How the named rails differ
- Pix: Brazil’s instant-payment system, named in the announcement as an option for Brazilian players.
- SPEI: Mexico’s interbank electronic transfer system, named for the Mexican market.
- PagoEfectivo: Peru’s named local option. The announcement does not detail the checkout steps for this method.
- Mercado Pago: The release names Mercado Pago in Brazil and Mercado Pago wallets across the region. It does not say that the same wallet option is available in every rollout country.
Can players pay without a credit card?
The named local rails give some players alternatives to card payment, but the announcement does not document the exact methods shown to each user or whether any particular top-up can be completed without a card in every country. EBANX’s release says that roughly one in four adults in Latin America has a credit card, while more than half of people aged 15 or older have made a digital payment; it attributes both regional figures to World Bank data but does not state the data year.
For country context, EBANX’s September 2026 release says around 60 million Brazilians lack a credit card and reports about 170 million Pix users—equivalent to 96% of Brazil’s adult population—attributing the Pix figures to Brazil’s Central Bank without stating a year. It also reports that 33% of people with access to a credit card in Mexico and 37% of Peruvian adults have a credit card; the release does not name a separate source for those figures. It says more than half of Mexican adults use SPEI and PagoEfectivo reaches 64% of Peruvian adults, likewise without a separately named source. These are figures reported by EBANX, not an account-level guarantee of who can use a method at NetEase checkout.

Why the announcement points to a large gaming market
EBANX cites a 2026 projection of USD 8.4 billion in game revenue across the five rollout markets, including USD 3.8 billion for Brazil. Those are forecasts based on PCMI data analyzed by EBANX, not realized revenue. The company also cites Newzoo’s 2025 estimate that Latin America’s gaming market grew 6.4%, versus 4.2% in North America and 3.6% in Europe. The comparison is reported in EBANX’s announcement; Newzoo’s 2025 report page confirms the report but does not show that specific regional comparison in its accessible page text.
The figures explain the commercial rationale for adding checkout options, but they do not show that this partnership has already increased NetEase sales. Sean Yu, EBANX’s VP of Commercial for APAC, described the company’s view: “The next wave of video game growth is coming from emerging markets, and Latin America is leading it.”

What EBANX’s payment uplift figures do—and do not—show
EBANX’s announcement reports maximum merchant revenue uplifts following integrations of three local methods. The measurement windows differ, and the company presents these as results among its merchants—not as controlled causal estimates or NetEase-specific outcomes.
