What Eidos-Montréal has confirmed
In a statement dated March 30, 2026, Eidos-Montréal said changing project needs were behind a workforce reduction affecting 124 employees, with impacts across production and support teams. Gematsu reproduced the studio’s statement, which did not identify any specific cancelled game.
The studio also said it and David Anfossi were parting ways and that a leadership transition plan was underway. The statement did not say whether Anfossi resigned or was laid off.
What was reported in late 2025—and what remains unconfirmed
On December 4, 2025, PC Gamer reported that former employees had posted about losing their jobs the previous week. The outlet cited a LinkedIn post by presentation director Timothé Lapetite and said at least a dozen people were affected. It also reported that Eidos-Montréal and Embracer had not confirmed the layoffs or responded to its requests for comment.

PC Gamer separately attributed the claim that most Eidos-Montréal projects had been cancelled, and that the studio had shifted toward co-development, to sources speaking to Insider Gaming. Those project claims were reports, not an announcement from the studio or Embracer; they should not be treated as confirmed cancellations.

What the reports do not establish
The March 2026 workforce announcement does not verify the earlier claim that most internal projects were cancelled. Nor do the cited reports establish Eidos-Montréal’s current headcount or whether additional layoffs or cancellations occurred after March 30, 2026.

Embracer’s May 2026 report disclosed a SEK 1.2 billion impairment for an unnamed larger, unannounced game-development project that had been discontinued. Because the disclosure did not identify the studio or project, it is not evidence that Eidos-Montréal cancelled a game.

Eidos-Montréal’s official site describes it as an Embracer Group member and lists Deus Ex, Thief, Tomb Raider, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Grounded among its history. The site currently features Grounded 2 and Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow. This context does not confirm the status of unannounced projects.

Embracer’s May 2022 acquisition announcement included Eidos-Montréal among the studios it agreed to acquire and named Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain among the intellectual property involved. That is historical ownership context, not a statement about current development plans.
