establish that the original package is supported on every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation.
Current systems may reject the package because of:
- 32-bit versus 64-bit architecture differences
- ARM hardware
- Driver signing requirements
- An unsupported legacy installation model
- The absence of a current Windows Update package
- Printer hardware that no longer has a maintained driver
First identify the exact printer model. Then check Windows Update and the manufacturer’s official support route. If no compatible package exists, try a current compatible driver or a generic print or IPP option supported by the printer. If the device is no longer used, remove its stale printer and driver entries instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is pa24w9x.dll genuine or malware?
The filename identifies a genuine legacy printer-driver component, but the filename alone cannot prove that a particular copy is safe. Check its source, path, digital signature, and antivirus history. A copy downloaded from an untrusted DLL site should not be treated as genuine.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What does “panson24” mean?
It appears to be a misspelled or shortened internal name for Panasonic 24-pin printer support. Historical Windows documentation associates PANSON24 with Panasonic KX-series printers.
Which printers used it?
Public package inventories associate the driver with Panasonic KX-series models, including the KX-P1123, KX-P1124, KX-P1624, KX-P2124, and related devices. Exact model support depends on the driver package.
Is this a Windows file or a Panasonic file?
It is catalogued as part of a Microsoft Windows printer-driver package, while the hardware support is for Panasonic printers. That is why both Microsoft and Panasonic context can appear during troubleshooting.
Should I put it in System32?
No. The correct location depends on the Windows release, architecture, and installed driver package. Driver files may be managed in the Windows Driver Store rather than copied manually into System32.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Normally, no. Printer-driver modules are installed through an INF-based driver package, not registered as ordinary COM DLLs.
What if Windows keeps requesting it after I removed the printer?
Remove the obsolete printer from Printers & scanners, then remove its old package from Print Server Properties > Drivers. Restart the Print Spooler or restart Windows and test again.
What if SFC finds nothing?
That result suggests the problem may be a missing or damaged third-party legacy printer package rather than protected Windows-file corruption. Reinstall the printer package or remove the stale printer reference, depending on whether the device is still needed.
