Real Racing 3 is no longer facing an upcoming shutdown. EA delisted the game and disabled in-app purchases on December 18, 2025. EA’s current service registry records the game’s online service as closed on March 20, 2026, so the shutdown is already complete as of August 18, 2026.
EA announced the retirement in its official “Real Racing 3 – The Final Lap” post, using “sunset” to describe the retirement of the live service—not merely the end of updates.

The official shutdown date
There are two dates in EA’s official materials:
- EA’s original player announcement said the servers would close on March 19, 2026.
- EA’s current online-service shutdown registry lists March 20, 2026 for the Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook versions.
The discrepancy should be attributed rather than silently resolved. The current status is clear: Real Racing 3’s online service has ended.

Real Racing 3 shutdown timeline
| Date | What happened | What it meant for players |
|---|---|---|
| December 18, 2025 | Delisting and in-app-purchase shutdown | New downloads were removed from the listed stores, and real-money purchases were disabled. |
| March 19, 2026 | Date in EA’s original announcement | EA said the servers would close and the game would no longer be playable. |
| March 20, 2026 | Date in EA’s current service registry | EA’s current official listing records the service shutdown. |
| August 18, 2026 | Current status | The shutdown is in the past, not an upcoming event. |
What delisting meant
Delisting did not mean that every installed copy disappeared from every device immediately. EA said the game would no longer be available to new users through the App Store or Google Play, while previous players could re-download it through their account libraries until the stated closure period.
#1 Best Overall
- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
- Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover
- Customizable Pedals: These pressure-sensitive nonlinear brake pedals provide a responsive, accurate braking feel on a sturdy base - with adjustable pedal faces for finer control
- 900-Degree Rotation: Lock-to-lock rotation of the Driving Force means you can turn the wheel around two and a half times, hand over hand on wide turns - just like a real F1 race car
- Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts
That distinction matters now:
- An installed copy may remain on a device, but its access can depend on authentication, the installed version, the platform, and the device’s operating system.
- Deleting the app after the shutdown may leave no official re-download route, even for someone who previously owned it.
- Having an old installation does not guarantee that server-dependent events, progression, cloud data, or other online features still work.
EA’s registry also identifies Amazon and Facebook versions, so the affected platforms were broader than only Apple and Google.
What happened to purchases and unused currency?
EA said purchases made before December 18, 2025, would remain usable until the shutdown date. It also said unused in-game currency would expire after the game became unplayable and advised players to spend existing currency before closure.

That does not mean every player automatically qualifies for a refund. Past purchases, unused virtual currency, and recently completed real-money transactions are separate issues. Refund eligibility can depend on the purchase date, platform, jurisdiction, and applicable consumer-protection rules. Players with transaction questions should check the storefront where they paid—Apple, Google, Amazon, or Facebook—and contact EA Help where appropriate.
Can you still play Real Racing 3?
EA’s general service-shutdown policy says that some retired games may retain offline functionality, depending on which services are being retired. That policy does not guarantee that every Real Racing 3 mode remains available.

- EASY SETUP & READY TO DRIVE - Designed for convenience, this gaming wheel installs quickly with a tool-free clamp system for desks and tables up to 1.8″ thick. Just plug and play with no additional software required. A great fit for home setups, bedrooms, or shared spaces.

The safest conclusion is therefore limited: EA confirms that the online service has ended, while any remaining offline behavior may vary according to the installed version, device, platform, and whether a particular mode requires server authentication. Do not assume that an installed app can restore cloud progress or authenticate successfully after the closure.
If you still have the game installed and want to check for offline behavior, avoid uninstalling it casually. Do not treat community reports, modified clients, unofficial patches, or revival projects as EA-supported solutions.

Why did EA retire the game?
EA’s general service-update policy points to declining participation and the continuing cost of maintaining legacy online infrastructure. The policy describes a typical threshold of less than 1% of peak online players across EA titles, but that is general policy context—not a game-specific explanation proving why Real Racing 3 was closed.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
What the final update included
EA said the final update granted all players:
- 1,000 Gold
- A 2023 Rimac Nevera
- An Audi S1 e-tron quattro
Players who already owned one or both cars were eligible for additional Gold under EA’s stated compensation arrangement. These were final-update rewards, not benefits that can necessarily still be claimed after the service closure.
A 12-year run comes to an end
EA announced Real Racing 3 as available across mobile platforms in 2013, with development by its Firemonkeys studio. EA’s shutdown announcement described the game as having served its community for 12 years. In practical terms, its run lasted roughly from 2013 to 2026.
What players can do now
- Keep purchase records. Save receipts or transaction history if you may need to ask about a recent purchase.
- Check the original storefront. Refund or transaction questions must generally be handled through the platform used for payment.
- Be cautious with old installations. An installed copy is not proof that online features or saved data can still be recovered.
- Avoid unofficial downloads. APK mirrors, modified apps, emulators, and community server projects can introduce malware, account-security, licensing, compatibility, and data-loss risks. Their authorization and long-term support are not established by EA’s official notices.
- Choose replacements carefully. If you move to another racing game, check whether it supports offline play, how progression is stored, whether it requires recurring authentication, and whether its monetization relies on purchases, ads, subscriptions, or downloadable content.
The commercial information available for specific alternatives is too changeable to recommend a particular replacement here without verifying current regional availability, pricing, platform support, and offline behavior.

The bottom line
EA did pull the plug on Real Racing 3, but “soon” is outdated. The game was delisted and its in-app purchases were disabled in December 2025; EA’s current registry records the service shutdown on March 20, 2026. Existing installations may behave differently, but EA no longer operates the game’s online service.
