There is no verified current cheat-code list or secret code sequence for Dying Breed. The reliable advantages come from keeping Substance D moving, capturing resource buildings, using garrisons intelligently, matching units to targets, and adapting to each mission’s terrain and objective. A refinery-selling exploit described in older update notes was fixed, so it should not be treated as a working cheat.
What “cheats” means in Dying Breed right now
The official material available for Dying Breed does not verify a current console command, password, hidden-code sequence, or repeatable resource glitch. That distinction matters because strategy advice is often reposted as a “secret” even though it is simply normal play. Unless a code is documented for the current build, assume it is unconfirmed.

The documented exploit involved building and selling Refineries to obtain a Harvester and soldiers more cheaply than ordinary production. Because the developer identified it as fixed, guides that present it as an unlimited-money trick are outdated. A patch can also change unit costs, resource yields or objective behavior, so date any advice you find to the version in which it was tested.
How the game’s systems fit together
Dying Breed is a PC real-time strategy game built around base construction, resource collection, unit production and combat across land, air, sea, buildings and caves. The Steam listing describes it as an Early Access release, so balance and interface details can change between updates. Its two campaign factions are identified in the official manual as WWA and EAO.

That combination makes a universal “best unit” answer unreliable. A force that succeeds on an open land map may fail when the objective requires a naval approach, a cave route or the capture of several enemy structures. Evaluate every plan against five questions: what the mission asks you to achieve, which targets must be damaged, how troops can reach them, how much Substance D is available, and whether a building can be captured instead of destroyed.
The official English manual’s contents cover campaigns, WWA and EAO units and structures, the interface, scale management, microcontrol, construction, power, production, credits, the HUD, cursors, hotkeys and walkthroughs for Missions One and Two. The indexed contents confirm those subjects, but the PDF body was not available for verification here. Do not assume a particular shortcut or hotkey without checking the manual in your installed version.
Opening economy: turn Substance D into production
1. Scout before you commit the first build queue
Harvesters collect Substance D, but the official notes specify that they do not collect deposits that remain unexplored. Send reconnaissance far enough to reveal the next deposits before your first Harvester reaches capacity. Scouting is therefore an economic action, not merely a combat precaution.
2. Keep storage and collection synchronized
Harvesters begin collecting automatically, stop when they are full, and resume when storage space becomes available. A full Harvester that has nowhere to unload is idle production capacity. Watch both the vehicle’s capacity and the available storage, then add or secure the storage throughput needed for continuous income.

- Reveal a deposit and confirm that a Harvester can reach it safely.
- Check that your storage has room before committing additional collectors.
- Watch the Harvester after its first load; a pause may indicate full capacity, blocked access or insufficient storage rather than a combat order.
- Protect the route and the storage buildings, because losing either can halt production even when the deposit is still intact.
3. Spend for a sustainable queue
Do not convert the opening stockpile into one oversized attack unless the mission explicitly rewards an immediate strike. Reserve enough Substance D to keep unit production and essential construction running after the first engagement. The goal is a queue that continues while your army moves, not a single wave followed by an empty base.
4. Treat captures as economic operations
Capturing a Refinery, Silo or Command Center grants the resources stored inside it under the documented update behavior. That makes a capture both a positional move and a potential income swing. Compare the stored-resource opportunity with the time, casualties and access route required to take the structure; the exact amount inside is not guaranteed and must be read from the live game state.
5. Check power before production stalls
The manual gives power and unit production their own sections. Developer notes for version 1.1.0 describe power information in building descriptions, a real-time display of energy production and consumption, and a reduced construction penalty while low on power. Those details are version-specific, so use the current building panel and live energy display rather than relying on an old screenshot. A resource-rich base can still fail if its power balance prevents construction or production.
Combat tactics that survive different missions
Use the Commando for access and demolition, not as a universal attacker
The documented Commando restrictions are decisive: it attacks infantry only. It cannot attack vehicles, aircraft or naval units. To destroy a building or bridge, it must plant explosives. Use Commandos to reach a protected infantry position, sabotage a structure or open a route, then bring a force that can handle the targets the Commando cannot.

Before sending one forward, identify the target category and the retreat route. Against a vehicle column, an aircraft group or a ship, a Commando contributes only if its demolition role changes access to the fight; it is not a substitute for anti-vehicle, anti-air or naval capability.
Make garrisons part of movement orders
Update notes state that units obey garrison orders while moving instead of stopping to engage enemies on the way. This allows a column to cross contested ground with a destination in mind rather than being pulled into every incidental skirmish. The same update introduced a capacity limit per structure, so verify that the destination can accept the whole group.
- Reveal the route and identify structures that can serve as cover or staging points.
- Check each structure’s remaining capacity before assigning the garrison order.
- Issue the garrison order as part of the movement plan, not after the column has already stopped to fight.
- Use the occupied structure to prepare the next move, defend a capture or wait for reinforcements.
Garrisoning is not invulnerability. A structure can have limited capacity, can be surrounded and may be the objective itself. Keep a reserve outside so one blocked entrance does not trap your entire force.

