If EA Sports FC 26 stays on “Searching For Opponent,” first check EA and your platform’s live service status. If services are up, work through session and connection checks before changing matchmaking settings. EA publishes general connection advice, but it has not confirmed a permanent fix for this exact message.
Is the problem EA’s servers or your connection?
Start with EA’s server-status page: select FC 26 and check the service for your platform as well. If either status page shows an incident, wait and try again later instead of resetting your network equipment. Status can change, so check again if the problem continues.
If services appear normal, compare what happens across modes and connection types. A search that fails only in one mode points to a different pattern than trouble across several online modes; failure on Wi-Fi but not Ethernet suggests a local wireless-quality issue. These observations help narrow the cause, but do not prove a server fault, account restriction, or specific matchmaking defect.
Work through these low-risk checks
- Check service status. Use EA’s server-status page and your platform’s service-status page before changing settings.
- Refresh the game session. Fully close FC 26, then launch it again and retry the affected mode. EA recommends restarting the game for connection issues.
- Restart your modem and router if the problem remains. If they are separate devices, restart both; wait at least 30 seconds before turning them back on. Follow the device maker’s instructions for the restart.
- Reduce competing network activity during a test. Pause large downloads, streams, or other demanding activity on your network, then try matchmaking again.
- Check connection quality, not just download speed. EA’s Connection Quality Report, where available, uses ping, packet loss, and jitter. Ping is round-trip time to FC game data centers; packet loss indicates data packets that fail to make the round trip; jitter measures changes in ping over time. Download speed alone does not show these three qualities.
- Test Ethernet against Wi-Fi if possible. EA recommends trying a wired connection when Wi-Fi is inconsistent. If you cannot use Ethernet, its connection guidance also covers comparing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, trying a less crowded channel, checking router firmware, disconnecting a VPN, and considering QoS. Treat these as connection checks, not confirmed fixes for this matchmaking message.
- Try changing crossplay only after the checks above. A third-party guide reports disabling crossplay as a possible workaround, but EA has not confirmed it as a fix. Change only that setting, retry, and restore the original setting if it makes no difference. A smaller available player pool may mean longer waits, and crossplay behavior can vary by platform, mode, region, and game update.
What the results can tell you

- Your platform and the game mode affected.
- The date and time of failed attempts, including your time zone.
- Whether other online modes work.
- Your crossplay setting and whether changing it affected the search.
- Whether you were using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, plus any relevant Connection Quality readings.
- Whether EA or platform service status showed an incident at the time.
These details can help describe the problem; they do not, by themselves, establish an account restriction or server fault. EA says, “Your personal network connection has a big impact on your Connection Quality and your online gameplay experience.”
