An early 2023 Geekbench OpenCL comparison reported a score of 105,630 for NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 versus approximately 89,000 for the RTX 3060—about an 18% lead in that benchmark. It is a narrow compute result, not evidence that the RTX 4060 is 18% faster in games or across all workloads.
What the early Geekbench comparison found
Notebookcheck reported the RTX 4060 at 105,630 and the RTX 3060 at approximately 89,000 in Geekbench OpenCL in 2023, describing the difference as about 18%. VideoCardz likewise characterized the early result as “up to 18% faster,” based on Geekbench’s ranking. These are contemporaneous reported benchmark figures, not scores independently measured here. Notebookcheck’s 2023 report and VideoCardz’s coverage provide the historical context.

The percentage describes the difference between those two OpenCL scores: it should not be read as a promised performance gain in a game, a different compute application, or every system configuration.
Why this is not a controlled head-to-head review
Geekbench’s GPU charts are built from user-submitted Geekbench 6 results. The listed results can come from different systems and configurations, rather than two graphics cards tested under identical conditions. The available historical reporting does not identify the original RTX 4060 submission URL or its complete system configuration, so the exact comparison cannot be independently reconstructed from those details.

Geekbench’s RTX 3060 page explains the user-submission context and displays OpenCL and Vulkan scores. Its current chart data is not the same thing as the specific 2023 comparison.
Keep historical scores separate from current chart data
The current Geekbench GPU chart shows a separate RTX 3060 score of 87,450. That is a current aggregate-chart value, not the approximately 89,000 figure Notebookcheck cited in 2023. Comparing values from different chart snapshots or benchmark versions would change the calculation without creating a valid like-for-like result. Geekbench’s GPU benchmark chart is useful for viewing its current data, but it does not replace the historical pair.
What the result says about gaming performance
Geekbench OpenCL measures a graphics card in a compute benchmark; it is not a game frame-rate test. NVIDIA’s launch-era RTX 4060 comparisons instead specify games, 1920×1080 resolution, highest settings, DLSS Quality mode, Frame Generation where supported, and a stated test platform. Those gaming conditions answer a different question and cannot validate or directly contradict the OpenCL percentage. NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 launch guide describes those tests and the card’s positioning.

RTX 4060 launch context
NVIDIA’s 2023 launch guide listed the RTX 4060 with 3,072 CUDA cores, a 2.46 GHz boost clock, 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a $299 MSRP. NVIDIA said it first released in June 2023 and positioned it for 1080p gaming. The MSRP is a historical launch price, not a current retail quote or an indication of present-day value. NVIDIA’s product-family page lists the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti.
What to conclude before upgrading
The early score is evidence of an approximately 18% advantage for the RTX 4060 in one reported Geekbench OpenCL comparison. It does not establish an 18% gaming uplift or answer whether upgrading is worthwhile. That decision depends on the games or applications you use, measured performance in those workloads, the cards being compared, and current prices; this benchmark alone supplies none of those broader comparisons.
