What players can use with confidence are documented unlock conditions, recruitment routes, headquarters planning, party-management rules and exploration habits that make the campaign easier to complete. The most important unlock is Hero Mode: the game wiki lists a Level 3 headquarters, at least 80 recruited characters and a Mysterious Room built in the Drafting Studio as prerequisites before you speak with Selbineth in the basement. It identifies “To Norristar, the Western Nation” as the earliest point when the mode can open (Hero Mode requirements).
This guide separates spoiler-light advice from progression-revealing recruitment information. If you are trying to find every hero, use the early sections first, then open the clearly marked full-spoiler route only when you are ready.

What “cheats” means in Eiyuden Chronicle
Searches for “Eiyuden Chronicle cheats” often imply secret passwords, controller inputs or exploits. The documented material for Hundred Heroes instead focuses on legitimate unlocks and planning. No verified code list is documented in the guides linked here, so entering random button combinations or downloading an alleged trainer is not a dependable way to unlock content. The practical shortcuts are knowing when characters become available, meeting facility requirements early and using the right party roles.

Hero Mode: the major documented unlock
Hero Mode is an endurance-style challenge rather than a code entered from the title screen. The game wiki’s listing gives a specific sequence of requirements. Treat the following as the complete set reported by that page; finer rules are not established in the available description.
- Raise headquarters to Level 3. Your base must reach the third headquarters level.
- Recruit at least 80 characters. The requirement is a total of 80 recruited characters, not merely characters seen in the story.
- Build the Mysterious Room in the Drafting Studio. The room is a facility panel within the Drafting Studio and must be developed.
- Speak with Selbineth in the headquarters basement. After the first three conditions are met, talk to Selbineth to access the mode.
The same listing identifies “To Norristar, the Western Nation” as the earliest story point at which Hero Mode can be opened. If the option is unavailable, check the three prerequisites before assuming the save file is blocked. Because the wiki page has limited accessible detail, do not infer additional floors, rewards or difficulty modifiers beyond what the listing confirms (Hero Mode page).
A practical order for the prerequisites
Recruitment should be your long-term priority because the 80-character threshold and headquarters development are linked. Whenever a new town or route opens, check for recruits before advancing several story scenes. Use the headquarters’ facilities as soon as their construction options appear, and keep the Drafting Studio in your upgrade plan rather than leaving it until the end of the campaign. This reduces the chance that you reach the story milestone with a high character count but no Mysterious Room.

Recruitment tips, with spoiler control
Spoiler-light method
Recruitment is deliberately non-linear. The Epic Games Store beginner guide explains that potential allies can appear in places you have already visited later in the story, and that some require a particular character level or a completed quest. It also points to B’baba’s Divination Room as a way to obtain clues about potential allies (Epic Games beginner guide).
- Return after major story events. A town that had no recruit on your first visit may have one after a campaign development.
- Check level and quest conditions. If a character refuses to join, the missing requirement may be a party level, a completed side quest or a story flag rather than a bug.
- Ask B’baba for direction. Her Divination Room is intended to provide leads when you do not know which location to revisit.
- Record incomplete leads. Keep a note of a character’s name, location and stated requirement so you can return after the next major event.
Full-spoiler recruitment route
When your goal is a complete roster, use a guide arranged by story progression instead of an alphabetical list. The spoiler recruitment reference organizes entries by story subchapter and includes locations and recruitment steps (spoiler recruitment guide). That order matters: it lets you clear requirements as they become possible and avoids repeatedly scanning every town.
Expect the route to reveal where characters appear and what you must do for them. Keep it closed during a first playthrough if discovering recruits is part of the appeal. Open it when you are pursuing the 80-character Hero Mode requirement, trying to complete headquarters facilities that need particular recruits or cleaning up optional content before the finale.

