Elden Ring version 1.16, released on 17 October 2024, fixed a bug that let temporary player-stat boosts persist after the game was closed and restarted. Bandai Namco Europe also listed unspecified additional bug fixes. The update covered PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, and was required for online play.
What did Elden Ring update 1.16 fix?
Bandai Namco Europe’s version 1.16 notes describe the main fix: “Fixed an issue where temporary boosts to player stats would remain even after closing and restarting the game.” The notes add “Several other bug fixes,” but do not identify them, so no further specific fixes can be attributed to this update from the published list.

Platforms, version numbers and online play
Version 1.16 was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. After updating, the title screen should show App Ver. 1.16 and Regulation Ver. 1.16. On PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the regulation file can be downloaded by logging in. Applying the update is required to play online.

Unstable frame rate on PS5
Bandai Namco suggests using Rebuild Database from the PS5’s Safe Mode. The notes say this may improve unstable frame rate.
Ray tracing enabled unexpectedly on PC
If performance is unexpectedly poor, check System > Graphics > Ray Tracing Quality from the title screen or the in-game menu. The publisher says ray tracing may be unintentionally enabled in some PC versions.

The publisher notes that this message can appear without cheating. Its suggested response is to verify the game files before restarting.
Unstable frame rate on PC
Third-party applications that control mouse behavior may cause unstable frame rate, according to the notes. Deactivating those applications may help.

Version 1.16 is a historical update, not the latest version listed in the official notes reviewed here. The subsequent updates have their own fixes and version labels:

As of 4 October 2026, version 1.17 is the latest version identified in these official notes. Its DLC support and changes belong to 1.17, not 1.16.
