These are sensible diagnostic steps—not a confirmed fix: the available official guidance does not identify a universal Steam Deck workaround for FC 25.
Does EA SPORTS FC 25 work on Steam Deck?
There is no Steam Deck-specific compatibility guarantee or confirmed crash fix in the available official guidance. Steam’s listed minimum requirements for FC 25 are for Windows PC, not SteamOS or Steam Deck. They specify Windows 10 64-bit, a Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-6600K, 8 GB RAM, an RX 570 or GTX 1050 Ti, DirectX 12, broadband internet, and 100 GB of available storage. Meeting those PC requirements does not establish that the game will run reliably on a Deck. Steam’s FC 25 technical-issue page lists the PC requirements.
EA’s FC 25 support hub provides crash and freeze guidance for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, along with help for corrupt files and EA app errors. It does not provide a Steam Deck-specific solution. A Reddit discussion raises questions about anti-cheat and online or offline behavior, but does not establish anti-cheat as the cause of Deck crashes. That discussion is not an official compatibility determination.
Try the lowest-risk Steam Deck checks first
- Install available system updates. From the Deck, open Steam > Settings > System and check for updates. Install any available update, then restart the device. Steam’s general advice for Deck instability is to check for system updates and restart; this is not a FC 25-specific fix. See Steam’s Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide.
- Check the game’s compatibility settings. If you installed FC 25 through Steam, open the game’s page in your Library, select the gear icon, then Properties > Compatibility. Check whether a compatibility tool is being forced. If the game still crashes, try another Proton version listed there, one at a time, and test whether the symptom changes.
- Retest the same situation. Try launching the game or entering the same type of match that previously caused the crash. Note whether the change affects launch, loading, or match entry; switching Proton versions is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed repair.
Steam’s general guide recommends checking compatibility and trying a specific Proton version where relevant. A Steam Community post from May 9, 2024 attributed EA-game problems to a Proton Experimental update and suggested trying other versions. That is an anecdotal, dated user report—not Valve’s diagnosis and not proof that Proton Experimental causes FC 25 crashes. Read the community post, but do not assume any one Proton version will work for every Deck or game build.

Use the crash timing to guide your next check
FC 25 will not launch
After the system update and restart, check whether you installed the game through Steam or another route. The Steam compatibility steps above apply to the Steam installation route. If you installed through another route, the available sources do not establish equivalent Deck-specific instructions; avoid assuming Steam’s game compatibility options cover that setup.
The game crashes while loading or entering a match
Record exactly when it fails: on the initial launch, during loading, or as a match begins. An EA Forums report describes a match-entry crash on Windows PC, but it does not diagnose the same symptom on Steam Deck. The report is useful only as a separate PC case, not evidence of a Deck cause.

The crash began after an update
Note whether SteamOS, FC 25, or the selected Proton tool updated shortly before the problem started. If the timing coincides with a Proton change, testing another available version can help determine whether the behavior differs; it cannot prove the update caused the crash. The dated community report about Proton Experimental is not enough to identify the cause of a current FC 25 failure.

If basic checks do not help, contact EA support through the FC 25 support hub and Steam Support. Steam’s guide says, “If you’re not able to resolve your issue, contact Steam Support.” Include details that can distinguish one crash pattern from another:

- Steam Deck model and SteamOS version
- FC 25 update or build, if visible
- Whether the game is installed through Steam or another route
- The selected Proton version, if one is shown or forced
- Whether it crashes at launch, during loading, or when entering a match
- Any error message and whether the issue began after a system, game, or Proton update
The reviewed official sources do not establish a Steam Deck-specific crash workaround. Avoid treating an unverified file deletion or launcher reinstall as a proven remedy.