How party slots and experience work
The beginner guide describes a party with front and rear combat ranks, one support slot and attendant slots for characters required by certain missions. Combat-role characters earn battle experience; support and attendant characters do not. Some “huge” characters consume two slots, so the number of portraits you can field is not always the number of available positions (Epic Games beginner guide).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse the roles deliberately
- Front and rear ranks: Put characters who need combat experience into these positions when you want them to level. Account for range and durability when deciding who belongs in front.
- Support: Treat the support slot as utility, not a levelling slot, because support characters do not receive battle XP according to the guide.
- Attendants: Some missions require a specific attendant. Bring that character when the mission calls for them, but do not expect attendant placement to level them through combat.
- Large characters: Check slot usage before finalizing the formation; a “huge” character can occupy two spaces and alter the balance of the entire party.
This system makes roster management part of progression. Rotate recruits through combat positions when you want to develop them, and keep a separate mission-ready arrangement for objectives that mandate an attendant or a particular ally.
Headquarters upgrades that accelerate progress
As the castle grows, new facilities and minigames become available. The beginner guide notes that some facilities require particular recruits, so recruitment is not only a way to enlarge the battle roster; it also expands what the headquarters can do (Epic Games beginner guide).

Prioritize the systems tied to recruits
A PS5 player guide recommends prioritizing Mission Guild and castle upgrades because they can open additional recruitment options. It also recommends checking item shops for rare stock and visiting locations before military battles. Those are contributor recommendations, not official statements that every platform or later version behaves identically, so use them as a planning routine rather than a guaranteed exploit (April 26, 2024 GameFAQs guide).
- After a headquarters upgrade becomes available, inspect the construction list before spending resources elsewhere.
- Review the Mission Guild and any newly listed castle projects for recruit-related opportunities.
- Visit item shops whenever you enter a town or after a story event; rare stock may be easy to miss if you only shop when supplies run out.
- Before a military battle, travel through accessible locations and check for new conversations or recruit markers.
Do not confuse “available” with “practical”
The same GameFAQs guide says Dr. Croque and Reid can be started earlier than they are practical to complete. In other words, an early quest start does not guarantee that your current party, resources or story position can finish it efficiently. If either objective stalls, continue the main progression, strengthen the relevant combat roster and return later rather than treating the delay as a failed quest.

Exploration before military battles
Military battles can create a strong feeling that the story must be pushed immediately. The contributor advice above recommends exploring first. Make a short sweep of previously visited areas, speak to headquarters contacts, check shops and consult B’baba before committing to the battle. This habit is especially valuable when you are pursuing Hero Mode, because missing one recruit opportunity can leave you short of the 80-character requirement when the story reaches “To Norristar, the Western Nation.”
Best Value
Exploration also protects against a common progression mistake: assuming a location is permanently exhausted after its first visit. The beginner guide explicitly says recruits can appear in earlier locations later, often with a level or quest condition. Revisit places after major scenes instead of relying only on the newest map marker.
Choosing a help resource
Different resources serve different kinds of players. A spoiler-heavy route is efficient for completion; a beginner guide is better for understanding systems without turning the campaign into a checklist; a printed reference suits readers who want maps and facility data away from a screen.

Platform and version cautions
The GameFAQs advice cited above is specifically for PS5 and dated April 26, 2024. The Hero Mode and recruitment pages are wiki references, while the beginner material comes from an Epic Games Store guide. Their conditions are useful for planning, but a patch, regional release or platform difference could change menu wording or timing. If a requirement appears not to trigger, confirm that your game is updated and re-check the exact story milestone, facility level, character count and quest state.
Do not treat an unverified cheat-code repository as authoritative simply because it uses the word “cheats.” For this game, the dependable path is to document recruits, revisit old locations, build the right headquarters facilities and use the correct party slots. Those actions address the real completion barriers without risking a corrupted save or an unsupported exploit.
A spoiler-aware completion plan
- First pass: Follow the story, use B’baba for hints and recruit characters whose requirements are immediately clear.
- After each major event: Revisit earlier towns, inspect shops and check the headquarters for new facility projects.
- Before military battles: Explore available locations and speak with potential recruits before starting the battle sequence.
- Midgame roster check: Compare your recruited total with the 80-character Hero Mode target and note unresolved quests.
- Headquarters check: Work toward Level 3 and reserve the Drafting Studio upgrade needed for the Mysterious Room.
- Completion pass: Use the story-ordered spoiler guide for remaining heroes, then return to Selbineth in the basement once all Hero Mode conditions are met.
That plan gives you the benefits people usually seek from “cheats”—fewer missed recruits, earlier access to optional systems and a clear route to Hero Mode—while staying within the game’s documented progression.
