Respawn said it was stepping away from two early-stage incubation projects and making targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. It said it would focus resources on those franchises and that affected employees would receive support, including the exploration of other opportunities within EA.

EA’s spokesperson described the organizational changes as a way to align teams and allocate resources around the company’s long-term priorities. The public explanation was broad; the available reporting does not establish a more specific reason for canceling the Titanfall project.
PC Gamer reproduced Respawn’s statement: “As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.” PC Gamer’s April 29, 2025 report also quoted EA’s statement about its organizational changes.

How many people did EA lay off?
Bloomberg reported that EA cut between 300 and 400 positions, including around 100 at Respawn, citing a person familiar with the cuts. These are reported estimates, not figures EA published in its statement. Bloomberg’s report also cited EA’s approximately 13,700 employees at the end of March 2024; that is historical context, not a current headcount.
What was the canceled Titanfall game?
Bloomberg and contemporaneous reporting identified one of the canceled projects as R7, an early-stage extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe. It reportedly was not close to release. R7 and the game’s genre are reported details, not a formal product announcement by EA or Respawn. The other project Respawn mentioned was reportedly canceled earlier in 2025; its identity was not disclosed in the sources cited here.

Was it Titanfall 3?
No source cited in the reporting confirms that the canceled project was Titanfall 3. Reports describe an unannounced Titanfall-universe extraction shooter, not a numbered sequel. Calling it Titanfall 3 would go beyond what has been established.

Respawn said it would focus resources on Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. The project cancellation does not, by itself, establish any change to the status or release plans of those games.
