There isn’t enough verified, current weapon data here to responsibly rank ten Elden Ring hammers. The available comparisons focus on Great Hammers, not the separate Hammer category, and do not establish the full set of stats, requirements, acquisition details, or patch-specific performance needed for a defensible top ten. This guide therefore narrows the question and explains what can be concluded: Great Stars and Envoy’s Long Horn are different sources’ top picks, but neither is a universal winner.
What this ranking covers—and what it cannot establish
Elden Ring has distinct Hammer and Great Hammer weapon categories. The available comparisons center on Great Hammers, so treating them as a ranking of every hammer would blur an important distinction. This article is limited to Great Hammers; it does not claim to rank ordinary Hammers.
A trustworthy ten-place ranking would require the same current-patch comparison for each weapon: stat requirements and scaling, damage profile and passives, weight, weapon skill, availability, and intended mode. Those details are not established consistently for the candidate weapons here. Naming ten and assigning places anyway would imply a level of verification the evidence does not support.
Why the published recommendations differ
A 2024 video ranking 16 Great Hammers explicitly focuses on PvE and puts Great Stars first. A separate GameSpot guide favors Envoy’s Long Horn within its category coverage. These are editorial judgments with different contexts, not proof that either weapon is best for every build or mode. The video is dated, and neither recommendation should be treated as an official or current universal ranking. See the PvE-focused ranking and GameSpot’s category guide.

Great Hammer candidates to compare
The sources identify the following as candidates, but do not provide a sufficiently verified, consistent basis for ranking them against one another:
- Great Stars
- Brick Hammer
- Envoy’s Long Horn
- Cranial Vessel Candlestand
- Beastclaw Greathammer
- Smithscript Greathammer
- Large Club
- Curved Great Club
- Great Mace
- Pickaxe
- Devourer’s Scepter
These names are a starting pool, not a finished top ten. The comparative sources use build-oriented labels such as lightest or hardest physical hit, but the underlying current item records and conditions are not established here. One comparison source, another candidate reference, and a build-oriented comparison surface several of these options.

How to choose a Great Hammer for your build
- Match the weapon to your attributes. Check both wielding requirements and scaling; a weapon’s reputation is not useful if its stat profile conflicts with your build.
- Consider the complete damage profile. Compare physical damage, any other damage type, and passive effects rather than relying on a single headline number.
- Account for weight. A heavier choice affects the equipment load budget available for armor and other gear.
- Choose a skill you will use. A weapon skill can give a weapon a distinct role, but its usefulness depends on your build and how you play.
- Separate PvE from PvP. A ranking explicitly labeled PvE does not establish performance in player combat.
- Check availability before planning around a weapon. The sources do not establish a complete current acquisition guide for this candidate pool.
What a defensible top ten still needs
Before placing these weapons in order, each candidate needs current item-level verification, including category, requirements, scaling, damage and passive effects, weight, skill, and acquisition. The comparison also needs a stated game version and mode. Without those checks, a numbered list would turn incomplete candidate mentions and differing editorial opinions into unsupported certainty.
