El Paso, Elsewhere 2 now has its first playable demo. Strange Scaffold released the free Windows demo on Steam on October 15, 2026, ahead of Steam Next Fest. It puts returning protagonist James Savage in a supernatural swamp-or-forest fight against witches, gargoyles and gun-toting vampire mobsters.
When and where can you play the demo?
The demo launched on October 15, 2026 and is available at no cost on Steam for Windows. It is the first publicly playable slice of the sequel, giving players an early look at the faster combat, new weapons and stranger environments promised for the full release.

The demo is a PC experience for now. Strange Scaffold has announced the complete game for PC through Steam and Xbox Series X|S in 2027, but has not announced an exact launch date.
What is in the playable demo?
James Savage returns
The demo again follows James Savage, the protagonist of the original El Paso, Elsewhere. The preview places him in a supernatural wilderness setting rather than a conventional urban level, with enemies and encounters built around the series’ surreal horror-noir tone.

These enemies represent only the slice available in the demo. The announced sequel roster is considerably broader, including Frankenstein, goblin shamans, biblically accurate angels, possessed animatronics and additional vampire enemies.
New weapons shown
Players can use weapons returning from the first game alongside new additions. The demo specifically showcases an M16 and an automatic shotgun. The complete sequel is announced with 15 weapons in total, although the developers have not published a weapon-by-weapon breakdown.

Does the demo support a controller?
SteamDB records full controller support for the Windows demo. That makes a gamepad a supported input option rather than an improvised keyboard-and-mouse workaround. An Xbox Wireless Controller is a natural fit for players who want to use the same style of input on PC and later on Xbox Series X|S.
What the full sequel is planned to include
A larger, stranger campaign
Strange Scaffold and Frosty Pop describe a campaign of 20+ handcrafted levels. Planned locations include reality-defying nightclubs, multidimensional libraries and eerie suburbia, expanding the setting beyond a single grounded interpretation of El Paso.

Supernatural enemies and movement
The sequel is being presented as a more expansive supernatural action game, with vampiric movement abilities intended to make traversal and combat more mobile. Its enemies range from occult figures and monsters to supernaturalized machines and armed vampires.
Story, voice work and music
The narrative is described as a fully voiced neo-noir story about supernatural grief and recovery. The game will also feature an original hip-hop horror-rap album produced by RJ Lake, making the soundtrack part of the sequel’s identity rather than a background detail.
