dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll is usually the Autodesk DWF Core Library file used by Autodesk Design Review and related DWF components. Before changing Windows, check:

  • Which application shows the error. Is it Autodesk Design Review, another Autodesk program, or a DWF viewer?
  • When does it appear: at startup, after an update, after uninstalling software, or only when opening one DWF file?
  • Does the message say the file is missing, that the specified module cannot be found, or that the DLL is not designed to run on Windows?
  • Is the affected application 32-bit or 64-bit?
  • Is Autodesk Design Review still listed under Settings > Apps > Installed apps?
  • Did Windows Security quarantine the file?
  • Is the file located inside the Autodesk application folder rather than C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64?

The safest repair is to repair or reinstall the Autodesk application that owns the file. Do not begin by downloading a loose DLL.

What dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll is

The filename identifies a real application component, not a normal Windows system file. Public file metadata describes it as the DWF Core Library and associates it with Autodesk. File inventories for Autodesk Design Review place it beside other DWF libraries, including dwfapp_wt.1.7.0.dll and dwftk_wt.7.7.0.dll.

Public records identify the named file as a 32-bit Autodesk component. That does not mean every Design Review installation is 32-bit. Autodesk provides separate x86 and x64 packages, and the application architecture must match the installation you repair.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The file normally belongs in the private directory of Design Review or another Autodesk DWF application. Windows searches an application’s directory as part of normal DLL loading, so placing an application-specific library in a global system directory is not a proper repair.

Error messages you may see

Common messages include:

  • “The program can’t start because dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “The code execution cannot proceed because dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll was not found.”
  • “There was a problem starting dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “Error loading dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

Copy the filename from your own dialog. Some reports omit the dot between wt and 1.7.0, but that may simply be a transcription or filename difference.

“Specified module could not be found” can also mean that the DLL exists but one of its dependencies is missing. Repairing the owning Autodesk installation is still the correct first move.

Fix 1: Repair Autodesk Design Review

Repair is usually faster and safer than replacing an individual file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Close Design Review and other Autodesk applications.
  2. Press Windows + I.
  3. Select Apps, then Installed apps on Windows 11. On Windows 10, select Apps & features.
  4. Search for Autodesk Design Review.
  5. Select the three-dot menu beside it and choose Modify, Change, or Uninstall/Change. The wording depends on the installer.
  6. Choose Repair or Repair or Reinstall.
  7. Let the Autodesk installer complete.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Launch Design Review and open a known-good DWF file.

If you use Control Panel instead:

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Enter appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Select Autodesk Design Review.
  4. Choose Change or Uninstall/Change.
  5. Select Repair and complete the wizard.
  6. Restart and test the application.

A successful repair should restore the DLL and its companion DWF libraries to the application directory. If the repair option is unavailable, fails, or the error returns immediately, continue with a clean reinstall.

Fix 2: Reinstall the matching Autodesk package

Use Autodesk’s official Design Review download page, not a third-party DLL library. Autodesk lists separate packages for Design Review 2018:

  • x64, version 15.3.0.5
  • x86, version 14.0.0.177

The named dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll file is identified in public metadata as 32-bit, making the x86 package especially relevant when a 32-bit Design Review installation is affected. Do not use that fact to replace a 64-bit application blindly. Repair the application whose executable actually produces the error.

To reinstall:

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Select Autodesk Design Review.
  3. Choose Uninstall.
  4. Restart Windows when the uninstall finishes.
  5. Download the appropriate x86 or x64 installer from Autodesk’s official Design Review page.
  6. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
  7. Complete the installation.
  8. Restart Windows again.
  9. Test Design Review with a DWF document.

If Autodesk Design Review is not listed, install the matching official package directly. Do not copy dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll from another computer or from another Autodesk release. A different release can have incompatible companion files or dependencies.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Historical Design Review system requirements mention older Windows versions and .NET Framework requirements. Those requirements describe the old product line and should not be treated as a guarantee of current Windows compatibility.

Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine

Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update, file restoration, or false positive.

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Look for an event involving Design Review, Autodesk, or dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll.
  5. Expand the event and inspect the file path.
  6. If the file is inside the expected Autodesk installation directory, verify that the installer came from Autodesk.
  7. Restore or allow the file only if you are confident it is genuine.
  8. If the path is suspicious, leave the item blocked and reinstall Design Review from Autodesk instead.
  9. Run the Autodesk repair again after handling the quarantine event.

Do not create a broad antivirus exclusion for the Windows directory. If Windows Security repeatedly removes the file after an official reinstall, investigate the detection and installer source before overriding protection.

