There is no documented built-in cheat menu or button-code system in Elden Ring. The reliable shortcuts are in-game tactics: spend runes before a risky expedition, exploit stamina and positioning, summon a spirit when a rebirth monument allows it, bring human allies for a difficult encounter, and change weapons or magic when your current approach is failing. Bandai Namco’s official beginner material presents Elden Ring as an action RPG built around weapons, magic, stealth, exploration and allies rather than one mandatory build.
This guide explains those legitimate “cheats,” shows how to prepare for bosses without relying on unverified weakness charts, covers co-op and Colosseum rules, and gives the exact gate for Shadow of the Erdtree. Are there official Elden Ring cheats or codes?
No official source documents a cheat-code screen, invincibility code or developer-approved button sequence for the released game. Treat searches for “Elden Ring codes” as a request for shortcuts, not as proof that a code exists. The safest shortcuts preserve the game’s normal systems:
- Information: read enemy animations, identify when an attack ends and punish only during that opening.
- Resources: manage HP, FP, stamina, healing items and runes instead of spending every gauge at once.
- Preparation: explore for Sites of Grace, upgrade materials, equipment and alternate routes before forcing a boss attempt.
- Options: use stealth, ranged attacks, sorcery, incantations, a different weapon class or an available spirit ash when the current plan is a poor match.
- Allies: use the multiplayer system for a session with another player rather than expecting co-op to activate a cheat.
Unverified trainers, modified saves and item duplication services can change files or online behavior. Do not assume that a tool is safe, permitted or compatible with your platform or current patch simply because a video or download page claims it is.
Check your version and understand the HUD first
Patch 1.17 and online play
The latest located official base-game record is Elden Ring Patch Notes Version 1.17, published August 27, 2026. It covers PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, includes balance changes and bug fixes, and supports the Tarnished Pack downloadable content. Bandai Namco states: “This update is required for online play.” Check the title screen or platform update status before giving yourself build advice based on older damage or PvP discussions; balance-sensitive rankings can become stale after a patch.
HP, FP and stamina
The official starter guide, published October 11, 2021, explains the three core gauges. HP is your survivability, FP fuels skills and magic, and stamina pays for attacks, blocks, dodges and other exertion. Stamina replenishes over time and is not consumed outside combat, so pause between engagements rather than entering the next fight with an empty bar. The guide’s control descriptions were written for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One at that date; later editions or input layouts may label buttons differently.
Build your own “cheat” loop through exploration
Mark routes instead of wandering blindly
Open the map after discovering a Site of Grace and place markers for locked doors, dangerous camps, upgrade-material locations or paths you want to revisit. The starter guide describes map markers and discovered Sites of Grace as orientation tools. Birdseye telescopes let you inspect a region before committing to a route. They improve planning, but they do not guarantee that every hidden passage or item has been revealed.

Runes are both your currency and your experience resource. Before entering an area where retrieval would be difficult, level up or buy a needed item at a Site of Grace. If you are carrying more than you can afford to lose, bank the value rather than treating a risky boss run as a test of nerve. When an enemy repeatedly kills you before you can learn its pattern, leave, explore another route and return with more health, stamina, weapon improvement or a different damage option.
Adapt the character, not just the button timing
Elden Ring supports multiple solutions. A shield-and-counter approach, two-handed attacks, a fast weapon, charged heavy attacks, bows, sorceries, incantations and stealth all change the distance and timing of an encounter. Respec or equipment decisions should answer a specific problem: insufficient range, an overlong recovery animation, a stamina shortage or an enemy that punishes your usual damage window. There is no official universal “best build” list; the useful choice depends on the encounter, your attributes and the current patch.
How to summon a spirit ash
Spirit ashes are one of the game’s strongest legitimate aids, but they are deliberately restricted. Use this process when you want an AI ally:
- Assign the spirit ash you want to a usable item slot through the equipment menu.
- Enter an area in which the rebirth-monument indicator is visible. The official guide identifies a nearby rebirth monument as the requirement for summoning.
- Activate the assigned spirit item. If the indicator is absent, move away from the doorway or arena and look for the monument icon before trying again.
- Keep fighting while the spirit draws attention, then use the opening to heal, cast or land a heavy attack. Do not spend your entire stamina bar while the enemy is focused elsewhere; you still need an escape.
Only one spirit type can be active at a time, and spirits cannot be summoned in multiplayer. A failed summon is therefore usually a rules issue, not a missing code: check for the rebirth-monument indicator, confirm that another spirit is not already active, and make sure you are not in a multiplayer session.

