There are 10 Evergaols in Elden Ring’s base game, but no required order for clearing them. A useful route is to tackle them as you explore each region, leave access-gated or difficult fights for later, and return when you are ready. Evergaols are standalone boss battles with rewards, and the official gameplay overview says you do not need to take on every challenge the first time you encounter it: Bandai Namco’s gameplay overview.
Recommended Evergaol order
This is a regional route, not an official sequence or a verified ranking by difficulty. It follows the game’s broad progression and the locations of the arenas; adjust it to your readiness, available access, and build. Bandai Namco’s overview suggests Limgrave, then Liurnia, then Caelid as a broad progression approach for players unsure where to go, while also emphasizing that challenges can wait.
- Limgrave: Explore Stormhill and the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. The latter also intersects with Blaidd’s questline.
- Weeping Peninsula: Take on Weeping Evergaol if you have a Stonesword Key.
- Liurnia: Visit Malefactor’s and Cuckoo’s Evergaols along the western lake shore. Return for Royal Grave after reaching the area beyond Caria Manor.
- Caelid: Clear Sellia Evergaol while exploring Dragonbarrow.
- Altus Plateau: Attempt Golden Lineage Evergaol when you have a Stonesword Key.
- Later areas and quest progress: Leave Lord Contender’s for the Mountaintops of the Giants, and Ringleader’s until Ranni’s questline opens the Moonlight Altar plateau.

- Stonesword Keys: The cited location guide marks Weeping Evergaol and Golden Lineage Evergaol as requiring a key.
- Caria Manor progress: The guide says to defeat Loretta in Caria Manor to access the surrounding area for Royal Grave Evergaol.
- Ranni’s questline: Progress in the quest opens access to the Moonlight Altar plateau, where Ringleader’s Evergaol is located.
- Spiritspring: Use one to reach the cliff where Malefactor’s Evergaol sits.
How to choose what to tackle next
Use your current location and access as the first filters. If you are already exploring a region, nearby Evergaols make a sensible detour; there is no evidence-based universal difficulty order for all 10 fights. Then consider whether the reported reward suits your build: the list includes a weapon, spells, talismans, armor, and spirit ashes. If a boss is stopping your progress, leave and return later rather than treating the encounter as a required gate. The route and reward records here concern the base game, not similarly named Evergaols or Gaols in Nightreign or Shadow of the Erdtree.
