Elon Musk was reportedly disconnected from Path of Exile 2 on December 13, 2024, after the game said he had made “too many button clicks,” according to his account of the incident. That was a temporary kick as he described it—not a confirmed ban. A separate controversy over other people playing his accounts emerged in January 2025; reporting does not establish that Grinding Gear Games banned him over it.
Why did Path of Exile 2 kick Elon Musk?
On December 13, 2024, Musk posted that he had been temporarily kicked for “too many button clicks.” He added, “Wasn’t even using a macro lol,” as reproduced by Windows Central. That explains what Musk said happened, not a server-side finding independently verified in the reporting. The available account does not establish the precise technical cause of the disconnect.

A temporary kick or disconnect is not the same claim as an account suspension. The December report does not confirm that GGG disciplined Musk or permanently restricted his account.
Was Elon Musk banned over account sharing?
No reviewed report confirms that GGG banned Musk. The later story concerned account boosting and shared play, not the December disconnect. On January 20, 2025, Forbes reported on direct messages Musk sent to streamer NikoWrex. Musk acknowledged that other people played his Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV accounts, and defended shared play in the context of competing in a leveling race. He wrote, “It’s impossible to beat players in Asia if you don’t.” This was a reported direct-message exchange, not a public post.

The distinction matters: reported account boosting is evidence about how an account was played; it does not show that the earlier kick was a ban, nor does it establish that GGG later took enforcement action.
What prompted the account-sharing controversy?
Viewers questioned Musk’s gameplay during a January 7, 2025 stream, with commentary focusing on apparent difficulty using mana, handling inventory, and identifying valuable loot. Windows Central covered the scrutiny, and The Washington Post reported on how those observations fed suspicions about who had played his high-level characters.
Those observations and leaderboard context were part of the public debate, but they are not by themselves proof of who controlled an account. The stronger evidence of sharing in the coverage is Musk’s reported January messages acknowledging that others played his accounts.

GGG’s Terms of Use say that a member may not transfer account registration or rights to another person or entity. The adjacent account-security clause says members must keep login information confidential and may not allow a third party to access the account without written consent. The terms also reserve GGG’s discretion to restrict or cancel account access in specified circumstances.
Those are the written rules; they do not, on their own, prove what action GGG took in Musk’s case. When asked about account sharing, game director Jonathan Rogers reportedly declined to comment, according to Millenium. No confirmed ban or kick over the later controversy appears in the reviewed coverage.
