There is no single best talisman setup in Elden Ring: the right picks depend on your build, preferred attacks, and the damage you need to withstand. This guide covers 14 base-game choices, from early stamina and equip-load help to late-game defense, and explains what each does and how the cited guide reports obtaining it. Routes and quest details below are reported by Position Is Everything’s May 20, 2026 guide, not independently verified against current game data.
How to choose the right talismans
Match talismans to the job you need done. A stamina-heavy melee character may value recovery; a jump-attack build benefits from a different trigger than a bleed build; casters can choose between stronger spells and more efficient weapon skills. Defensive value also depends on whether the incoming threat is physical or elemental. A loadout that works for one character or encounter is not automatically best for another. GameSpot likewise notes that melee and magic or ranged characters may want different sets (GameSpot, April 13, 2022).
The 14 picks below are base-game recommendations. Shadow of the Erdtree adds talismans, so this is not a complete list for a character with the expansion. Locations and routes are attributed to the guide cited at the end of this section; check a current item map if a specific route or prerequisite is critical.
Early-game and general-purpose talismans
Green Turtle Talisman
Best for: stamina-intensive melee, shields, and dual-wielding. Reported route: find the imp-sealed cellar and chest at Summonwater Village in Limgrave. Its stamina-recovery focus makes it a practical early choice for characters who spend stamina on frequent attacks, blocks, or dodges.
Erdtree’s Favor
Best for: broad survivability and equip-load support. Reported route: enter Fringefolk Hero’s Grave with a Stonesword Key and follow the chariot route. This can help when you want more room for equipment without changing your preferred weapon or armor.
Radagon’s Soreseal
Best for: characters who can use extra Strength, Dexterity, Vigor, and Endurance, especially early in progression. Reported route: Fort Faroth in Caelid’s Dragonbarrow. The tradeoff is substantial: GameSpot reports that it grants five points in each of those four attributes while increasing damage taken by 15%. The extra attributes are not a free upgrade; weigh the added damage against your survivability and build needs (GameSpot).
Talismans for heavy equipment and melee attacks
Arsenal Charm
Best for: heavy weapons or armor when you want to stay at medium load. Reported route: receive it as a Nepheli Loux quest reward at Roundtable Hold, subject to progression. Because it is tied to NPC progress, do not assume it will be available simply by reaching the hub.
Great-Jar’s Arsenal
Best for: heavy equipment and tank-oriented setups. Reported route: defeat the three Great-Jar duelists in northern Caelid. Its use case overlaps with equipment-load support, but the guide lists it as a separate option for characters carrying especially heavy gear.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsClaw Talisman
Best for: jump-attack-focused melee. Reported route: search the rooftops of Stormveil Castle. Its attack focus is specific to jump attacks, so it is a better fit for a build that regularly uses that move than a general-purpose melee setup.
Shard of Alexander
Best for: weapon-skill damage. Reported route: complete Iron Fist Alexander’s questline and defeat him in Crumbling Farum Azula. This is a late-progression reward, so it is not an early substitute for a general melee talisman.
Rank #3
Talismans for successive attacks and bleed
Rotten Winged Sword Insignia
Best for: fast weapons and builds that land successive attacks. Reported route: assist Millicent against her sisters at Elphael. This reward is connected to a quest outcome, so plan before committing to a branch if you want a particular Millicent reward.
Millicent’s Prosthesis
Best for: Dexterity-oriented and repeated-hit builds. Reported route: a Millicent questline branch near its finale. The guide presents this and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia as alternate outcomes; do not assume the same quest completion grants both.
Lord of Blood’s Exultation
Best for: bleed builds that can trigger blood loss nearby. Reported route: defeat Esgar in Leyndell Catacombs. Its value is tied to the bleed condition, so it is not a general damage choice for weapons or spells that do not produce that effect.

Graven-Mass Talisman
Best for: sorcery damage. Reported route: solve the imp puzzle at Albinauric Rise in the Consecrated Snowfield. This strengthens a different part of a caster’s game than faster casting does: it is described as a sorcery-damage choice, not a casting-speed effect.
Flock’s Canvas Talisman
Best for: incantation damage. Reported route: a Millicent/Gowry questline reward. Because it depends on NPC progression, keep track of that quest if this is part of your intended build.
Carian Filigreed Crest
Best for: characters who rely on weapon skills and want to spend FP more efficiently. Reported route: buy it from Smithing Master Iji after the stated Blaidd dialogue progression. It addresses skill-use cost rather than raising sorcery damage directly.
Late-game physical defense
Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman
Best for: reducing physical damage, particularly in late-game encounters where physical attacks are the problem. Reported route: find the chest in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, reached from the Drainage Channel area. Do not treat it as universal protection: its described benefit is physical defense, not a general reduction to every damage type.
Quest and progression choices to plan ahead
- Millicent’s rewards: the reported routes for Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and Millicent’s Prosthesis depend on different outcomes near the quest’s end. Choose with the reward you want in mind.
- NPC-dependent items: Arsenal Charm, Flock’s Canvas Talisman, and Carian Filigreed Crest are tied to NPC quest or dialogue progress, rather than simply being picked up in an open area.
- Late-game access: Shard of Alexander and Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman require reaching late areas, while several other options are reported in Limgrave, Stormveil, or Caelid.
