To complete One Flew Over the Volatiles’ Nest in Dying Light: The Beast, climb to the cave, defeat the Wraith, follow the waypoint into the nest, collect three samples without drawing the Volatiles’ attention, then escape and report back to Lydia. The mission is not finished when the boss goes down: the nest and sample run come afterward.
Climb to the cave and reach the Wraith
- At the objective, look for the marked ledges on the rock formation and climb across them toward the cave entrance. Keep following the route markers as you cross the rocks. Neoseeker’s walkthrough describes this approach.
- Continue through the cave until you reach the Wraith encounter. The guides describe it as a multi-phase fight; watch for openings rather than assuming every attack is safe to punish. One guide recommends upgrading the UV Flashlight before starting, but that is advice, not a stated quest requirement. See the Dying Light: The Beast Guide for its preparation recommendation.
Follow the waypoint to the nest
After the Wraith fight, keep moving through the cave. Follow the in-game waypoint through the crevices, climbing sections and flooded passage until you reach the Volatile nest. The boss encounter is only the first part of the mission.
Collect the three samples without being detected
The guides recommend treating this as a stealth section rather than trying to clear the nest. Use Survivor Sense to track nearby Volatiles, watch which way their attention is turned, and move between cover when there is an opening. Collect each marked sample, then reassess the Volatiles’ positions before crossing to the next one.
- Use Survivor Sense to keep track of nearby threats.
- Wait for Volatiles to look away before moving between cover.
- Prioritize concealment and timing over fighting the nest’s Volatiles.
- Follow the objective markers to locate each sample.
Escape and return to Lydia
Taking the third sample triggers a pursuit. Run along the marked escape route and follow the waypoint out; the guides differ on specific escape advice, so use the route shown in your game rather than relying on a particular skill being mandatory. One recommends Sprint and Active Landing, while another emphasizes simply running the escape route.

Once clear, return to the exile cave and speak with Lydia to complete the quest.