A boss strategy that works without a weakness chart
Official material does not provide a complete, current weakness table for every boss. Use a repeatable observation process instead of trusting an unverified ranking.
1. Establish the encounter and your objective
Determine whether the fight blocks a required route, is optional, or is the gate for another activity. Note the nearest Site of Grace and whether a summon sign, spirit option or safe pre-fight space exists. For a first attempt, carry enough healing and leave room in your quick items for the tool you actually intend to use.
2. Watch one complete attack cycle
Spend an early attempt learning cues rather than forcing damage. Look for a shoulder turn before a swing, a weapon held overhead, a pause after a lunge or a change in arena position. Roll toward, away or sideways according to the attack’s reach; blocking can be safer for one hit but dangerous when your stamina is nearly empty. The punish window is the recovery period after the animation, not the moment the boss begins moving.
3. Trade stamina for information
Keep enough stamina for a second dodge or retreat. A single safe hit followed by repositioning is more valuable than a long combo that leaves you unable to escape the next attack. If a charged strike repeatedly misses because the boss moves, replace it with a shorter attack or a ranged option until the spacing is reliable.

When a strategy fails, change the weapon, damage type, armor load, spell range or summon—not all of them simultaneously. That makes the result legible. Explore for upgrades and alternate equipment before concluding that a boss is impossible. A different ash of war or a shield with a more comfortable stamina cost can matter more than a small attribute increase.
5. Handle phases as a new fight
At a phase transition, stop attacking and observe. New area effects, delayed swings or longer chains alter the old punish windows. Refill your camera awareness, identify the safest side of the arena and resume with shorter commitments until the new pattern is clear.
Solo and co-op choices
Solo players can use a spirit ash when the rebirth-monument conditions are met and can shape the fight around controlled aggro. In co-op, communicate who is holding attention and who is healing or casting; uncontrolled attacks from several angles can make a boss’s target changes harder to read. A human ally is a tactical option, not a replacement for learning the cues, because a session can end before the boss is defeated.
Co-op: the real multiplayer shortcut
Bandai Namco’s multiplayer guide describes session-based assistance. To play with a friend, use the multiplayer menu and a shared password so matching favors that password; summoning pools provide another way to find signs in an area. Confirm that everyone is on a compatible, updated version before troubleshooting matchmaking.

- The host cannot fast-travel until the guests leave.
- A session can end when the host or a guest dies, a participant dismisses the session, an internet interruption occurs, or the host’s group defeats the relevant boss or mini-boss.
- Co-op progress is session-based; each player should verify the state of their own world after returning.
These limits explain why co-op can feel slower than solo exploration. Set the password and summon near the intended encounter, finish the objective, then dismiss or reconnect before moving to a distant area.

The official Colosseum announcement from December 7, 2022 describes three PvP formats. It is dated rules guidance, so verify the current in-game presentation before planning a build around a detail that may have changed.

The announcement says United Combat and Combat Ordeal can include up to six players and lists restrictions on item use. Do not assume that a boss build, healing routine or weapon ranking transfers directly to these modes.
How to start Shadow of the Erdtree
The expansion requires the base game; the official product page states, “Shadow Of The Erdtree requires ELDEN RING base game to play.” The access route is specific:
- Own and install the base game and the expansion on the same platform family.
- Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood.
- Travel to the cocoon in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.
- Approach the cocoon to trigger the expansion entry interaction.
The expansion adds new weapons, equipment, skills, magic, enemies, boss encounters and plotlines. It also introduces Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash, which strengthen your character and spirit-related capabilities in the expansion’s progression context. Collecting those upgrades is part of preparation; do not judge an expansion boss solely by your base-game level or old damage assumptions.
Edition and platform decisions
The official Elden Ring product page lists a Shadow of the Erdtree Edition containing the base game and expansion. Contents and stock vary by region and platform, so verify the current listing before buying.

Fixes for common “cheat” and summon problems
- “My spirit will not summon.” Look for the rebirth-monument indicator, leave any multiplayer session, and confirm that no other spirit is active.
- “My friend’s sign is missing.” Confirm the same password, matching game versions and the correct area; summon signs and pools are session tools, not universal fast travel.
- “We lost Torrent and fast travel.” That is expected while the host has guests. End the session when you need to ride or travel.
- “Online play stopped after an update.” Install the current required patch for your platform; version 1.17’s notes explicitly require that update for online play.
- “The controls in a guide do not match.” Check your platform and button mapping. The 2021 starter guide’s control list reflects the systems it covered at publication, not necessarily every later input scheme.
- “An old boss build feels weak.” Recheck the current patch, then change one weapon, spell, attribute or talisman variable and retest the encounter’s punish windows.
A practical progression checklist
- Update the game before relying on online or balance-sensitive advice.
- Learn what HP, FP and stamina each pay for, and preserve stamina for escape.
- Activate Sites of Grace and place map markers for routes, upgrades and unfinished threats.
- Spend runes before a high-risk trip.
- Explore for equipment and upgrades instead of repeating an unwinnable attempt.
- Observe a boss for one full attack cycle before committing to damage.
- Use a spirit ash only where the rebirth-monument rules allow it.
- For co-op, set the password and summon near the objective, remembering the host’s movement restrictions.
- For the expansion, defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood and approach the cocoon in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.
- In the expansion, collect Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash as part of your power progression.
Those steps deliver the practical advantage most players mean by “cheats”: more information, more preparation and more control over when to commit to a fight, without relying on undocumented codes or unsafe third-party tools.
