To complete Precious Cargo, speak to Keller at Town Hall in Old Town after the story quest A New Strain. Find the submerged ammunition container in the Industrial Area water duct, restore power to the crane through the warehouse switchgear, then decide whether to share the ammunition after the bandit ambush.
How to start Precious Cargo
Go to Town Hall in Old Town and speak with Keller. PowerPyx lists A New Strain as the unlock requirement, and GameTrek also identifies Keller as the quest giver. PowerPyx’s side quest locations guide and GameTrek’s Precious Cargo walkthrough cover the quest start.

Find the ammunition container
- Follow the quest marker to the water duct in the Industrial Area.
- Dive into the water and search for the submerged ammunition container. Use Survivor’s Sense to help locate it.
- Once you have found it, return to shore and go to the crane beside the white truck.
- Position the crane over the container and try to lift it. The crane does not have enough power yet, so you must restore power inside the warehouse.
How to power the crane
The main obstacle is the warehouse emergency bypass. You need to reach the switchgear, route the cable, turn on the power, and connect the cable to the crane. GameTrek describes the warehouse route; the WoW Quests video walkthrough also lists the switchgear and bypass among the objectives.
- Inspect the electrical panel, then enter the warehouse through the broken window.
- Work your way down through the basement route to reach the switchgear. The route passes through vents and locked rooms and includes infected, so keep following the quest objective rather than trying to reach the crane from inside the building.
- At the switchgear, make the emergency bypass by routing the cable and turning the power on.
- Connect the cable to the crane. Return outside and use the crane to lift the container.
If the crane still will not lift the container, check that the bypass is powered and that the cable is connected to the crane; reaching the switchgear alone is not the final step.

Open the container and choose what to do with the ammunition
After retrieving the container, open it. Bandits ambush you, and their Ringleader asks for a share of the cargo. You can agree to share one crate or refuse. GameTrek says sharing grants a quest finding, “A Tape with Old Rock Hits,” and some med kits. Gamer Guides reports additional differences in ammunition and medkit consequences between accepting and refusing, but the available guide accounts do not establish a consistent full reward breakdown.
When the encounter is over, return to Keller to finish the quest. Reported XP rewards differ: GameTrek lists 7,500 XP, while Gamer Guides lists 8,000 XP. The sources also differ in reward wording, so treat those figures as guide reports rather than a confirmed in-game total. GameTrek names Keller’s Lucky Bullet and two Beginner Manual Pages among its listed rewards.
