Techland announced Dying Light: The Beast on August 20, 2024, bringing Kyle Crane back as the lead in a standalone zombie adventure. The game launched on September 18, 2025; it is no longer an upcoming release. Techland also announced three PS5 physical editions in September 2026, with preorders scheduled through October 16, 2026.
What Techland announced—and why Crane is back
At Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024, Techland announced Dying Light: The Beast as a standalone adventure. The studio identified Kyle Crane, protagonist of Dying Light and its The Following expansion, as the returning hero. Techland’s announcement called it a new zombie adventure rather than an add-on to Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

The connection to The Following is central to the premise. In a July 2025 interview, Techland developers said Crane was infected at the end of that expansion and subjected to years of experimentation. They describe his Beast-like abilities as short, violent bursts—not an always-on god mode. Those are the developers’ account of the story and how the power works. When Techland first announced the game, it said owners of the Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition would receive The Beast at no extra charge. That was the offer described in the 2024 announcement; it does not establish current eligibility or present purchase terms.

It launched in September 2025
Dying Light: The Beast launched on September 18, 2025, according to Techland’s launch announcement. The original reveal is therefore best understood as a historical announcement, not a notice of an upcoming game.
Xbox Wire reported in July 2025 that more than 50 million unique players had joined the Dying Light franchise by that date. That is a dated franchise figure, not a current player count for The Beast.

What the game plays like
Techland’s description combines first-person parkour and physical combat with a return to survival-horror pressures. The game is set in Castor Woods, where players can explore on foot or use 4×4 vehicles. At night, Volatiles roam, making the day-night cycle a threat-management problem rather than just a change in atmosphere.
In the July 2025 Xbox Wire interview, Techland developers said ammunition is scarce and gunfire can attract danger. Vehicles have fuel and can break down, while the valley features handcrafted areas and dynamic weather. Co-op supports up to four players. Franchise Director Tymon Smektała said the goal was to restore a sense of fear at night; the developers’ description of Crane’s powers likewise emphasizes brief bursts rather than removing the danger.

PS5 physical editions and preorder dates
On September 18, 2026, Techland announced three PS5 physical editions made with Super Rare Games. The studio says each includes the Definitive Edition and all post-launch updates. Its stated preorder period runs from September 18 at 4 p.m. CEST through October 16, 2026. Techland also warns that distribution, tax, and shipping constraints make physical editions unavailable in some regions; check current stock and shipping eligibility with the seller before ordering. Techland’s physical-editions announcement does not state prices.

All three editions announced are for PS5. The announcement says digital editions remain available globally across platforms, but it does not provide a complete platform list or establish current physical stock.
