EA has already brought The Sims and The Sims 2 back as digital Windows releases. The Sims: Legacy Collection, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, and a bundle containing both began rolling out on January 31, 2025. They include most of the original games’ expansions and add-on packs, but the Sims 2 collection does not include IKEA Home Stuff.
Which Sims collections did EA release?
EA released three purchase options for Windows 10 and 11: a collection for each game and a bundle containing both. EA lists them for the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store. These are digital licenses, not established physical PC editions.

Does The Sims 2 Legacy Collection include IKEA stuff?
No. EA’s listed contents include eight Sims 2 expansion packs and nine stuff or holiday packs, but not The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff. The collection therefore should not be described as every Sims 2 add-on ever released.
Are these remakes or remasters?
They are updated releases of the original games, not full graphical remakes. EA says both games were rebuilt or updated for modern Windows while retaining their original gameplay and graphics. The added Sims 4 kits are listed bonuses; the collections do not otherwise add a new campaign or a major body of new game content.

What changed in The Sims: Legacy Collection?
EA says the first game uses the Vulkan graphics engine, supports widescreen monitors, and has higher-quality textures for buildings and objects. These technical changes improve compatibility with modern systems and displays without changing the game into a modern-style remake.
What changed in The Sims 2: Legacy Collection?
The Sims 2 release uses DirectX 9.c. EA also lists fixes for some legacy and reported problems, including black shadow boxes and objects rendered pink. EA says it addressed bugs it could fix safely without changing the game’s design, while leaving issues whose fixes could create major risks.

Can you play the original Sims on Windows 11?
EA’s product pages list both collections for Windows 10 and 11. EA Help publishes Windows 10 as the minimum operating system for each; the product-page support listing is the basis for Windows 11 availability. EA’s published minimum PC requirements for both collections are:
- Processor: Intel i3-3220, AMD Ryzen 3 1200, or AMD FX-6300
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Storage: 16 GB free space
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 600 series or later, AMD Radeon HD 7000 series or later, or Intel HD Graphics 620 series or later
These are EA’s minimum specifications, not independent performance-test results. Meeting them does not establish how the games will perform on every PC configuration.

Can you use old save files or mods?
Moving old saves
EA says uncorrupted saves from the original releases can work with the new editions, but the save folders have moved. You need to copy the save folders into the new editions’ locations. EA warns that corrupted files may cause missing content, malfunction, or crashes; the compatibility guidance does not guarantee that every old save will transfer successfully.
Using mods
EA Help says Maxis has not tested or supported mods for either collection. Compatibility is up to each mod’s creator, so an old mod should not be assumed to work with the new release.

How much did the collections cost at launch?
When EA announced the January 31, 2025 rollout, it gave US-dollar launch prices of $19.99 for The Sims: Legacy Collection, $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, and $39.99 for The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle. Those are the announced launch prices, not a statement of current prices or prices in other regions; check the relevant storefront for its current listing.
Which edition makes sense to buy?
- Choose The Sims: Legacy Collection if you want the first game and its seven listed expansion packs.
- Choose The Sims 2: Legacy Collection if you want the second game with its listed expansions and stuff packs, and you are comfortable with IKEA Home Stuff being absent.
- Choose the 25th Birthday Bundle if you want both collections; EA describes it as containing both.
Before buying, confirm that your PC meets EA’s minimum specifications and decide whether your old saves or mods are important to your setup. Save compatibility requires moving uncorrupted files, while mod support is not guaranteed.
