The best Elden Ring talisman depends on what you are trying to improve: broad survivability, a weapon skill, a spell, stamina recovery, or a particular damage matchup. This ranked list weighs usefulness across builds, strength of effect, trade-offs, availability, and how easily a talisman can earn one of your limited slots. It is a practical ranking, not an official or universal tier list.
Talismans are passive equipment, and you can equip up to four after earning all Talisman Pouches. The base-game picks below are available without Shadow of the Erdtree; the final three require the expansion. For a full item list and location reference, see Push Square’s Elden Ring talisman guide.
How this ranking works
Higher-ranked choices tend to help many builds, deliver a dependable benefit, and impose little opportunity cost. Specialized talismans can still be better for a particular weapon, spell, boss, or status strategy; the ranking reflects general slot value, not a rule for every character. Effects and guide-reported figures can be patch-sensitive, so check the current in-game description when an exact number matters.
The base-game entries are followed by three expansion-only options. Their placement does not mean every player should replace a base-game talisman with them.

Best base-game talismans
1. Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman — physical damage defense
This is one of the strongest general defensive choices for characters who take physical hits, particularly in difficult fights where surviving one more blow matters more than increasing damage. It is less useful when the main danger is elemental damage or when you can reliably avoid attacks. Find it in a chest in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, making it a late-game pickup rather than an early build staple. Push Square lists its effect and location in its talisman locations guide.
2. Shard of Alexander — stronger weapon skills
Choose this if a meaningful share of your damage comes from weapon skills. Its focused offensive boost can outperform a broad stat talisman when your weapon’s skill is central to your plan. It does little for a setup built around ordinary attacks or spells, so it is not a default pick for every character. Obtaining it requires Alexander’s questline, which culminates in a late-game encounter; follow the quest rather than expecting to find it on a simple early detour.
3. Erdtree’s Favor — broad equipment benefits
Erdtree’s Favor improves maximum HP, stamina, and equipment load, giving it unusual flexibility across melee and hybrid builds. It is a sound choice when several small improvements matter and you do not need a more specialized damage or defense effect. Its stronger versions are tied to later or more difficult areas, so the base version is the practical target earlier. The item and its locations are listed by Push Square.
4. Green Turtle Talisman — faster stamina recovery
More stamina recovery helps with repeated attacks, blocking, dodging, and repositioning, making this a reliable quality-of-life option for stamina-hungry play. It is especially helpful if you regularly find yourself waiting for stamina to refill. Casters or builds that rarely spend stamina may get more from a damage-focused slot. It can be found in a locked underground room in Summonwater Village; access requires a Stonesword Key.

5. Great-Jar’s Arsenal — heavier gear without as much load pressure
This talisman raises maximum equipment load, which can let a character wear heavier armor or carry heavier weapons while maintaining a desired equip-load category. It is most valuable when load limits are actively constraining your setup; it contributes little if you are already comfortable with your gear. PCGamesN reported a 19% increase for Great-Jar’s Arsenal in its 2024 guide; treat that as a guide-reported figure, not a guaranteed current value. To obtain it, defeat the Great-Jar’s three summoned duelists in Dragonbarrow.
6. Ritual Shield Talisman — protection at full health
Ritual Shield reduces damage taken while your HP is full. That makes it useful for characters who can avoid damage or restore health between encounters, but the benefit drops as soon as you are hit. It suits exploration and careful play better than a strategy that expects to trade blows. It is found in Leyndell, Royal Capital, near the Colosseum.
7. Radagon’s Soreseal — substantial stat boosts with a real cost
Radagon’s Soreseal can help a lower-level character meet equipment or attribute requirements and gain several useful stats at once. The trade-off is increased damage taken, so the extra attributes are not free survivability. EldenWiki/EldenGuide’s 2026 guide reports +5 Vigor, Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity, alongside a 15% damage-taken penalty. Those figures are guide-reported and should be checked against the current in-game description. It is a poor fit if the penalty makes survivable encounters lethal, and its relative value often declines as a build matures. Find it in Fort Faroth in Caelid.
8. Gold Scarab — more runes from defeated enemies
Gold Scarab is an economy pick rather than a combat talisman: it increases the runes gained from defeated enemies, making it useful while farming or progressing through areas with many foes. It does not help in a fight, so switch it out when you need every slot for survival or damage. It is a reward for clearing the Abandoned Cave in Caelid, an area with Scarlet Rot hazards.