Fix 4: Confirm the location and architecture

After repair or reinstall, find the application directory through the Design Review shortcut:

  • Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
  • Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
  1. Right-click the Design Review shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Shortcut tab and note the path in Target.
  4. Select Open File Location if available.
  5. Look for dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll beside the Design Review executable and other DWF libraries.

The file should normally be application-local. It should not be copied routinely into:

  • C:WindowsSystem32
  • C:WindowsSysWOW64

System32 is not simply “the 32-bit folder,” and SysWOW64 is not a universal DLL repair location. Global copying can cause Windows to load the wrong version and can hide the real installation problem.

If the file exists but the error remains, the missing item may be a dependency of the Autodesk DLL. Check the application error in Event Viewer:

  1. Press Windows + X.
  2. Select Event Viewer.
  3. Open Windows Logs > Application.
  4. Look for an error at the time Design Review failed.
  5. Record the faulting application and module names.

Use an approved dependency-analysis tool only if you know how to interpret it. Do not delete or replace additional DLLs based on guesses.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components when other programs are also failing

SFC and DISM generally will not restore a third-party Autodesk DLL. They are useful when several Windows applications are damaged or Windows itself behaves incorrectly.

First run DISM from an elevated terminal:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Restart Windows.

Then open an elevated terminal again and run:

sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Retry Design Review repair or reinstall.

If SFC reports that it repaired files, test Design Review again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, repeat the repair after DISM completes and review the result. These commands are not a substitute for reinstalling Design Review.

When repeatedly hunting through Windows repair commands becomes the slow part, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what it found; its free scan identifies issues, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling Autodesk Design Review remains the definitive fix when this specific application DLL is missing.

Fix 6: Update drivers only for post-launch crashes

A graphics-driver update is not a primary fix for a missing dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll. Consider it only if Design Review launches successfully but crashes, renders incorrectly, or fails during measurement or display operations.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To check the graphics driver manually:

  1. Press Windows + X.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Display adapters.
  4. Right-click the graphics device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

You can also select Properties > Driver to review the installed provider and date. Obtain drivers from the GPU manufacturer when Windows cannot find a suitable update.

If checking multiple hardware vendors and driver versions is becoming guesswork, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale drivers and show the detected results; the free scan identifies outdated drivers, while installation through the full version handles the update. A driver update will not replace a missing Autodesk DWF library.

Do not register or download this DLL casually

Do not run:

regsvr32 dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll

just because the file ends in .dll. regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide registration entry points, commonly COM or ActiveX components. There is no authoritative indication that this Autodesk DWF library requires registration. The command can produce another error without repairing Design Review.

Also avoid:

  • Downloading the DLL from random DLL websites
  • Copying a 32-bit file into a 64-bit application
  • Mixing files from different Autodesk releases
  • Replacing the file from another PC without verifying its source
  • Installing Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET as a guaranteed fix without evidence
  • Deleting unrelated files from the Autodesk directory

A loose download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, a mismatched version, or an incomplete set of companion libraries. Use the official Autodesk installer or an approved organizational deployment package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the problem is not a missing DLL

If Design Review starts normally but fails while opening one particular DWF, the document may be corrupt or malformed. Test another known-good DWF. A failure limited to one document points toward the file rather than the Windows installation.

If the program works under one Windows account but not another:

  1. Create or test a separate local Windows profile.
  2. Sign in to that profile.
  3. Launch Design Review.
  4. Test the same DWF.

A profile-specific failure may involve user settings or permissions rather than the DLL itself.

Use System Restore only when the failure clearly began after a recent system change and application repair is unavailable. Open Control Panel, search for Recovery, select Open System Restore, choose an appropriate restore point, and follow the wizard. System Restore is not the first choice for a damaged application installation.

FAQ

Is dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll a Windows file?

No. Available evidence associates it with Autodesk DWF software, especially Design Review. It should normally remain in the Autodesk application directory.

Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?

Public metadata identifies this named file as 32-bit. Design Review also has separate x86 and x64 installers, so repair the architecture used by the affected application.

Should I place it in System32 or SysWOW64?

No. Restore it through Autodesk Design Review Repair or reinstall the matching official package.

Why does the message say the module cannot be found when the file exists?

A dependency of dwfcore_wt.1.7.0.dll may be missing, blocked, or incompatible. Repairing the complete Autodesk installation is safer than replacing individual files.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Windows Features repair this file?

No Windows optional feature is the normal owner of this DLL. Windows Features may repair a separate Windows component, but Design Review itself must be repaired through its Autodesk installer.

What is the definitive fix?

Repair Autodesk Design Review first. If that fails, uninstall it, restart Windows, and reinstall the matching official Autodesk x86 or x64 package.