The Shipyard automatically repairs nearby naval units. Keep damaged ships within practical repair range when the mission allows it, and avoid sending every vessel beyond support before the next engagement. No current repair rate or ideal formation is established in the official notes, so judge distance and recovery from the in-game health bars rather than from an old numerical guide.

Read terrain as a weapon
The game’s battles span air, sea, land, buildings and caves. A narrow cave or bridge can make access more important than raw unit count; a naval map can make ship production and repair positioning the center of the plan. Use the route that lets your force attack the required target while denying the opponent an easy response, even if that route is slower.

Capture missions
One documented tactical mission focuses on capturing enemy buildings to weaken the defenses before attacking the main base. In that situation, destroying every guard immediately is inefficient. Secure the buildings that reduce the defender’s strength, use the resources gained from eligible captures, and only then commit to the base assault.
Naval-centered missions
Official notes describe maps centered on naval play. Confirm that your economy can support a Shipyard and the vessels required to reach the objective; a land-heavy opening may leave you unable to contest the decisive route. Keep repair access in mind and avoid treating ships as disposable scouting units when the mission requires sustained control of water.

List the targets before production begins: infantry, vehicles, aircraft, naval units, structures or bridges. Then build a force with a job for each category. The Commando’s infantry-only attack and demolition requirement make this checklist especially important; a force with no answer to one target type can lose despite winning its first skirmish.

Version notes, updates and save safety
Official announcements describe Update 1.2 as adding six missions across the two campaigns, along with gameplay, interface and resource-management improvements. The announcement also lists Hotfix 1.2.2 for objective-tracking and unit-state issues. The excerpt does not establish the hotfix’s year, so verify the live announcement date and build number before calling it the latest version.
Update 1.1.0 is the source for several mechanics discussed above, including garrison capacity, power information and the fixed Refinery exploit. It also records a change that increased Substance D per resource element from 100 to 200; the announcement excerpt does not clearly establish its year. Treat that figure as a historical patch detail and check the current resource display before basing an opening on it.
The developer warns that Early Access updates may not preserve save compatibility. Make a backup before installing a major update, and expect an older mission solution to diverge if costs, yields, objective triggers or unit behavior have changed. A reliable troubleshooting order is:
- Check the current announcement history and installed build.
- Test the mission in a fresh save if an old save shows missing objectives or frozen units.
- Re-read building and unit descriptions for changed power, capacity or target rules.
- Retire exploit-based instructions rather than trying to reproduce them after a patch.
Practical checklists
First five minutes
- Reveal nearby Substance D deposits.
- Confirm a Harvester has a reachable, unexplored deposit.
- Check storage capacity and the power balance.
- Queue production that supports the mission objective instead of one blind attack.
- Identify a capturable Refinery, Silo or Command Center and estimate the risk of reaching it.
Before the first attack
- Classify every important enemy as infantry, vehicle, aircraft, naval unit or structure.
- Remove the Commando from plans that require it to fight non-infantry targets.
- Choose a garrison route if crossing contested ground, and verify capacity.
- Keep enough Substance D and power for reinforcements after contact.
- Leave a reserve to defend storage, repair access or a newly captured building.
After a failed assault
- Determine whether the failure was caused by target mismatch, blocked access, insufficient production or an objective trigger.
- Rebuild around the actual mission requirement rather than repeating the same unit queue.
- Use a capture to gain stored resources when the structure is reachable and strategically valuable.
- Check whether the mission is running on a changed build or an incompatible save.
What to ignore in cheat and secret lists
Ignore any list that promises unlimited Substance D without identifying a current official command, presents the fixed Refinery exploit as reliable, or gives a Commando a target it cannot attack. Be equally cautious with guides that state exact hotkeys, repair rates, resource yields or “best faction” rankings without a version and test context. WWA and EAO both have campaign and unit differences, but the available official material does not establish a universally strongest faction or unit.
The dependable edge in Dying Breed is disciplined information: scout deposits, keep Harvesters unloading, maintain power, capture valuable structures, move through garrisons without unnecessary engagements, and build for the target mix in front of you. Those practices remain useful even when a future Early Access patch changes costs or mission scripting.