9. Godfrey Icon — charged spells and skills
Godfrey Icon rewards builds that charge eligible spells or skills. If charging is a regular part of your damage rotation, it can make that plan more effective; if you mostly cast or attack without charging, choose a broader option. It is obtained by defeating Godefroy the Grafted in the Golden Lineage Evergaol in Altus Plateau.
10. Assassin’s Crimson Dagger — healing from critical hits
This talisman restores HP after critical hits, so it can support a build that frequently staggers enemies or lands backstabs and other critical attacks. It is less dependable against foes that are difficult to stagger and has little value if critical hits are rare in your approach. Defeat the Black Knife Assassin in Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave to obtain it.
11. Lord of Blood’s Exultation — bleed-proc offense
For a build that reliably triggers blood loss, Lord of Blood’s Exultation is a focused offensive choice. Its value depends on the encounter and on actually causing the status effect; it is not a general damage increase for builds that do not inflict bleed. The EldenWiki/EldenGuide 2026 ranking highlights it for bleed-oriented play. It drops from Esgar, Priest of Blood, in Leyndell Catacombs.
12. Graven-Mass Talisman — sorcery damage
Graven-Mass is a straightforward option for sorcery-focused characters seeking stronger sorceries. Its specialized benefit makes it a sensible slot when spell damage is the build’s priority, but it offers little to a melee setup or an incantation-focused caster. Find it in a chest atop Albinauric Rise in the Consecrated Snowfield; reaching the chest involves solving the tower’s entrance puzzle.

These picks require the expansion. PCGamesN’s guide, updated August 21, 2024, reports that the DLC adds 39 talismans; this is a dated third-party guide count, not an independently verified official total.
13. Two Headed Turtle Talisman — stronger stamina recovery
This expansion talisman builds on the stamina-recovery role of Green Turtle, making it attractive to characters who chain attacks, blocks, and evasions. It is an upgrade to consider if stamina recovery is already a priority, not an automatic choice over more important defense or damage effects. Find it in a cave near the Rivermouth Cave area in the Gravesite Plain.
14. Golden Braid — holy damage protection
Golden Braid is a matchup choice for encounters where holy damage is a serious threat. It is less valuable against enemies whose attacks are mostly physical or another element, so swap it in for the relevant fight rather than treating it as a universal defense talisman. It is found at the Shaman Village in Scadu Altus.
15. Blessed Blue Dew Talisman — gradual FP restoration
Blessed Blue Dew gradually restores FP, which can reduce the need to pause for resource management during exploration. It is most useful to characters who spend FP steadily and less compelling when a limited combat slot would be better spent on immediate damage or defense. Find it at the Church of Benediction in the Gravesite Plain.

- Build around your main damage source: use Shard of Alexander for skill-heavy weapon play, Godfrey Icon for charged attacks, Graven-Mass for sorceries, or Lord of Blood’s Exultation when your build reliably triggers bleed.
- Address the problem you actually face: choose Dragoncrest Greatshield for physical pressure, Golden Braid for a holy-damage matchup, or Ritual Shield if you can keep HP full.
- Check whether a benefit changes your setup: equipment-load talismans matter when they let you use gear you otherwise could not carry at your target load category.
- Account for conditions and downsides: a full-health effect needs you to stay untouched; a critical-hit effect needs critical hits; Radagon’s Soreseal trades defense for attributes.
- Consider acquisition timing: some high-value choices are late-game or quest-dependent, while a convenient early pickup can be more useful than a stronger item you have not reached.
